I think this special event happened twice so far. one this morning early, and another yesterday.

It has. The first time I think many people thought it was just bugged. People still managed to get over 200 boxes.

This is fault of the event manager
Event should have gone by this
    • X monters argon boss will spawn with an announcement aside with argon soldiers
    • Soldier have a chance of droping box yes thats ok but boss should be more rewarding like 10 - 20 boxes each boss
    • 2 mins break until next boss and repeat
IDK why spacecats didnt follow minea/tonka spawning boss method of giving more rewards per boss

"maybe cause it requires an event manager being online aside with the event and not just a script scheduled to run at xx:xx time"
  • 3 weeks for the event:
    • * 2 x daily BAMs that net 12 boxes, 504 for the entire event if you have the time and don't miss a single BAM
    • * 2 x daily mobs that net ??? boxes, this got buffed part way through, if this drops more boxes than the BAMs, why even have the BAMs?
    • * 1 x weekly BAM that nets 3 boxes, barely worth waiting for it
    • * random spawns that net a small amount of boxes?
    • * 1 random spawn that net 400-600 boxes

If you were around for that special spawn, you got what someone who played the scheduled events for 3 weeks will get. Add to that, the random start times in a 2 hour window that prevent people from doing much else but wait. What @Kamizuma says is true as well -- events are frequently more profitable than playing the game normally. EME needs to ask themselves what they want to accomplish with these events because what is actually happening with many of them isn't in EME's or the player base's best interests.

I remember Kami talking in another post about the events many months ago. You can get so much in events..
  • Meanwhile I waste my time on Kelsaik and get no mail despite standing at its feet when it dies (after DPSing it for idk how long).

    GG..

I am fine if there are special events, but they shouldn't be devaluing the items by that much.

We are looking at 15-20x the amount of boxes you can get in one day.

I managed to get into both events luckily but I think it is better that adhoc shouldn't give items at this rate.
  • these 1000 boxes i got from the random events got me 2 1.5x dragons ty eme so much :D:3
  • "Event" Broken AF!
  • I am extremely sad I've actually attended the surprise butts*x event but did not get 500x boxes XD
  • How are they getting hundreds of boxes?? What is dropping them?

A ton of mobs are spawned at once. Every time one dies, they're treated like a BAM (1 Argon Box to everyone in the raid).

It also might've gotten a slight nerf afterwards(or I'm being consistently unlucky all of a sudden). First few days after the buff: average of 50 boxes. Last few days: Average of 30 boxes.

Issues with the mob part of the event:
    1. Spawns happen in 2 waves, 10 min apart. If you are late, you are out of luck as most maps will be licked clean in the first 30 min.
    2. The mobs require an insane amount of hits to kill, making it impractical to kill in anything but large groups with anything but a multihit class(I'd wager a brawler can farm 2-3 times as many boxes as any other class due to their ability to group and control mobs while also having a rather high hpm rate).
    3. The pods or whatever those things are drop...simple salts...why exactly? Yes, I know, "they are made of noctenium and simple salts" but, as far as I can tell, salts have no purpose at all making them a stupid and disappointing drop.
    4. The mobs linger for hours after the event ends. As it's, again, impractical and a complete waste of time to kill single mobs, they'll hang around levelling mobs and just generally get in the way as they are perfectly capable of getting a lowbie char killed. Plus, you don't want those things running after you and keep you in combat and you definitely don't wanna be sitting there on your level 60ish char for 5 minutes trying to get rid of it.

That special unannounced event had a negative effect on the traditional event as well. No one wanted to do it. After getting hundreds of boxes for no work at all, most people looked at shandra manaya in an imposing corner and said "no thanks" and left. I saw LFGs up for Manaya groups for a really long time after the other BAMs had all been killed, because no one wanted to waste their time dying to invisible attacks and lag and manaya in general in such a cramped zone for one (1) box worth like 650 gold now that the earlier event flooded the market with them. That's to say nothing of how it devalued the items inside the boxes, but Kami's already gone into that.

What kills me is I was awake during the surprise event, but I was killing time offline while waiting for the 10 am event to start. I really dislike unplanned events for this reason, especially since your unplanned events tend to be far more lucrative than your scheduled ones which is so [filtered] backwards. Putting your events on a schedule gives people reason to log in and do the events. It lets people organize beforehand. For people with busier schedules, it helps them plan. Things like rally, which occur during a general window, are so bad for the game because once 2 pm PST hits nobody wants to dungeon or do anything at all because they're waiting for the unspecified rally time. Same with the argon event having a "window" and then starting at a random time. During that "window," no one queues for anything; I sit in queue on my tank for literally 20+ minutes during these times before giving up, because everyone's in raids waiting for the event. FYI making a raid and then waiting around for 40 minutes hoping the event starts soon isn't fun. Please just do what every other gaming company does and schedule your events at specific days and at precise times. And then, as a bonus, take whoever thought random event times were a good thing and disconnect their internet. That way, when he calls his service provider and the repairman says he'll be around to fix it at any time between 8 am and 5 pm, maybe then this dude will understand why unspecified "time window" events are a terrible idea.
