Honestly, to some extent like as what Haloist said, even if I know I'm doing my job well, it can still make me feel "weak." Like it's not my role, it's not my point to be trying to compete, but still those huge numbers make me... jealous? I don't know how to explain it myself but it's almost an embarrassing feeling. When someone has a DPS meter and pastes the stats after a boss fight and I'm around 10 percent or so, there's just something so unsatisfying (though I know the DPS and healers don't care.) We shouldn't be pressured to be DPS, but likewise it's almost a useless feeling when we're not able to contribute in that sense (even though it's not even our job!)

Doesn't bother me all the time but when I notice, I definitely notice. :'o

D'aw... yeah. I'll always notice and support genuine peeps. Plus I love this thread as it sheds some light on how other classes feel about their builds or performance. Thanks for sharing too, at the very least it's not a heated debate but an educational one. But I just kinda feel bad that sometimes Lancers get pressured into focusing on DPS-ing so much just to be maybe Top 3 in the "meter list" and to be ranked say Top 10 on the.. umm.. ranking site and they tend to stray. I feel sad knowing it as it takes out the fun in the game let alone when the dps-es in the party don't even care as long as they're a good tank.

But I guess I can understand why. It's the same for me as a Priest vs Mystic.. lol, Mystics shine now so.. eheh.
  • Maybe one day they'll include a section where it shows "Damage Mitigated" or "Damage Blocked". I think that would make us feel better about tanking.
Unless that's already a thing. Then my bad

Considering how annoying bosses HP are since BHS/EME decided to mega buff them for annoying reasons... yeah lol! Decent DPS Lancer is sexy o3o; Though I still love seeing them tank better than anything.
  • you know whats funny is this patch iv still held aggro 95% as a brawler with lucid fist +13 vs the dps having frost +9 so no dps isent a factor if you actually know how to use your shout at the right time and keep your growing furry 100% and how well you know the dungeon bosses

fyi also didnt use threatening crystal in the lucid
  • also they made tanking a joke since now you dont even get pushed back and gave you a front crit crystal so there is no excuse why you cant keep aggro anymore and seriously growing fury dosent have a 3 min cd anymore if you cant keep at least 80% aggro you should be playing another class theres no excuse unless its 1-5 run for the first time in the dungeon
iv even tanked a few times with a phone in one of my hand
so just tank to spots where its safe and the dps get back time and watch the healer because healer are your top priority to keep alive dps can die and if dps sucks then just dps for them
  • lol to the guy who said he shakes his head for tanks to go in dungeon for the first time without reading or watching any vid of a dungeon well i do that and its the best way to learn because your actually paying attention to what is happening and why your dying people who just watch or read are just followers whats the fun in copying other people play style and not even figuring it out on your own its more fun to learn yourself then to just copy other people
the best time i have learning as a tank is when the team is really bad because you have A LOT OF TIME to pick up on the boss patterns
  • also yzobela I dont know what your talking about how tanks get very little compliments seriously if you are a good tank DPS HEALERS will notice you and compliment you like no other THEY LOVE GOOD TANKS I ended up getting a lot of people adding me on there friend list and the whole time iv played iv only went out of my way to friend 2 people and it was a healer who I meet on que who didnt like brawlers when brawler came out because 90% of dps jumped ship to be a brawler and didnt know how to tank at all so they didnt want to heal me because i was a brawler and i said thats fine threw on the 50% less hp gives 1.7 crit and they blew me away they were able to heal the dps without healing me at all and i LOVED IT because those healer are SOOOOO rare so ya she tough i was good so they ended up being my healer for a while and the other person i went out of my way to friend was a mystic who was a dps mystic

so yes being a GOOD TANK gets you lots of praise and invited to every run making you feel SUPER SPECIAL so ya come on lets be real tanks only get yelled at if they are clueless on that class

I mean TANKS n HEALERS get praised A LOT if there good on the other hand lel DPS get shafted because they can always be replaced in a heartbeat and yes even if the DPS is GOOD they dont get a lot of props

