like okay, how about being just a tad more constructive guys? Implement a fail-safe measure where if you buy 100 boxes or 200 idc you're guaranteed to have one? This is not the first time i'm intrigued to see the probability distributions and RNG behind those boxes, this is gambling and I'm this close to suing them.

They only thing you can do it write a letter to your local gambling authority to help get lootboxes classified as gambling to get rid of the damn things in games once and for all. EA already did most of the legwork for you with SW Battlefront 2 but every extra bit helps.

Wait, what? You're going to sue them? For what?

It clearly tells you in the description how the box works, it never guaranteed you anything. Assuming that it ever reached litigation they'd laugh you out the room.

Well, loot boxes are already banned in Europe since it was determined as a form of gambling. Now it is not about how they could say "hey I told you so". Even if it is clearly stated, the vast majority of Tera players are underage, whether minors are exposed to gambling is not mine to say.
  • apparently people are forgetting that EME/BHS's number 1 goal is to get you to spend money, no matter the way. Even if your spending money you don't have. They are a business and to stay in business you need to generate money.

Their product is in a pitiful state so they sell you costumes and gimics to stay in business. If costumers only bought once then they wouldnt make that much. So you make it just like gambling. Do you think everyone who goes into a casino comes out a winner? or do 95% of the people lose while only 5% get lucky and win.
  • Elin Usagi: Dang.. Talk about bad luck!! lol
  • That's how it works, sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you're not. Unless you're ready to spend A LOT money on boxes on regular basis (like, you know, thousands or tens of thousands), you'd better refrain from buying any. That's the WORST way of getting "just the one item you want".

Sadly, it's often the only way available. So you shall also think if you REALLY need the item that much. I mean, you spend 500$ and left empty-handed anyway, so you could actually live without it. Then don't spend any. At least in future.

Sadly tho even if you got something you'd never own it any ways

The game is rated M in NA. And no their not outlawed in Europe. Belgium wants to classify lootboxes as gambling thus effectively banning them from every game thats not rated AO.

Sorry. But i would by allot more stuff from the EMP store if i could buy the costumes i want directly for my characters. Ive been burned by lootboxes before and will refuse to spend a single cent on them again and i doubt i'm the only one with this mindset.
  • Except this isn't the lottery, and online gambling has a different set of laws. Whether or not you agree with them is irrelevant, there's nothing illegal about what they're doing. If you keep buying them, they will keep selling them.

Again, it was in the item description.

    1. The general lottery is governed by LAW. You think they will sell lottery tickets to kids?
... The purpose of buying boxes in tera is that I want an outfit.

This game's rated M, so that's probably how they skate around the whole "selling gambling to kids" thing.
Anyway, this is why lootboxes are bad. They exist to prey on first-timers who go in thinking they'll get something after like, 5-10 boxes. And then when they get nothing after 10, they fall into the gambler fallacy and the sunk cost fallacy ("I've opened 10, the odds of failing 10 more in a row would be super low; I'm guaranteed to win if I just buy 10 more" and "I've come this far, it'd be a waste to stop now!") and keep buying until they're frustrated and out of cash. For some reason there's no end to these people, and then there're the whales who enjoy the rush and do it regularly.

Just know it going forward. Even though you buy lootboxes with the outfit in mind, lootboxes don't exist to give you an item. If anything it's the opposite, because as long as you don't get the item you'll keep buying boxes and giving EME your money.
  • I need friends like Nick and Lointaine and Voidy in my life to stop me.. >.<
  • and this is why more advanced western countries are starting to look into online gambling in vidya games. will Korea's western releases die if their common gambling practices in games become legislated and regulated? or will they just go full blown p2w without the sugar coat they have started to migrate to? would it spell doom? here is my thing. i don't gamble...period, not with my money. Ever heard the saying, "a fool and his money will soon be parted."? now that being said, games that just sell me what i want straight up i generally spend a couple grand + per year on. games that offer gambling boxes i spend nothing and only play if they are free to waste time in. gotta start using that gray matter between your ears....it's called your brain. i understand though, it's a rarely used feature of the human body these days. but anyways, thx for making it easy to exploit money from you...i'll continue to sit on my [filtered] at home collecting the checks.
  • It was enough 10 loot boxes for me to understand that I will not ever buy this thing again.

Many of the politicians who spoke against "loot boxes" were speaking specifically about pay to win loot boxes. For example, France stated loot boxes when used for cosmetics were clearly not a problem, what was the problem were the loot boxes designed to provide an advantage or sell necessary content. Pay to win loot boxes from their view essentially forces you to gamble just to play the game. This means any government with this point of view isn't on your side, as they support the type of loot boxes found on Tera.

If the complaints were over loot boxes then it wouldn't take until EA sells a game full of pay to win for loot boxes to be noticed, as EA has gambling in other games, and lets not forget Blizzard as well as Steam. Even LoL has "loot boxes".
