Does making millions simply by playing the market make you a market specialist? If so then i'm the overlord.
This is exactly what I think they are trying to achieve here, having players that actually play NA Tera help them figure out what is and is not an issue as well as constructive ways to implement feedback provided to them is what they truly need.
I can only hope that this works out as I see a large amount of potential if the right candidates are chosen.
Its a catch 22 though, you want to join to make sure our voices are heard but then get the Faustian bargain where you have to work for free cleaning up their forums.
That's what I expected it to be but somehow... If you read the announcement, there's a lot of "keep the forums healthy" and "report disruptive individuals" talk in it. Sounds a lot like turning the forums into a safespace is one of the major goals of the program. Then you go to the application form and notice that the last question is about how much time you can spend on the forums. Not in game, not discussing game issue but just hanging around the forums, presumably reporting "disruptive individuals". If they were looking for high level players to provide proper feedback(with possible test server access), forum moderation would not have been so important. Do you think that, say, Yosha has time to sit on the forum and move topics? Do you think there's a single top player who'd want to join the neighbourhood watch? When I told my friends application was open, they said I should apply. When I asked them why, they said "you already spend plenty of time on the forums". After reading the topic, they were under the impression that the most important thing was "time spent on forums". None of them thought they should apply because they "don't really like forums".
From the pass 3years+ experience on forum I think I could only think of Countertop be the one for it.
There also other that post patch/guides on forums yet might be not as patient as Countertop.
Then for those who like to voice their own opinion. It nice to seeing people voice their own opinion but patient and mature are what lacking on it. They been asking why EME don't take their opinions but then they would never think is similar as why they don't take people who view different in their posts. Even you try to start a discussion with them or stat some view points. They either reject or simple abuse you and turn it into an argument.
If we want a company to take our opinion we need to see both company and costumer side.
Right now I really only see Countertop the only one capable for it. Sure with patient, being mature and have common sense.
I wish after EME select those who match the require being in player council. Also let us players do a vote on it.
Vote before EME select... I do worry someone bring a bunch of friends vote for them...
A few things that the player council could make a difference with is with events that Enmasse are in control of, maybe offer up a handful of ideas and they can vote on them as to what would be the best etc
Yeah, from the OP, it really seems like this "player council" is just players working as forum janitors.
How active one is on the forums shouldn't be pertinent to the player council at all, if it's supposed to be a group of players that streamline feedback to EME.
I'd apply, but I've already got a job along with another "job" that keeps me off this forum frequently enough as is. I'm also not as well-rounded when it comes to TERA as I was at one point; I had an old friend PM me once during a break to ask if I'd died, oops. I will wish any and all selected the best of luck regardless. Hopefully, they'll be able to help make some lasting changes for us.
Since it's something most forum posters want to be in you see people are a lot less caustic to others, since being continually seen as an [filtered] or being moderated will bar you from it. It also makes a core of players that are rewarded for really liking the game and helping to make it better, something many enjoy in a game like this is the feeling that their opinion really matters (even if you don't get your way with your ideas, at least people are listening and passing them along)
People who feel included are far more likely to want to get behind a game and care if it does well or not. You also tend to see that people tend to want to make content for the game if they feel they are part of something, instead of just another player.. this includes making videos, guides, just being nice to new players and stuff like that. You'd be surprised how well it can and has been proven to work.
You're nitpicking and reading too much in to it.
Maybe. Can you point me to the part of OP that talks about the game itself, anything the Player Council can do in/with the game, anything about test servers? Because, looking at it, I see:
"make the community a happy, healthy, and well-organized place" - Unless you know of a way to keep the game organised, that's about the forums.
"We don't want Player Council members to be forum police" - Why would anyone mistake it for forum police if does, well, anything else? That's an odd opening sentence if you are not recruiting forum moderators.
What are the powers? Forum stuff. Nothing game-related, just basic, limited moderation. From my experience, you don't task the same group of people with all the things, you keep your moderators separate from your game guys because you realise people can only volunteer so much of their time a day. Oh, and there's a forum badge.
"you'll get to help shape the atmosphere of the TERA forums" - Not Tera, the game.
"That means all TERA player feedback can be processed more quickly." - All player feedback, not the Council's. Basically, sorting the mail so GMs don't have to go through all the trash.
Can you show me just ONE sentence that refers to the Player Council powers/duties that does NOT also refer to the forums and the forum community?
so it is as gameforge mod? i heard they are players and not gameforge employee
