How much did TERA cost to make?
Just recently I found out about the prices of certain MMORPGs.
Taking into consideration that a game like Star Wars: The Old Republic presumably spent over 300 million dollars in terms of production and marketing before 2013... is a fascinating number. It really shows; a lot of effort was put into that game and it's a thrilling experience. Other reports claim that a game like Guild Wars 2 had its budget of around 70 million, perhaps less. Not many sources to back this up. Another game like The Elder Scrolls Online was rumored to have spent up to 100 million, but other sources claim it was 200 million and so.
But how much did TERA cost? There's barely anything about its production value online. I found a website that claimed it cost over 50 billion, which is absolutely ridiculous. It was most likely a typo. I'm rather curious about this since TERA is one of the few MMOs where effort and variety were actually put into the animation department. Every single race and gender have their own set of emotes, idles and animations with barely to no recycling. They even act and react differently when using mounts and talking. Let's not also forget that each race and gender have their own versions of each armor set. I just find this amazing, especially for a MMO. Most of the MMOs I have played there were always some kind of recycling and re-skins, and that is really noticeable for a game like Guild Wars 2 to the point where it becomes distracting.
Does anyone have any reports, interviews, reliable sources or solid assumptions?

Ah, that makes so much more sense. 46 million USD seems to be a reasonable price for it. I still wonder how they managed to handle the animations so well. A company like ArenaNet tries to avoid forging new ones as much as possible.
That's a bit of a double-edged sword, all told. In one hand, BHS going through the lengths it does to make sure every race and class combination is unique help with immersion and making the world seem more alive and grounded (insofar that a high/dark fantasy setting can be considered "grounded"). In the other, one could make the argument that doing so takes resources away from tweaking or fixing certain issues, or adding more content, and so on.
Long and short, trimming the fat in one area of a game can have both negative and positive effects (sometimes simultaneously!) in another area. Depends on the game, really.
And then they copy pasted Female Brawler animations to Male.
bhs marketing are weaker than EA, ncsoft and bethesda, so their marketing cost less
Some of these animations are a bit too feminine. We'll see once it launches. Even the gunner had different animations for elves and castanics.
Because the old animators are probably not there anymore, so if they went with the "reduced team" excuse before, now they can use the "skeleton crew" one.
And Castanic Gunner to Elin.
come on, could have left at least the idle combat stance then!
so 40 dollars usd then lol
