VSHM as Mystic: Dying as I regress?

I've ran quite a few VSHMs on my mystic by now, and whenever world shifts to soul world, I inevitably have to jaunt to dodge the ring, then walk to the boss and regress within 8m of him. It appears that sometimes when I regress, I get instantly killed by the aoe underneath Lakan as my skill goes off. Sometimes I get teleported into the red area of death under him and die instantly, while sometimes I get insta-killed up to 1m away from that red area of death without being teleported into the red zone. I watched some videos of mystic clears and it doesn't look that much different than what I already do. Any advice or ideas on avoiding this problem?

    Stop holding W when you press regress.

    The same thing happens to me and I don't hold w while regressing I think it a glitch cause even when I'm far from the boss I still get teleported into the red ring and sometimes it don't happen sometimes it does its a very odd glitch cause it can happen 90% of the time even when your 4 m away since regress is about 8m

    Simply don't hold W while regressing.
    If you have to hold W while regressing, try running to his side instead of into him.
    It's an annoying bug, but nothing no one can do about it. So we all have to deal with it.

    Confirm that not holding w at the direction of the boss solved the issue.
