MT for pvp
celestal hill to see white chris spamming every 20 secondes focking elin
I used to play on TR and most of the top guilds a year ago are gone or transferred to MT for pvp or pve. On CH it is the opposite. Personally, I think CH is more stable than TR and friendlier.
In terms of economy, CH and MT have about the same prices, but on CH costumes sell for a bit more than in any other server. Probably due to the RP players, which value their appearance more than any other type of player. The one advantage of TR are lower prices on costumes and accessories on the trade broker.
Hello, my name is kamizuma and today I will be talking about the different servers & types of guilds and what it means for you! If you're reading this you are either a new player about to start TERA OR someone that is currently unsatisfied with their own server or guild.
Part 1: Why the right server matters (MUST READ if you are a new player or if you are not happy with your server).
Myth: All servers are created equal.
Reality: Every server is quite different from each other (in both mindset AND player progression/skill) so picking the right one for you is VERY important.
Background: There are 7 servers in this game (in order of perceived most populous, they are: Mount T, Tempest Reach (might actually be switched with AV), Ascension Valley (might actually be switched with TR), Celestial Hills, Highwatch, Lake of Tears, and Valley of Titans).
What each server is known for: MT (tryhard pvp & tryhard pve), TR (tryhard pve), AV (relaxing pve/relaxing pvp), CH (roleplaying/relaxing pve/relaxing pvp), HW (relaxing pvp/pve + a little bit of roleplay), LoT (attempted tryhard pvp), VoT (this server is legitly dead).
What it means for you: As a new player (or a currently unsatisfied player), the right server is extremely important to making sure you get the most out of the game. First, you must evaluate your goals in this game and what kind of atmosphere you want to play in when deciding a server. Do you have lots of time to devote to this game and you want to be the best of the best and well known for your skills at a certain class in either PvP or PvE? Are you a casual that just wants to progress through content at a slower and more relaxing pace? Are you a thirsty guy looking for girl gamers to prey upon? Are you a girl that likes being at the center of attention? Are you a person that plays a patch then quits then comes back again often but wants to get right back into the groove of things? Do you like open world pvp/would I be annoyed when people randomly kill me while I'm questing/leveling up? Do you like to grief other people and ruin their day? Do you want to relive high school and play in a cesspool of trivial drama that when you give it a second though you realize nobody [filtered] cares? All of these are questions you need to ask yourself when picking the right server. In the following paragraphs I will detail each and every server and the type of player that should play on it.
-MT (pvp server)
First and foremost, even though MT is labeled as a PvP server, it also has the strongest PvE playerbase out of any server as well. If you really want to be the best of the best in either pvp or pve (and you have the time to devote to doing it) then you really have no choice, you must be on MT. MT is well known for being the first to clear new dungeons, the first to put new hardmode dungeons on farm mode, the server that wins all pvp tournaments, and is thus the server with the best players of each class (in both PvP and PvE). The average skill level of a pvp player in MT is ages beyond the average skill level of a pvp player in any other server and the same is true for pve. This is because MT has the highest density of skilled players/skilled veteran players.
However, this also results in many downsides for new players. General pug groups (pick up groups in LFG tab) usually have higher requirements (both gear and skillwise) because there are so many skilled/geared players in MT it makes almost no sense for them to pick a new player that could potentially cause wipes/not does as much damage due to undergear than a more geared and experienced person. This results in making it VERY difficult for a new player (or a returning player with no friends) to gear up via normal gear progression route. HOWEVER, if you have very skilled/influential friends OR are in a very skilled guild (that you knew from the past or in real life) then it is ridiculously easy to get geared up quickly on MT because those connections will basically get you carried through any dungeon you want because that's just how skilled/geared good MT players are.
