how do loot boxes work
so i purchased a couple of phoenix loot boxes before the server went down, but didnt get the mount. i know its RNG what comes out of them, but is there anything that i might be doing wrong, other than clicking on one of the cards that pop up in the window?

Not doing anything wrong, the odds of getting the jackpot out of the lootboxes are about 1/100 at best, in my experience. Most people who got mounts out of them bought a lot more than a couple of boxes, I'm afraid.5
