My first toon, berzerker has failed me or I failed berzerker

My husband and I started with Tera as beta testers before it launched in 2012 (in US). My first toon was a berserker (he picked warrior). We dropped out of playing Tera due to other outside influences, but we have recently got back into Tera and rediscovered our love for it. We picked Tempest Keep as the server to play on.
Here's the problem...its my berserker...I no longer like the playstyle...I hate it in fact. Cast times are too long and by the time I get to hit something after casting it...he destroys it with his warrior. I have tried and tried but last night I played her till level 51 and decided to park her...permanently. She lost the title of 'main character'. I was really hoping stuff might change after level 50. I am a melee chick who likes to face smash crap right in the face....my hubby is the ranged, healer guy but fell in love with the warrior.
Instead, I have a brawler (level 64), and myself now a warrior (level 33) that I see playing till max level...I love those classes. I love the archer now its a lot of fun to play. Does anyone else feel this way about the berserker or is it the way I'm playing her? I looked up quite a few guides and rotations...but every time I go back to the 'zerker, it disappoints me.
it was just a bit of a rant, and a question otherwise have a fantastic day everyone!

  • unfortunately berserker can be like that at lower levels, as your damage takes longer to come out than other classes. zerkers really shine at endgame where bosses won't die in one hit, and you'll see some huge crits. cast times will also get a little better by level 65 with the attack speed you'll be getting from potential jewelry bonuses and gloves. if you wanted to take a break from it for now, you can definitely come back and work on her later! i do really enjoy my own zerk at max level, just the process to get there is pretty unrewarding unless you're sticking to dungeons, where the monsters take a little longer to kill.

well, once you hit lvl 65 and get full gear, your attack speed is much higher than during leveling. not only for zerks, but for all classes. also, berserker has fiery rage skill which have effect of flurry of blows skill (they used to be separate skills, but were merged while ago). it has 45 seconds cd, and flurry of blows effect lasts around 20-25 seconds i think. during that period your attack speed becomes insane and casting times are much faster. you can also improve attack speed with energetic etching, since you can build enough crit now with accesories and innerwear.
  • a lot of people feel that way about berserkers
that's why they don't get played very often. the charge up playstyle doesn't suit everyone. the class is fine tho

HUGE difference between Zerk at 51 and 65 with good rolls on your gear. Night and day. Chalk and cheese.

I advise picking another main character for now, but come back and finish leveling them later. They'll surprise you in endgame.
  • Just reroll Valkyrie.
  • Even at endgame, I feel as if they're lacking. They're fun for sure and charge ups are insanely quick but even with +290 crit factor, the white damage makes me cry. I crit more often with a Mystic in dungeons obviously but I feel as if I shouldn't depend on a Mystic or consumables to crit as much as other classes. As stated before, there is a reason why there aren't a lot of berserker mains and I feel as if they're now on the bottom of the DPS chain.
  • totaly feel you since zerk was my first char ever created...truth is they rly do shine in end game dungeons, since they hit rly hard, but when it comes to leveling and solo content i must agree they are garbage tier..try out diff classes in the meanwhile see what suits u better :)

Even at 65 you gonna feel like that. Zerk is a weird class and it is good to have such a class.

Low gear/ low crit Zerk lowest tier, Higher gear/high crit High tier and (Slaying) Highest Tier
  • Since you like power and getting up close and killing stuff I suggest a brawler or a slayer. The brawler is lots of fun to play (unless this last patch nerfed them in some way) and brawlers have sound of booming fury in their attacks. Slayers are slow but if you use the skills in the right order then slow attacks get much quicker to cast so not my first choice but good if you like a bit of a challenge. Ninjas are good for straight out awesome dps and are fast fast fast. Ninjas only lack booming fury fight sounds but they are fun to use. (Again my one condition is that they made huge changes to some characters in the latest big patch so my ideas are based on the character play I experienced leveling many characters to the 60-65 range just before that patch.) Also playing as an elite status gives you access to a yellow bottled potion that, among other things, gives you great mp line refill that is always on while the potion is active and it keeps your mp decently replenished on those characters that are mp guzzlers.

Drop zerk, this game has a billion melee classes to pick from. Leveling up to around 30 is very fast now so you can easily try out different classes.
  • zekr need hands for evade, but they have insane dps in end game, is no like casual class like brawler or valkirye, you need know how play this game if you roll berserker, is up to you
  • I've mained zerk since day one like you, and I don't think you should scrap it. Like a lot of people have said already. The difference between lvl 51 and lvl 65 is huge. This is because gear rolls and glyphs are a huuuge factor in the basic functionality of a zerk. Without the extra attack speed and bonuses from glyphs you will always feel very inefficient. I recommend looking up a guide and playing through until the end game. Once you get all the numbers right zerk will always be one of your favorite toons.

Tbh, most classes feel like crap at pre 65. I'm prob biased that way since I have almost every class at 65 now. The lack of attack speed while leveling just kills me.