In terms of pvp, you also have no choice if you want to be the best. You need to be on MT because that's where the current "best" players are and everyone knows that rivalry promotes development of skill so by constantly playing with & against the best players you will slowly become one of them. Also if you want your pvp gear in a reasonable amount of time, you must also be on MT because it has the largest population it makes commonly used resources more plentiful and obtainable. If you are a top tier skilled player (or a develop into a skilled player quickly even though you are a new player), MT will be BY FAR the most rewarding server for you. No other server rewards skill as much as MT does because skilled players are quickly snatched up by top PvE & top PvP guilds and the connections you develop from being in those guilds make this game both a lot easier AND a lot more enjoyable. If you are a top tier skilled player on another server (one that many consider the best on the server), you definitely should consider switching because I can assure you, your own server is holding you back. I've spoken to a lot of extremely skilled players that transferred from other servers to MT (these players were all the TOP players of their own original servers) and they can all attest that switching to MT was definitely the right choice for them because they both started enjoying the game more AND got even better at the game because they got to consistently play with highly skilled players such as themselves more often.
In regards to new players: only join this server if you think you have lots of time (or money) to put into TERA and if you have a high threshold for trolls and people that grief and if you think you'll actually be good at this game because if you aren't skilled at your class you're going to have a hard time in MT. In regards to drama, yes there is definitely some drama. Lots of people/guilds have been around on this server for years and there are definitely long grudges held. Furthermore, people's opinions of people don't change that often. If you are known as a dungeon trap or a drama queen or a salty pvper then get ready for everyone to know that because word spreads very quickly and people hold very long bais against others. For example, if you caused a group to wipe for 2 hours on a dungeon, get ready to have their entire guild and possibly others know you as a trap player if that group was expecting you to be good.
In essence, MT would be a healthy server for CURRENT PLAYERS that are actually skilled, have an established (positive) reputation, have the resources (either in game or out of game) to consistently get top tier gear each and every patch, or have connections to those people at the top WHILE also having a thick skin to trolls/haters that bag on you for random [filtered]. MT would be a healthy server for NEW PLAYERS that want to experience end game pvp to the fullest, want to progress quickly through new content, and also players that have either the time or financial resources to bypass PUG groups and get straight into higher quality static runs for dungeons.
-TR (PvE server)
Even though TR is labeled as a PvE server, there is (or was) still a small group of dedicated, strong, and very skilled PvPer's on the server (although maybe many of them may have transferred off at the time of this post). However, if you're seeking end game PvP, it would be easier to find teams/groups to play with on MT than TR but if you're more into high end PvE with PvP on the side, then TR might be the server for you (keep in mind though that GvG's are almost non existent on TR). Since TR is another one of the oldest servers, there are many veterans and skilled players on TR as well and so the PvE situation is similar to MT (namely, PUGS are more elitist because again why should they take a new unexperienced player when there's plenty of more geared veterans around). After MT, I would have to say TR has the most skilled PvE players (and I say this because many of the most skilled players in TR already left TR to go to MT so that's why MT has more) and even then the skill gap isn't terribly high so PvE is definitely in a healthy state in TR.
In terms of gearing up for pvp, it's actually easier on TR than any other server due to the lack of focus on pvp whilst having a generally skilled and large population to inject many pvp materials into the server. However, the only downside is after you do fully gear up for pvp in TR, you'd be hard pressed to find many others to pvp alongside with you because the interest simply isn't there (compared to a pvp server). A lot of the top players on TR are well known in other servers so being at the top in TR will definitely get you connections in other servers if you do choose to leave TR one day. I would suggest TR as a server for CURRENT PLAYERS that are more interested in PvE than PvP (especially ones that only exclusively focus on PvE), players that love running a plethora of pve dungeons every day, players that want to be at the top of the pve scene.
I would suggest TR for NEW PLAYERS if they have the time or resources to invest into higher tier pve gear (due to elitist PUG groups restricting their runs), players that want to progress through end game content quickly, and players that want to be at the top in PvE. Keep in mind though that while MT has the "i'm better than you at pvp and pve so i'm better than you at life" mentality and trash talk, TR has the same but limited to pve so you also need a thick skin for people trash talking you in dungeon runs if you don't perform as expected. However, TR is definitely not as filled with stuck up players like MT so the general TR player is nicer than the general MT player.
