Kritika Online and It's Dated Visuals...

Why do some eastern developers insist on hiring western publishing companies to facilitate their 10+ year old games?
If this game isn't super old then why does it have WoW-like caliber graphics?
Please tell me that there is a texture pack in the works that will make the game look more up to date?

Comments

  • One, that is how the games supposed to look it's a anime style type brawler game nothing wrong with that that's just how it's style is. Idk why you feel the need to complain. They didn't advertise it for their graphics did they? So what are you complaining about. That's the style of the game that's how it looks and honestly I prefer this and like the style.

Lol, I'm not talking about the art style. I'm referring to the lack of visual quality. The game looks like it was made in 2007. I was genuinely curious about the possibility of a texture pack being available.

And as far as me complaining lol. That's part of the reason why the forums are here for in the first place ;-)

one reason could be is so that those with potatoes can play the games instead of dropping 3k on a gaming rig every 2 or 3 years.

I dropped 1.2k on my rig to play my 5 year old game thank you very much. lol

But seriously these days that's not really and excuse there are plenty of great looking games that run well on most hardware. They just need proper optimization. I do see where @Bekrah is coming from though I mean look at AVA it's literally a dead 10+ year old game brought back to life by a new publisher.

Kritika isn't a republish though and it's graphics are an aesthetic choice it's called cell shading and if done right then it can really look beautiful just look at botw and borderlands (the new one) both of those games use this technique. Just look up cell shading so you can get an idea of what it is and if you want better graphics just use something like SweetFX for better post processing if you have the extra horsepower.

Kritika was being in development somewhere around 2009, around the time when their devs, Allm, started to neglect their flagship game called Lunia, to work on Kritika. At that time, Kritika graphics were some of the best, alongside other games like Rusty Hearts.

We are now in 2017, and finally Allm decided to ship their probably over 5 year old game (counting time on development) to the West.

IMO Kritika graphics arent even that bad, they just a bit dated for the current trend of MMOs. You wanna see really dated graphics? Play MU Online. Game is super old, almost as old as WoW, and people still play it despite having graphics dating 2007. You can say the same bout WoW. So many games blow it out of the water graphic wise, and yet people still play it. WoW still runs on Unreal 2 engine i believe.

a game can be 20 years old or just released, if it has great game play, storyline, and so on, it will stay strong. graphics is just an extra treat for a game. I never played wow due to subscription and all, but there are some men that have told me that the reason they still play is because its really fun and also they have years and lots of money invested into it. the same ones said they tried tera and got to level cap but didn't like it due to not enough content. they never went into detail. ive seen a little lets play on youtube on kritika, and I think I will stick with tera between the 2. a good game is a good game graphics or not. but looking at all the games that's on board to be released and all, it seems that that is the number 1 requirement lately.

The game is old and it's not meant to be visually amazing. Some KR/CH studios go with that sort of art direction intentionally. Most Asian games have "bad visuals" by NA standards as their decision.

Kritika doesn't have less content than Tera. It's about the same presently with side content being added later, and they seem to take pvp balance as something while BHS ignores pvp. Tera is only better visually and combat wise. Both are very grindy, as is the nature of KR games sadly, although Kritika may have it lessened as it seems ALLM is willing to make more NA specific changes, which again, BHS isn't doing for Tera. If ALLM makes enough changes just for NA, and the current changes are pretty big changes, it could potentially be just as good even with the worse combat. Also depends on how pvp will be after the pvp balance patch as I am waiting for that to pvp.

ALLM has to if they want to keep Kritika alive, considering in KR and SEA they are both almost dead with fewer players than NATera lol.

Their previous game wasn't really large either. Not sure how much they learned from all the years of developing Lunia. Kritika has a lot of elements from Lunia still.

Considering the short life Lunia had, about 3-4 years of experience in NA. Lunia didn't started to dramatically change until very late into its life. As a fellow Ex Lunia player, you should know that too, that the most awaited pswudo 3d mode didnt arrived until about a year and a half before it shut down. One thing they pretty much copy pasted from Lunia into Kritika is the arcade combo based combat. I never played Kritika before the beta in NA, but i sure damn hope they didn't broke the story line by skipping key elements ( I am still salty we never got to see if they ever revived Eir :( No, Dark Eir don't count as revival to me )

Lunia lasted about 5 years in NA. It was release in 2008, transferred to ALLM in 2012 then shut down December 31, 2013. That's a pretty lengthy time for a rather pay to win game for NA honestly.

Kritika to me is close to just an updated Lunia, with less pay to win (currently). The major changes are obviously no rebirthing, enchanting is different, and noticeably less pay to win as a base... breaking your gear when you got 1/3 of the way there, and downgrading unless you used cash shop materials felt bad, the stamina thing is another big difference.

I wish Kritika had an Asuka variant, I had been a dedicated Asuka player up until the game closed.