and also SOOOOO funny when tanks out dps dps and mostly when the dps gear is A LOT higher then the tanks (yes that means they need to find a new class to play XD)
  • btw tanks and healers have the power to kill dps if they wanted to iv had a healer friend who used pull on a dps because they didnt like what the dps was doing so the healer used pull on the 1 shot mec and also they stopped healing them and stuff and as a tank if i didnt like how the dps was i would just stop grabbing aggro on purpose (but let the healer know in a PM ahead of time because to cruel for a healer to clean up after crappy dps) but ya those are the dps who grab aggro for like only 1 sec and be like OMG I HAVE AGGRO TANK SUCK (but in reality its because they just used there highest dps attack and every consumable and brooch) i mean noting to really brag about having aggro for 1 sec would be a diff story if it was over 30 sec so ya just let those people learn by stopping the aggro AND LET THEM FELL WHAT HAVING REAL AGGRO FEELS LIKE but its always funny to watch (but most import is let your healer know ahead of time)
as a tank you have to love your healer 90% of the time even if there bad healers even if they dont know what there doing but for dps F them is what i say
iv protected A LOT of healers in my time playing this game when dps try to complain or put blame on a healer ARNT here to babysit dps you dont need healers to heal iv been in a few runs where we didnt have a healer in group also you have brooches to cleans fyi done rift edge last boss without a healer before as a lancer and finished it and only one that died on the team was me the lancer (cus i used the take your team damage onto yourself when it was gate time)
also let dps die when they rush in fights when healer or tank is not ready LET THEM LEARN its the only way to teach dps

Appreciate the tips! I just started playing a Lancer in TR.
Two questions: I'm trying to practice my shield counter timing and the guide has made me wonder:
    1. Is it used at all in end-game dungeons? Is it worth practicing now, or should I just focus on blocking and de-buffing/buffing?
    2. Sometimes I get it just right, other times I swear I've hit spacebar at the exact moment, but I jump in place. Is it a ping-related issue, or is the skill just wonky?

swich off your keys off space bar you will be a WAY BETTER anything later on like for my brawler i put my counter as E on my keyboard instead of space bar because you can actually control WHEN TO USE IT and it wont be overwritten with other chain skill

Question, why do tanks as of late care so much about the DPS THEY deal as opposed to being able to actually tank a boss and position it whilst maintaining aggro 100% or at least able to pull back aggro almost instantly the moment a DPS crits too big? Is it really that important in numbers for tanks to have "best dps" against other tanks (Lancers and Brawlers) when their job is to just TANK?

I do however know Brawlers have a DPS perk as well, logically, they use their fists lol and fast moves + auto blocks as skills are casted but what about Lancers? They're the boys with the big shields, shouldn't they worry more about holding position and aggro rather than DPS?

    It baffles me really.

when DPS throw on a BIG CRIT as a tank your suppose to save a shout for that. That way you grab aggro back in a sec also if you want 100% aggro grab back you use enrage shout first then right after a regular shout grabs it 100% back but if you use enrage shout by itself you wont be getting 100% aggro back

Well what you're saying is logical, but players nowadays also want faster runs and not slowpoke runs anymore.

Imagine this: If you were to choose between 2 lancers, lancer A who can dish out tons of damage AND hold aggro/position boss properly, and lancer B who does very low dps but can also hold aggro/position boss properly, which one would you choose? Unless you're some masochist who likes to drag dungeon runs longer than it's necessary, the obvious answer would be to pick lancer A, or even pick a competent Brawler over lancer B.
Since bosses now have abnormally large HP pools, it starts feeling like a chore to fight them when the tank can't dps for nuts.
(To add on to this, I've actually seen lancers being able to hold aggro with just shield counter and aggro shout, with the very occasional spring attack and wallop, but this results in very slow dungeon runs unless the dps are overgeared for the dungeon.)

Another way to look at it is player competition. Who doesn't like to do better than someone else? Sure, it might be used as an ego boost, but it's healthy competition as long as it stays civilised.

dude i would chose C a lancer who knows how to buff there team and debuff boss more less lancer are team support to make the team dps shine more both A (a want to be super fail dps) and B (maby ok if there just learning the dungeon) seriously dose not know how to play a lancer then (lancer job is not just to hold aggro those are classified as lazy lancers)

Sorry, I'm a bit tired and was in the middle of sleeping when the sound of notifications from your comments came in. I can't rely reply extensively right now, but if you'd like you're free to address these in a separate forum. You seem to have knowledge to share of your own and I think most new people (this is a mini guide after all) would not be able to follow your style well just by reading these posts. Thanks!

ya but its super funny when you out dps a dps and also that means you care to much on how people think about you (i was a lancer but went brawler ONLY reason was because I didnt have to fell helpless when you get a SUPER BAD dps team Lancer only made to hold aggro and make dps shine but if the dps is hitting for 0 you cant really make that shine)
and yes i was also a slayer TANK(and sometimes lancer) back when br was new because slayers have enough iframe and i knew how to tank so slayer tank was ez back when slayer did high dps why because when i was on my lancer and my team took 3hr on turtle
also slayer tanked rift edge (with dps crystals) (YOU ONLY USE TREATING WHEN YOU JUST A ROOKY IN A DUNGEON IF YOU KNOW YOUR GOING TO DIE MORE THEN 5x on a boss if you done a dungeon over 10x and still wear a threading then shame on you or pay attention to the bosses attack seriously)
  • also gearwise dosent matter that much as a tank to hold aggro your just fooling yourself or making excuses why you cant keep aggro
