Zerkers: Any tips on dealing with the mobility-based mechanics in dungeons?

With the increase over the past year of boss attacks being unblockable, and Zerkers having low mobility, I am having a harder and harder time with dungeons. I've been practicing my roll (I really wish it had less of a CD sometimes), and I try to use my speed boost when there's a particularly large amount of running around involved. But I still really struggle. I'm hoping to get some very specific pointers.

I wonder if this is why I don't see very many Berserkers around these days.

  • I can help you out with some basics to Zerk mobility but if you would like help with specific dungeons/bosses just let me know which ones and I'll be glad to help.

First off, glyphing Dash with cooldown is a must. The downtime on dash without the cooldown glyph is way too long to try and be mobile since our movement speed in combat is quite terrible.
Second, using leaping strike and lethal strike for mobility is extremely helpful. You can block cancel the leaping strike animation after you hit making it really fast to combo leaping -> lethal moving a pretty good distance in a short time.
Third, Overwhelm is extremely handy for moving towards bosses, but can be very unreliable trying to get away/move around them. The most efficient way to use Overwhelm to get away/go around bosses would be to Leaping Strike first, then Overwhelm to make sure you are far enough away that the auto-targeting system does not just throw you back at the boss.
Fourth, using your roll efficiently can be tough since it is your only reliable iframe and the cooldown on it is quite annoying. With my current glyph set I can unglyph Flatten cast speed, and glyph cooldown on the roll, in dungeons that I know it would be more useful. You can be very reckless with using your roll to dodge simple stuff and to use for mobility, because you can also use unbreakable as a panic iframe. But once Unbreakable is on cooldown, that's when you have to be more cautious.
Lastly, studying boss attacks and knowing every little thing the boss will do helps tremendously. Knowing what the boss will do next will let you start moving before the boss starts moving giving you a little more distance to either get away, or to start going around the boss while charging a skill when you know the boss will turn around!

Hope this helped, like I said it is pretty basic but I can help with specific dungeons if you need!

Hmmm... using leaping strike as a mobility skill. I could use it to get AWAY from the boss instead of TO the boss. But... I can't think of what lethal strike is.

Oh right, Overwhelm. That's a new one so I forgot about it. Can

Any tips on the DF laser? I can mostly dodge the circle, but the laser I have trouble with.

It still kinda sucks being a class where your weakness is mobility and so many bosses will kill you if you aren't mobile.

Mobility isn't a weakness of the class if you know how to play the class. For the lazer the best trick is to buy yourself time. Move towards the back wall and try to stay away long enough for your roll to come off cd. If you absolutely cant you have unbreakable once. I haven't had any issues with the lazer, even with the hm triple lazer.
  • Yea I mainly use Leaping Strike to get away from the boss, and Overwhelm to get to the boss. Lethal Strike is the charging skill that takes HP instead of MP, moves you a decent bit forward but you can not block cancel it's good to just Leaping -> Lethal.

For the laser, when it gets close iframe INTO it (the way it's coming from) and if you don't have an iframe, Overwhelm into it and you will only take 1 tic of damage.

I agree though, Zerk is definitely the hardest class, but it is fun!

It wasn't always this hard. :P I feel like they've been forgotten and ignored with all the speed mechanics. Worse still, I've been struggling to even do decent DPS since returning from my hiatus.
  • Yup, they have made Berserkers pretty garbage and have completely left them in the dust. Berserkers used to be the best DPS because they were the hardest to play! But now they are even harder to play and bad DPS :(

Heck I can't even do IOD bams on her. I've had to gear my mystic alt so she could do the IOD quests herself in order to gear my Zerker for dungeons she can barely do. Even when she was way less geared, my mystic could still solo the bams far easier than my zerker, and that holds true.

...good to know it's not just me sucking, and they actually do suck atm. I mean, I assume it's partially me too.

I don't know why they thought it was a good idea to make us take 10% more damage from bosses.

I should keybind all my movements to the same area. Though it wouldn't let me keybind my roll to what I WANT to put it on. ._. That thing has an awful CD apparently.

Honestly I don't think berserker mobility is bad at all. It just takes some practice.

You could have said zerker mobility was bad a few years ago, but that argument doesn't hold water now. There was a time leaping strike couldn't be block cancelled and we didn't have overwhelm or evasive roll.

They aren't even that bad DPS at all... the recent buffs are pretty noticeable. So please don't put the class down so hard and practice more, I promise you the class is better than you think. It requires more work than most other classes though and that's something a lot of people don't recognize or don't want to deal with. But that's precisely what people who really love berserker like about the class.

I definitely want to put in the work. I'm getting better with the mobility. I'm not trying to put zerkers down. I'm asking for tips to keep improving. Even if it's really hard nowadays, I will not abandon my class.

I don't even necessarily think the mobility is bad. I just think it might possibly be a bit low to deal with the vast amount of dodging one is expected to do on a class built for blocking over dodging. I assume it's possible. It's just hard, so that's why I'm asking for tips.

It's just frustrating to go on a long hiatus and come back to feeling like your class is being left in the dust.
