Never seen so many people leave this server so fast, lol. Logged in for a moment to do broker things and had people whispering me farewells in just that brief period of time alone. :'(
  • Fantastic, thank you!

So where they leaving from ?

My server in particular is CH. I'll admit that my experience is just a single one and might not represent the whole, because I'm sure someone's gonna come in and say that they don't know anyone who left today, but from my perspective it looked like a lot of people left today, or were happy this issue was resolved so they could start turning their gold into assets and prepare to leave in the future.

Don't get me wrong, good on EME for getting on BHS's case to fix this issue. Their approach while contacting BHS was actually really transparent and well done in my opinion. This post isn't about that. I just ... detest server transfers in general, even in other games, and in tera especially because I believe they kill smaller worlds. Now I'll acknowledge that some people just server transfer to play with their friends, but more often than not they're used because rather than attempt to accomplish things in one's own server where the players are not as geared or as skilled, people simply move to a thriving world and accomplish things there where players have their gear already or are well versed in the content. I don't like it. I don't like seeing people leave in droves every time HH or DSU or some other harder-than-normal thing gets released. I don't like helping guildmates gear up only for them to silently move to MT because someone promised them a spot in an HH raid. I don't like when my friends list evaporates because the skilled friends I've made who remarkably haven't quit yet are hopping on the MT lifeboat. I don't like when my guildmates get fed up with the dead LFG and the dead broker and joke about moving to MT with a hint of seriousness behind the levity. I don't like that this problem of bleeding players is one that builds upon itself and snowballs and compounds and only gets worse with time, and I don't like that rather than cut this problem off at the head, BHS/EME have continued to allow it so they can make money at the community's expense. This isn't meant to judge anyone who uses them; I've used them myself to buy stuff that seemed like it'd never show up on CH's dead marketplace (and I felt gross while doing it). I just can't stand the actual idea behind the product. Any sense of community, of worldbuilding and server-pride, goes right out the window when people are allowed to just leave and take all their [filtered] with them for like 20 bucks. ./2cents ./opinions etc etc

Personal opinions regarding the item itself aside, thanks for fixing this longstanding issue.

@voidy I tend to agree I'm on FF with 13 toons and I wont tf them not that that was the server I chose but ended up on whilst I was unfortunately unable to be here dur in a merge
how ever I'm allowed 8 per server (I think its 8 or is it 10) and dur in the lvl event ive now got two on CH so youll have to put up with me even tho others are leaving

I've been thinking that EME should consider having incentives on the lesser-populated worlds to help reduce people's tendency to "clump" on the most popular server (which, indeed, is a big factor in other MMOs too, so not unique to TERA at all). It's better for EME too if everyone spreads out, as they prefer to spread out the server load. I've also thought that, perhaps, they could have variable pricing for server transfers so that they can have "preferred rates" for some servers and not others.

The whole thing is a tricky issue. Ideally, there would be no server transfers and people would bloom where they're planted. But if you don't offer such an option, dissatisfied customers may just up and leave the game completely. The reason they charge for server transfers is as a disincentive -- it makes people think twice before moving, and also helps protect server economies to some degree. It isn't intended to be a "profit center" (though you could say it's sort of like a "sin tax").

Other than incentives like I mentioned above, I'm not really sure what else EME/BHS/etc. can do to cut it off at the head. I suppose you could say "merge all the servers!" (as some have) but that brings a lot of its own problems, and also really messes with any sense of community/worldbuilding/identity (at least for a long while until things settle).

Edit: Oh, well, actually the one thing that would really help would be to develop cross-server LFG. If they could do that, it would eliminate by far the largest reason this clumping occurs -- which stems from the NA community's dislike of using IMS for end-game content. I imagine this is something BHS probably under-appreciates due to cultural differences. I suppose cross-border broker would be another consideration... but that one has its share of downsides too.

I think, they make 3 major servers, and then disable Server transfer, we had server transfer because we had so many servers back then, if we reach 3 servers we don't need Xfer and each server can stay strong.

    Just my thought doe.

It makes me sad, the new raffle and system reward doesn't work for server Xfer, I don't get to buy EMP much, but I will for transfer xfer :D
  • Well I for one am greatful for server transfers. I started on MT and joined a guild that pvp'ed way too much for my taste. I don't like pvp. So I looked at the other ones and found a role play server and was excited for that! I made a few characters there and joined a rp guild and had a blast. So I transferred my main there as well.