-CH (roleplaying server)
Labeled as the only roleplaying server, if you really want to roleplay, you really have no choice but to be on CH since it's the only server where you can talk to a guy next to you in medieval english and he'll respond likewise. CH actually has a fairly decent population size and that reflects on its PvE state.
PvE in CH is not as bad as many would think (there are some extremely skilled pve players on CH that are more than capable of clearing new high end content quickly and efficiently) but there does exist a huge skill difference between those at the top and the average player. That's simply because the average player in CH doesn't have the drive like they do in MT or TR to constantly push through content so CH definitely has a more relaxed feel to it in terms of PvE. The large skill difference though coupled with a smaller population (than TR or MT) that isn't as focused on PvE does make PuG groups kinda of troublesome since elitism does exist to some extent on CH as well.
PvP on CH is also extremely limited due to many of the pvp guilds (and players) leaving CH when the free transfers were opened. There's probably only 2 or so guilds on CH that even pvp (as a guild) and outside of those guilds, there are very few players that are even interested in PvP. This makes it extremely hard to for players interested in pvp to get groups together unless you're in those guilds or if you know those very few players outside those guilds that do pvp. In terms of gear progression in CH, the progression is...very slow. There simply aren't the numbers of skilled players or a large enough population willing to farm dungeons to inject materials into the server so gearing up (unless you're in the top 1% of CH players in terms of skill/wealth) is very slow since all those at the top can literally just buy out all the materials (since there's so few of them). I would suggest CH as a healthy server for CURRENT PLAYERS that are interested in roleplaying, tired of the fast pace on either TR or MT (so they should transfer to CH), and players that are interested in clearing all current content but at a slower (and more relaxed/casual) pace.
I would suggest CH as a server for NEW PLAYERS that are interested in roleplaying, would like to complete pve content but at a slower pace than other servers, and more casual players since the environment isn't as "fast or competitive" as in other servers. Some other things to note: drama on CH is pretty big with apparently everyone knowing about everyone's stuff. Chat is often filled with extremely lewd topics (way more than other servers) and there are a LOT of guys that hit on girls in this server (way more than other servers) to the point where I honestly feel that female players (or even guy players playing a female in game character) are harassed. If you REALLY like attention though, CH is definitely the server for you because whether you're a global troll, a girl drama queen, or one of the less than 20 people that do PvP on the server, or one of the very few groups that can clear end game content, EVERYONE will know who you are.
However, even though some of the things I said can be seen as negatives about CH, I will say that CH has some extremely nice and extremely helpful players. The players on CH are a lot more helpful than any other server since it's a much more relaxed environment and everyone isn't out to look for the ways to maximize their own character. CH truly has a nicer player base than any other server and it's not uncommon for random players in CH to develop into really good friends after they did one random dungeon together since everyone is generally very friendly and most are without egos.
-AV (Pve server)
Another PvE server, AV also has its small PvP population (although nowhere as big or skilled as the one I mentioned in TR). Most of the highest skilled pvp players left AV a long time ago so it leaves a void that is slowly being filled by those trying to claim the top on AV (in terms of PvP) but if you're anywhere interested in PvP you should probably stay off AV.
In terms of population, AV has a very strong and large population and thus PvE is in a somewhat healthy state. Unfortunately, what AV has in numbers it definitely lacks in quality. With even less skilled PvE players than CH (and probably only 1 or 2 top end game skilled guilds in the whole server), you'll be hard pressed to find groups that can consistently clear the hardest end game dungeons (for instance, 3 months after SCHM came out, there were still only 2-3 groups on AV that could clear it consistently). However, it is a lot easier than any other server to find groups for the lower tier dungeons since it seems that that's where many of the players in AV are skillwise so PuG groups are very friendly and nonelistist at all.
