Level 68 world boss drops disappear?

Is the time that you have to pick up level 68 boss drops limited. Because i joined a party with someone when they were in the middle of the fight. And i originally couldn't pick up the loot. So they changed the loot options to free for all until i could see the loot as pick-up-able and we changed the loot options back to normal. And then soon after before we started picking up the loot it all disappeared. Don't really care much but does this supposed to happen? Like is the loot timed?
