Is healing easy/hard?

I ask this because in a dungeon run, a few dps were yelling at me and another healer for letting them die last boss in vhh. And that it should be easy to heal them, since a few of them both play healer classes.

Just want to know if healing truly is easy, or is it just hard for some people?

everything in this game gets (relatively) easy once you get the hang of it, but healers have a lower skill floor than most, imo. of course, everyone is different and one thing someone finds hard comes naturally to another person without practice.

you don't have to get discouraged by this - the newer you are to something, the more likely you are to make mistakes. if you like your role in the group as a healer, and the playstyle of that healer, just keep practicing and it'll get easier with time.

I think it depends on the party and players. Newer players are usually harder to heal, because they can die alot, or eat damage that they shouldn't be taking. Or they tunnel vision, ignoring their surroundings, they might be expecting heal spam at a time you can't, because you'll be busy ressing someone else. Tanks that can't be trusted to block can be tricky, because you'll pre-lockon and waste your focus/time on them, anticipating damage that they may or may not take.

Running with friends that you practice with, will be much easier. Because you'll know what they are capable of, how much damage they take. What their weaknesses are, etc.

I usually play with friends or guildies, so I find healing pretty easy. Just need to focus keeping yourself alive.Healing random players can be very demanding or challenging.
  • i wouldnt say healing is easy, often you wont be allowed to die once in a dungeon, or you'll risk a wipe... whether a dps can die 4 times and youll clear just fine.
The thing with healing is that you don't need top gear/top consummables/top rolls to be relevant and able to clear end game content, while as a DPS, people will take the strongest dps they can find, and you'll always be in competition so you'll have to perform well and always be up to date gear wise.
Some people enjoy that, cause having the best gear is very satisfying as a dps but.. you'll have to grind ! :)

It can be. The healing classes themselves are easy to learn. However, of course just knowing the class doesn't make it easy to be a healer. To be a decent player is not hard. To be a good player, it takes extra effort. It also depends on the dungeon and how well you know the mechanics. That goes for your party members as well. If the DPS are just facetanking every mechanic without knowing when to iframe, it becomes one hell of a job for healers. But hey, it's easy for some and not so much for others. In this case, VHH is not that hard to learn. Although, it does require some heavy heals like most dungeons.

Overall, I'd say that healing is still easier compared to dpsing or tanking. But to say healing is "easy" seems like an ambiguous statement. :3 As other people have previously stated, healing becomes easier overtime with more practice, so don't feel discouraged at all. Plus, your party members were probably not fully geared, which makes it more of a burden on healers in general.

doesn't really matter whether it's easy or hard
if something happens that you could've prevented, you try your best not to let it happen again or on a future run
if it was out of your hands and you know it, then [filtered] people's opinions. like the idiots blaming healers at argons for not cleansing manaya debuff. smh

Priest main for almost 3 years.

Healing fundamentally is not difficult. Depending on what healer you are playing, your priorities will be slightly different, but in general, the same. Prioritize debuff uptime (Triple Nemesis/Volley of Curses) and buff uptime (Energy Stars/Aura of the Merciless). The latter of which is easier for Mystics because it is an aura. Mystics also have a second debuff (Contagion) that they should prioritize using on every enrage to maximize their party's DPS, which is not something that Priests need to worry about.

Understand that a healer's job is to help their party do more damage, because they are not contributing much damage themselves. Higher debuff/buff uptimes means more party damage. As well, protecting your party by using defensive skills (Kaia's Shield for Priests) and preemptive healing skills (Restorative Burst/Arun's Vitae) helps keep them alive. Obviously, your primary healing skills (Focus Heal/Titanic Favor) and (Healing Immersion/Boomarang Pulse) are for when your party takes damage. Often your defensive skills are going to be for when you know the boss is going to hit your party hard (in which case a Kaia's Shield will protect your party from almost 40k of damage, and Arun's Vitae will allow your party members to heal quickly without relying on you directly).

Your main concern is going to be staying alive. It is much more punishing for a healer to die than for a DPS or a Tank to die. Healers can use their self-res abilities (Grace of Resurrection/Vow of Rebirth) to keep them in the fight after dying, but they are limited by decent cooldowns whereas your Resurrect skill has a very short cooldown when glyphed. If you're having trouble playing your class I'd recommend reading the guide I linked at the beginning of this post as well as Ming's Priest Guide if you are a Priest or Zephya's Mystic Guide if you are a Mystic.

if you want to be blamed for everything, then roll with a healer lol.

healing difficulty is defined by the party you're running with

that's it. don't let anyone tell you different.
could be the easiest thing you've ever done or the most exhausting, painful thing you've ever done.

Healing is fundamentally easy; however, the amount of effort required depends almost entirely on the rest of your party. It's an easy but menial and sometimes draining job. Very few situations will place great pressure on healers, but these situations become more difficult to manage if the rest of your party is not up to the task: failing shield phases, stacking DoTs on themselves, dying constantly, etc.

Given the general lack of difficulty around healing in TERA, healers are entrusted with many key boss mechanics - for some of these, failing them once is enough to guarantee a wipe. The causes of failure range from simple lack of coordination to just a bit of lag.

Endgame situations typically demand that a healer stays alive for the entire fight with just a single iframe, with usually only a single chance for self resurrection available on high cooldown - after using that you'd need a scroll from another player. If your latency isn't at least decent I would be hesitant to stack any attack speed, especially on a mystic.

Healing is not easy in VHH, whoever told you that was just upset cause he died.
I'm talking about last boss specifically tho, people take hits like crazy there and if someone dies because he's in the fire, it's most likely his fault cause he didn't iframe. Same for the third slam. Also in/out.

Healing itself(not necessarily the role of a healer) is just about the easiest thing in this game. It's literally pressing the same 2-3 buttons repeatedly. What can make it hard, especially for new healers, is when you panic. You see the hp of the party going down rapidly and feel like you can't keep up with it. Try to stay calm, do your best and learn from your mistakes. When you have a 2nd healer, it's important to be able to work well together and split duties properly in intense situations instead of both of you trying to do the same thing. When it goes down that road, as a priest, you want to prioritise cleansing and ressing while leaving the dmg support and healing mostly to the mystic.

Next time if someone tells you that it should be easy because they play healers, tell them to shut it and let them come heal if they want to complain.

Given healing is generally easy, not playstyle of each player is what influences it, you wont save anyone froma 1 shot mechanic, if yuo pc has bad fps, your healing will be much harder, same goes for higher ping. so just do your job as good as you can, if they wanna cry its up to them.
99% of player populations in games cry about literally everything
  • Thanks for all the suggestions and feedback, and @Anotsu they were mostly screaming at me and the mystic to heal them after they got hit by the third boom attack, and kept standing in the fire.

To make a long story short: healing is fundamentally easy, and that's in regard to the act of healing itself (debuffing up time and dpsing as healer, are separate subjects). In a nutshell, it all comes down to how much you understand how to utilize the class, as well as familiarizing yourself with the dungeons you intend to do. If you get good in that, most dungeons should be a walk in the park.

That being said, healing can also be thought of as being subjective. Harder dungeons, require a more intense gameplay, and sometimes staying alive can become a challenge on itself (in addition to preforming other healer functionalities, which should be applied during dungeons). Not to mention challenges which are beyond you're control. Challenges such as poor party compositions and god awful players. You could be the best healer in NA, and still wipe because the party members where not well quietened enough with the dungeon/raid you are doing with them. Sometimes you could even wipe because of lack of DPS, which is straight up beyond you're control (even as a DPS mystic).
