Fix Zayo Routing to Texas users!

Hello,

a while back I had made a post about Zayo due to an almost 100 percent increase in ping. (40-50 to 65-80).

it was a thing that I noticed fast and doing traceroute seems to show zayo is back. I'm making this post to see if there is anything en masse can do to fix the routing to texas servers. right now the only fix is to use a routing program like WTFast or mudfish.

They are still collecting information on this issue, so when you see the ping spike, make a diagnostic trace and send it to the inbox.

    This thread has more information.

We went to Zayo because the alternative was causing 300-800 ms ping spikes for most of the playerbase for a while there. I don't know if they can pick and choose who gets what routing--I suspect it is an all or nothing thing tho.
  • Thanks, I'll submit a diag... the issue is not any ping spikes, just the overall "higher" ping in general. I can get 40 ping with a software like mudfish, but getting 30-40 ping higher without it (0-10 ping higher on savvis), the issue is just routing, so, if they can't do anything about it then I guess I'm SoL and have to use mudfish. Good thing about mudfish is that it is VERY cheap.

    Good to know.

Yeah, what Savvis was doing was insane, like routing Chicago to Atlanta to get to the other side of Chicago. Randomly.

I live in Texas, and I haven't experienced any sort of ping increase. It must be only on some users.
  • No please not Savvis again! I have such amazing good ping and smooth gameplay :bawling:
  • I'm in Texas as well, my ping (via % ping) is 50ms, in game averages between 50ms and 80ms and my trace route shows an average of 56ms. The routing is pretty [filtered]: from DFW x 2 routers to Houston then up to Chicago x 4 routers then finally to land in San Diego. For me, there are two problematic routers that are contributing to my increased latency: the second DFW router that links to Houston and the Houston router. The next set of problematic reouters are are always the final 2 routers in Chicago.
  • I guess I would say that if your ping is a bit higher now, but at least it's stable and not spiking randomly with disconnections... that's better than a lot of people had before. It's unlikely that Zayo will take any urgent action to fix routes that are stable, even if they're a bit roundabout.
  • My ping is, for the most part, more stable than it has been in a long while. Every once in a while now I spike to 140 to 150ms. Tolerable. No cable modem here, stuck on ATT uVerse and have no other options. My entire infrastructure is IPv6 and IPv4 dual configured.
  • I live in Southeast of Texas and I have no issues. Really I recommend that you get yourself a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem and a router with IPv6 capability. If anything first I recommend the DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem and I noticed a major difference once I upgraded! Having a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem and a router with IPv6 capability is ideal. Also make sure that the DOCSIS 3.0 (mostly the modem) and router is compatible with your internet provider. I got a good deal on a TP-LINK one. Just do your research and I hope you find one that works for you.

I have this since I can get up to 350mb/s with my current ISP, Spectrum's 300 package. I have the modem / router rated for those speeds. This is only an issue with my ISPs routing to their game server.
