User Authentication Failed

hi im new to the game as in i havent even got past the launcher....i downloaded the game via torrent and installed it everything went fine but when i try to login it says "User Authentication Failed" im afraid my region might be the problem since im in India.If that is the case do i need to use vpn? is that considered legal? or should give up all hope?
