Returning to the game/restarting

I haven't played Tera in ages. Maybe for a year? Or two? I really can't remember. I'm thinking of possibly returning to the game with my sister.
If I do return, I'm planning to start from scratch. I don't remember anything about the game. I also didn't get really far. I have a level 41 Elin slayer on Ascension Valley. Then I have a level 1 and 12 on Fey Forest and I have no idea why I made them.
Should I delete my old characters or should I just keep them there for now?
Also, how long would it take to reach cap?
Any general newbie advice?

  • I suggest to just keep them. Doesn't hurt to keep them, but if you delete them all progress will be loss.

It takes about 10 hours to reach level cap if you can find parties to dungeon with. I play on the battleground kuma to get a 100% exp boost (1-day). Afterwards I do dungeons and kill BAMs until lvl 65. At 60 you can start doing the storyline quest as they give more exp, better equips than what you can get from vanguard quests, and gold for skills while you wait for dungeons.

Also I suggest you use a buddycode before level 9 or something as you get bonus loot for leveling up.

How much longer would it take if I decided to do all the quests? Is it advised that I don't?

And do exp boosts stack? Cause if I'm reading it correctly, the BuddyUp code apparently gives a "30-day bonus XP scroll (100%)" too and I might be able to get the New Player DLC on Steam which has a "100% XP Boost (7-Day)" (idk if it will work though).

    Should I remake my characters?
Honestly if you're completely new, I'd suggest starting over. Since you don't remember any of the game, starting from a Lv. 41 character might be a detriment as you'll possibly be overwhelmed with skills. It won't take that long to get back to 41 again.

How long does it take to level?
If you constantly spam dungeons as soon as you're able to and use IMS a lot (especially if you get fast queues/are playing a healer or tank) then you should be able to reach 65 in a few days. If you space it out and play casually, it should take you about a week.

    Newbie Advice
Some general newbie advice would be to take the game at your own pace - do not rush to level cap and take the time to actually learn the combat and really learn the ins and outs of your class. You won't believe the amount people I've seen at 65 that still don't know basic things about their class and still don't know how to dodge.
If possible, join a guild ASAP - it'll make the leveling experience much more enjoyable as you'll have people to chat and hang out with while leveling.
Also if you can afford it, one month of elite will do wonders. Having a 280 speed flying mount is a huge help, and you have a permanent 100% leveling boost that applies to all characters.
I'd also suggest looking over some class guides once you find a class that really clicks - you don't have to follow the guide religiously. You can just skim it over and find some good points that you may not have already know. Be sure to especially look over any glyph builds!

How much longer would leveling take if I decided to do all the quests?
Assuming you mean zone quests and main quests (orange/red and yellow quests) - zone quests give very little experience now in comparison, and main story quests give an okay amount but if you decided to do all of your quests as you go, it would definitely extend your leveling experience by a few days since there are many quests. If you have a mount (such as the elite flying mount or the temp mount they give for the leveling event) then this will cut down on your travel time significantly.

How long do dungeon queues take?
This depends on what class you're playing. If you're a tank, it's almost instantaneous. If you're a healer, it can take up to a few minutes. If you're a DPS it can take anywhere from 5-30 minutes.

Do Buddy-Up and other EXP boosts stack?
Yes, they definitely do. With both boosts you can easily get a character to 65 in a few days if you play casually. Plus there's also a leveling event going on that gives you even more of an XP boost.

    Additional Stuff - Server Selection
You didn't ask about this, but I noticed that you made a character on AV and FF. Keep in mind that FF and MT are PvP at 65 servers while AV, TR and CH are strictly PvE servers (no OW PvP at all).

I think I've gotten all your questions, but if I missed one, please let me know.
    Hope this helps.

Would you recommend that I skip zone quests?
Has there been any major class changes? I'm planning to make a Ninja, but the guides I'm finding are from a year ago.

For whether or not you should skip zone quests, that's entirely up to you. If you want to hit max level ASAP then I'd definitely suggest skipping them as they give little to no XP and aren't really worth your time. However, if you're not in a huge rush and would like to learn about Tera's lore and the general story of what's going on in said area, then the zone quests can be an interesting break from the dungeon grind.

As for major class changes, this is a tricky question to answer since you left 1-2 years ago, so I'll list any changes I can think of regarding each class (please take these with a grain of salt). For the most part, essentialmana has some good starting guides if you're completely lost on what to do for your class.

Warrior: Warriors got an upgrade several months. Edge is no longer shared and is instead generated per warrior making it easier to get off Scythe instead of other people stealing your edge. The attack speed debuff that was applied to the boss is now a party-wide (I think?) attack speed buff. I don't think this has messed up the warrior's rotation too much, if you're looking for any guides on this class, you'll probably want some that include the warrior's revamp (so anything made in 2016/2017)

Lancer: Wallop gained frontal block, adrenaline rush is now a party-wide buff, guardian shout now gives a party-wide power buff as well as an endurance buff. Backstep no longer has a cooldown and instead uses up resolve (resource needed to block), so that needs to be taken into consideration when managing your resolve. Nothing really new added, so most guides that you'll find (that include the new Lv. 65 skills) still apply.

Brawler: Growing Fury no longer has a cooldown. Most guides will still be applicable since Brawler hasn't changed too much since its release.

Priest: I don't think too much has changed. Priest has gotten some minor buffs, but nothing too significant. Any priest guides you find that were made several months ago should still be good.

Mystic: You can now throw motes up to 15m away instead of always dropping them at your feet. The mystic's very brief power buff has been included into one of its auras to compensate for the priest's power buff. Some auras have been merged to make things less cluttered.

Slayer: Not much has changed. EME & BHS seem to have forgotten about slayer updates so most guides you find should still be relevant.

Zerker: Zerkers now have the option to tank, though if you only plan on DPSing you won't find many of their tank skills useful. They've also gotten some minor passives that help them crit more on their important skills. Some buff skils have been merged into a singular buff skill (such as flurry of blows and one of their power skills, I think?) At their core, though, they're still roughly the same - most guides will still apply.

Archer: Archers got a "revamp" several months ago that added some new skills, but not much has changed for their core rotations. Any guide made after the archer revamp (iirc anything from early 2016 onwards) should still apply.

Sorc: Also given a revamp several months ago. If you're looking for a guide for this class, make sure that it includes the new skills (Fireblast > Meteor Shower, Magma Bomb > Lightning Strike, Ice Needle > Ice Ball/Orb/etc).

Reaper: Like slayer, reaper hasn't been touched up too much. Any guides made a few months ago will still apply.

Gunner: Just got their DPS buffed in the most recent patch. Aside from that, nothing of significance has changed - most guides still apply.

Ninja: Little has changed, though they did just change how Focus (Lv. 65 buff/stance) works. You now only lose stacks of Focus if you are KD'd instead of taking damage. Older guides may still be accurate.

Valk: The most recent class. Plays a lot like Slayer, but hits way harder. It's in the process of being gradually nerfed. Any guides that you find on Valk will most definitely still apply.

Also note that there are to be a few expected patches that will change how some classes' skills work. IIRC it's mostly small stuff like reaper's attack speed buff being made into a passive.

Again, take what I've said with a grain of salt. I'm not especially knowledgeable on warrior and slayer stuff, and I've taken month-long breaks here and there while other classes were being revamped.
    Hope this helps.

id do your starters quests to velika
then if you don't want to do dungeons you can just keep doing your daily vanguards to lvl up fast to
then from 60 to 65 start the 60 onwards storyline quests and vanguards
then go back and do the rest of your storyline quests if you want
that is if your in a rush to cap and your not wanting to run dungeons
