Good thing I wasn't in the middle of the dungeon, but come on...
EDIT: I'm getting into the game now, but it was still disturbing and not the first time it happened either. So please, look into it.

UPDATE: I ended up reinstalling and I can launch successfully. Not sure what was the source of the problem since I got rid of the few mods I had.
This has happened to me since the Steam launch last year in May. I believe it is related to upload speed. Whenever I'm on a faster connection I don't get the greyed out play button and login just fine. But as soon as I'm on my home connection, which is very slow DSL, it greys out. This also has been the case with the Tera launcher saving my login info. It does so on a fast connection, but doesn't when on my slow home connection. I have to enter my email address every time even though I check the box to save it.
I've tested it on multiple connection and multiple devices with the same result. I don't know what the speed threshold is, but my upload speed is only about 250 kbps for upload, and 1200 kpbs for download. If I have anything else mostly using all my bandwidth the launcher will usually just hang for a moment and close. So I have to stop anything downloading/uploading and wait til I'm logged in before resuming.
As has been suggested, trying over and over eventually works. In true Tera RNG fashion it's worked anywhere from 1 to 30+ times to get it to login. I then consider my steam connection succefully enchanted.
Or, you can disable your internet, try the launcher a few times and it will hang or close while trying to connect. Then after renabling your internet connection and launching through Steam it will ask you to login and then work. But that's kind of a pain, but eventually works for loging in through the Steam launcher.
Mostly, I just use the Tera launcher and enter my info every time. I alt-tab to my desktop to use Steam, but miss not having steam functions in game like screenshots and chat. I asked support a long time ago with no answer really. I've meant to submit another ticket but haven't yet. Hopefully someone can notice this here.
Out of curiousity, those of you using the Steam launcher and having it not login with the play button greyed out, what is your internet upload and download speed? On the Steam forums others have posted similar speeds to mine with the same issue.

Trying to log in results in --> Error -118 when loading url https://account.enmasse.com/launcher/1/signin
Yesterday i got the same error after the Maintance for over 2 hours.
Today everything was fine until now, got an DC ingame and now the launcher acts like yesterday, mostly cant load the login menu inside of the launcher and it just closing itself.
Also the forum is terrible slow: 2 of 4 times nothing is loading, 1 of 4 its terrible slow, 1 of 4 normal (loading in under 1 sec)
Also, nothing happens if i want to set a public name in accoutn settings.

Are you starting it directly, or through Steam? If it's through Steam, try navigating directly to your TERA install folder and launching it manually. It should be under your SteamLibrary folder under \steamapps\common\TERA\
If not that... try restarting it, or check the launcher.log file in the install folder to see what the problem is. (If you don't know how to read it, you can upload it to pastebin or someplace and post it.)
Check to see if your anti-virus has quarantined one of the TERA files, or if you have ever modified any files. The launcher.log might possibly contain some info as well.
I doubt it either of these because I never had consecutive fatal errors before.
My antivirus also does not quarantine anything that has tu deal with my games without alerting me first.
The launcherlog also has nothing.
Well, if you repaired the game and that didn't work, and it's crashing every time on startup, there are only so many causes that I know of:
1) The patch server is corrupt somehow so it's not repairing the game properly.
2) Something on your computer is interfering with the game (anti-virus is a likely culprit, but if not that then at minimum try a restart, but could need a selective startup to find the culprit)
3) There's some incompatibility with some game modification (but usually this doesn't start spontaneously).
4) Some other update was installed to something, and that's interfering. (Like new drivers or something.)
5) There's possibly something wrong with your hard drive (like a bad cluster).
In the end, if nothing helps, may need to contact support... but regrettably there's a long wait.