In terms of gear progression, it's actually easiest on AV (than any other server) to get to 2nd BiS gear due to how non elitist the PuGs are but getting BiS on AV is almost impossible (unless you're in the top 1-2 guilds) due to how few skilled players there are to inject the needed items into the server. I would suggest AV for CURRENT PLAYERS that are not interested in pvp but are also casual, players that like taking it slow in terms of dungeon progression, and players that are interested in gearing up on their own time rather than having gear restrictions forced upon them.
I would suggest AV for NEW PLAYERS that want a nice and easy time assimilating into the beginner/middle tier end game dungeons, players that want to play with players of their own mentality/skill set, and players that want to enjoy the game and not feel stressed when they're playing. In general, AV has a very nice playerbase and most people are without egos so it's easy to find and talk to people and get along with them. If you're any kind of hardcore player though, I would suggest MT or TR (or even CH) rather than AV because you'll be disappointed / held back if you stay on AV.
-Highwatch (pve server)
The newest server, Highwatch actually has a larger population than both LoT and VoT combined. Composed of mostly players from other servers and extremely new players lured into the game, Highwatch is actually not in a good spot right now. Many players left HW the moment transfers reopened to other servers because they realized HW was not what they thought it'd be like. In essence, HW is composed mainly of players that either hated their old server, were hated by their old server or are just looking for a new start because why else would people willingly leave behind all their resources and friends and reputation they built up over the years on their past server. What this means is that you definitely do have some skilled players on HW (but definitely not the same level of skilled as those that remained on other servers) but that skilled playerbase is dwarfed by the increasingly larger playerbase of new steam players that just hit max level. What this means is that many dungeon runs are pretty trap on HW and it's almost impossible to get a decent dungeon run unless you are either one of those skilled players from other servers or you know one.
PvP exists on HW (way more so than on AV or CH) since many of the players that transferred to HW did have pvp inclinations on their old servers. However, since the population of HW is smaller than other servers and also resources haven't been building up on HW for the past years like other servers, it is actually very hard to gear up on HW compared to other servers because the resources there simply do not exist. In terms of drama, there is.. a lot. Basically all the drama causing players the were driven off their old servers all congregated in HW and created a cesspool of drama with people firing shots and bringing up references dug up from years ago from their old servers. Since the skilled player base is also extremely small on HW, word and drama spreads like wildfire within the small skilled community.
I would recommend HW for CURRENT PLAYERS that have no friends/guild on their own server and want to start anew, players that have a bad reputation on their own servers to the point where they can't enjoy the game, players that want to make a name for themselves but couldn't on their own server, and players that want to start on a "fresh" server with a good name. I would recommend HW for NEW PLAYERS that want to get an experience as close to a "new launch server" and NEW PLAYERS that want to play with a newer playerbase that is less established.
LoT & VoT (PvP servers)
Honestly... there's not that much to say about these two servers. The servers are literally dead and it's a ghosttown. If you're a serious player and haven't transferred off then I don't know what to say. The only good things about LoT and VoT are that it's easy to get achievements here and do nexus because the population is so small. I would suggest these servers to CURRENT PLAYERS that care more about playing with people than playing WITH people (ie you have friends) and players that like an emptier game and slower progression. I would NOT suggest these servers to new players because you're only going to hate the game when you realize you cannot even run end game things since there's nobody to do things with.
@Aefit I would just recommend that you base your decisions solely on your own experiences and interests.
E.g. Do you have any friends or connections with any pre-existing servers? Also keep in mind that open world pvp is practically dead at this point so you can PVP with equal amounts of opportunity on TR/CH as those on MT. The only thing you'll be missing out on is dedicated PVP guilds that are usually on MT.
As for PVE, honestly the PVE scene on both TR and CH are fine if you're into end game dungeons. You'll find what you want from both servers if that's what you're looking for.
MT is an option only if you are an elitist. Otherwise you're going to regret it.
