Super-Veteran players who are already at Stormcry with an account net-worth of 1 million+ gold telling fee players "its EZ to make gold lel".
    Ok.
Create a new account. Start at the bottom. No veteran guild to leech off of. No static to hard carry or feed you. Now. Get to Stormcry without literally losing your mind. You can't swipe, like...At all. That's the most important part, because I know half the people who play this game do this, and openly talk about doing this in their guild chats/discord.
You make it sound like veterans weren't newbies once.

    That wasn't the point.
Being a newbie 3 years ago and being a newbie now are two totally different experiences because the game has drastically changed overtime (for the worse...)
The point was that most people seriously don't realize just how much they are carried from their legacy in in this game, and need to (dare I say) check their privilege. I am also a vet, though not a super rich one. The only reason I was able to gear a fresh alt from scratch to Frostmetal was because of my accumulated wealth from years of playing this game, Even gearing that one alt to that point put a significant strain on my reservoir of gold. You can't sit on a mountain of liquid gold that you farmed for over years (or P2W for) and belittle players who point out fundamental flaws in the game design, just because "I'm doin fine so it must be EZ, you just have to git gud".

A new player (obviously) won't have an accumulated wealth advantage when starting fresh in this patch.
A new player won't have an experienced and/or rich guild to leech from.
A new player won't have a static to quickly and comfortably farm harder dungeons.
A new player will likely not want to P2W to get geared in a new game they just started...

And most importantly, not everyone is able to enjoy some or all of these luxuries for whatever reason. For example, I am a veteran, but I no longer have the support of a powerful guild or run with a static. This puts me at a significant disadvantage compared to people who do have this. The less social/legacy benefits you have, the more you can experience the game mechanics without the influence of the social construct, and point out flaws in the actual game design. Even so, I am still pretty comfortable in this patch because of my accumulated wealth alone; but I am smart enough to still identify there is an unsustainable issue in the new mechanics introduced.

The biggest issue is there simply isn't enough avenues to obtain the amount of gold needed to survive in this meta. There are literally 2 main sources of gold: Vanguard gold, and the reward you get for doing the vanguards. Once you clear all your vanguards you ask yourself "what now? I can't sell none of this [filtered] on the market, I can't log onto an alt and farm on them....because I can't gear them (unless you are a super-vet with 12 pre-geared alts). So I'm pretty much [filtered] until tomorrow." And then you log off.
This is basically all that TERA has to offer as a game. That and p2w.

it was harder to have money 3 years ago for a new players, we didnt have kyra and mongos

Thing is Kyras is an event, and it isnt at all like it used to be... so that is not a long term lucrative way for the average player to continuously obtain a steady stream of gold. The other guy is 100% right. all you have is ur 16 Vangaurds and selling the two types of mats that are sell able at the cost that you wont be able to do any gear progression if you do sell them because you do need them for yourself. That being said , because they are the only real items you can sell that are farm able, everyone does it, causing the items value to diminish on the broker.

We also didn't have the incredibly hilarious inflation the game suffers from today....or a goldsink enchanting system that was as ruthless as it currently is. Never in Tera's history did flat gold have the value as it does now.

    double post.

  • anytime there is a way to grind for gold in tera and the powers that be find out that players are making alts and account alts to farm the dickens out of it, the gold gets nerfed or the amount of runs get nerfed. " that aint right " is a good example, iod used to give more gold. fate of arune patch really hurt gold farmers, and the official word was that there were too many botters and it helped stopped the botters from farming for gold, and it would help the economy. kami had over 100 million gold, or close to it, before this recent patch. he knows how to play the broker. smart guy. also before this patch hit, info got leaked out to a certain few that gave them a heads up on what to sell and dump off on people. if you have a job in the real world and you take maybe a couple of hours of pay and convert it to emp so that you can get gold, it is better for you, and then in 6 months from now, having to do it all over again for the new gear.
I know that bhs/eme has to make money some how to keep the f2p game going, and removing ways to make crazy amounts of gold in game is beneficial to them so that they can make money from emp to keep the game going. but so far this patch doesn't seem too newbie or casual friendly as far as making the gold to enchant. just my opinion.
yes there may be loads of ways to make gold this patch ...but its super secret like it always have been, but playing the trade broker starting with nothing, or grinding with alts 10-16 hours a day isn't for everyone.

Now it only really gives costumes, but they have been so under cut as well... ppl are desperate to make gold.... other than that this Kyra is a flop...

