Does crafting serve a purpose?

Haven't played in a while, and checked my crafting. It doesn't seem that anything I can make is comparable to what I can get from dungeons or cheaply thru the broker. Is there any reason to level crafting in terms of making things for my own use?

    Crafting is pretty much essential in the current patch -- Alchemists can craft gems, Weaponcrafters can craft Golden Daric/Plate for enchanting your gear, and Armorcrafters can craft Silver Plate for upgrading your jewelry. it'll be necessary materials later on, starting from Frostmetal and up. the only bottleneck i would say is getting the materials needed to craft (Golden Talent/Silver Talent) since there is no alternative way to get them other than dungeons afaik and perhaps designs since they are very expensive straight off the crafting merchant; try the auction house ? cheers o/
