Returning Player ... how to deal with "from the rear" in my gameplay?

Give me, please, some pointers on "from the rear" strategies to make my return to the game less upsetting. I seem to remember leaving the game 7 or 8 months ago frustrated that I wasn't doing the kind of damage I thought I had been doing (while soloing) when I suddenly was in party play and the other guys were doing so much more. I forget exactly which class I was playing, but it was a range dps, and I had a hard time always staying within the rear cone of the monster as it rotated. I can imagine if the tank is holding the mobs attention that it can be easier to stay in the 'sweet spot', but that doesn't always happen, and getting behind a monster that is constantly rotating can be daunting. And that doesn't explain how you're suppose to attack a monster when you're soloing .... and theoretically the monster is usually facing you. What am I missing and how can I improve my performance? If I gear toward less "rear attack" gems and such, will I ever be a capable player?

Backcritting is the only form of doing any actual damage. On solo bosses the trick is to stay closer so you can get behind them faster during their animation lock. Depending on boss it can be easier or harder to do.

While in animation the bosses retain their back status they had immediately prior to start of the animation, so for example is the boss is doing a spinning attack, his "real back" you're supposed to be hitting is the same spot in which he started it, so you don't actually need to spin with him 1080 around the room. Forceful crystal is a very good indicator of this, as you can see the effect going off only when you're hitting the "real back"

difference between good and great dps is on backtime. Usually it is hard to practice this in easier dungeons. The first dungeons you can actually practice on is actually 3 star dungeons at level 65.