He doesn't charge EMP -- why the heck would he have to? He's using gold to make gold. He has so much gold that he'll never need to buy EMP ever (and almost all of it made by using gold to make gold)..
He play trade broker, not the game.
And for me, this make no sense.
What's the point to hoard like 80M on vitual uselees gold and not play the game?
Why not use this time to do kinda the same thing IRL and idk, just play stock market or resell stuff? At least he get real money...
Unless he's rmting in some way all this gold lol.
Tbh, ppl should just play the game to have fun.
But whatever float his boat, maybe he think that hoarding virtual gold is fun and the true end game of Tera...
  • when a game starts becoming a full time job with the hours you put in it just to earn gold, then it stops being a game.
if you have to put 6-12 hours a day into a game just to earn gold so that you can then enjoy the game, how many hours of enjoyment does that leave you? I quit trying to chase the gear progression over a year now, and I actually get to enjoy it.

it is why we call it mmorpg or hack and slash single player game :3

I think there are a lot of ways to look at it. It's just another kind of challenge in a different way -- the market is a battleground of its own, and playing with "fake money" is way less risky than playing the real market with real money. I think it can be fun, though I'm personally not as into it as he and some others are. But anyway, the point really was, as someone who does observe the market carefully to see the trends, he was trying to provide a hint that other good opportunities are out there still for everyone (not just traders) to discover.

I do think at least part of (not all of) the problem is because of how significant the change is compared to the old way, and the fact that the "optimization secrets" for the new system aren't widely known yet. This has happened other times in TERA's history, and it does tend to resolve itself over time. I also think the community hasn't yet adjusted to the new expectation of just how far you need to go in the gearing process to be acceptable, or how long this gear cycle is even going to be... so there are still a lot of things working themselves out. At the same time, I don't think the perception some have of it can be entirely ignored either.

  • The whole point of this patch was to force people to play the game rather than getting gear quickly, regardless of your bank. I am a veteran player, with an average sized bank of gold accumulated over the years, however I always have a rule for myself: all the gold I make on a character stays on that character. I only put bankable materials into the bank and don't use the gold saved in the bank for anything other than cosmetics. Now I am also an alt-aholic. I enjoy playing all the classes and do so pretty equally, and thus have many characters who only have 15-30k gold. So you may say that for me it is horrible to get gear for all my classes, and to that I say Not Really.

Playing this patch made me realize something... I think people forget how hard it was in the old system to enchant gear as a new player. The amount of gold you got. while more than this patch, was absolutely worthless when you had to buy semi's + MW scrolls + MWA + Identification scrolls (yes they add up for new players especially) + Feedstock (since the amount that dropped was pitiful.) Leveling a new character and enchanting the gear without help from a guild or other sources of alkahest and feedstock took Months (kinda like it is now.) I've done it multiple times, and would know. I can honestly say that as a player with very little gold on my characters, gearing this patch takes less time than it did to grind the money to buy materials for the last enchanting process.

Now this comes with a huge caveat: it's only less time consuming to get up to Frostmetal. Getting Stormcry is a whoooole different ball game and a far away goal to a player without previous funds. Which was kinda the point. The economy was so ruined that they needed a way to drain the amount of gold in the game, and force people to play instead of swipe. So if you are a player with limited funds going into this patch, getting Stormcry is something you'll be looking at grinding for months for. I argue that this gearing system is a good thing. People need reasons to keep playing the for 6 months at a time. StormCry should be something a brand spanking new player gets about 2-3 months into their play session. That's how a good gearing system works. We are just so used to Tera's [filtered]-backwards gearing system of everyone having max gear in 1-2 weeks.

So instead of complaining that you can't get enough gold, complain that there isn't enough content to keep you occupied for the 2-3 months of playing it takes to get StormCry. That's what Tera really needs. Gold amounts don't matter, how fast you get gear shouldn't matter. What should matter is that there is enough diverse content to keep you playing as you work towards the end goal. HORIZONTAL content expansions, not vertical. Heck, I would be happier if StormCry was the top gear for a year, and they just released more dungeons that gave the same materials as we do now (as long as they DIDN'T remove the old ones...worst things BHS does)

Anyways, that was a much longer post than I thought I was going to type out. On topic, I'm totally for merging all of the servers into just a single PvE, PvP, and RP, but not for any of the economy reasons, mainly just to have a more active playerbase.

Incidentally, this is kind of sort of what they suggested -- that they would keep releasing more dungeons, but not release new gear. They've also suggested that they're going to remove dungeons less often. Nobody's exactly sure yet exactly what they mean by all that, but it might be along those lines. It's at least consistent with what they appear to have said. If people knew already that this was going to be the case, I think it would help change the perception a little bit. Time will tell.

Just my two cents here- made new account on ktera about 1 or 2 weeks before gear revamp patch, and am currently doing totally fine with 1 toon at full stormcry with weapon at +8, 3 alts all in full +0 frostmetal gear except with a +0 stormcry weapon that i'm not going to enchant. i don't think you guys are playing the game efficiently . .

Comparing K Tera to Na.... smh. not even the same economies. I suggest making a toon on NA, specifically FF (since this is the server that im discussing , yet ppl forgot that.. a dead server with limited PvE end game content players) and start fresh and tell me when you get to stormcry :^)
