Getting Terrible FPS

I have a more than capable machine, able to run more demanding games than TERA fine, but TERA is stuck at like 30 fps max. I've tried changing files around and fixing stuff but to no avail. Is there anything that I am possibly missing that is making run like complete [filtered]?

I've followed the Nvidia optimization guide as well, that didn't work either.
  • Tera's fps is usually limited by your cpu speed. If you don't have a 4ghz+ cpu you're probably not going to get much better than 30 fps in cities and such.

i have i5-8600k and 4.6ghz tho, also thanks for the response btw
  • This game is unoptimized try playing it on an AMD cpu, true hell.
  • How much graphic ram do you have and system ram? I read somewhere on this forum that you need a lot of ram to run Tera smoothly, but that's more on loading everything
  • I have 8gb on both of them

I vote on hoax, or memory leak.
I have 8GB and TERA never used more than 1,6GB in total. Seriously.

Do you have multiple controllers on your system, or even just one? If it's not an Xbox 360 controller, it can cause memory leak, in which case you need to unplug and plug it back to solve. Yea. This is a thing.

Personally I have memory leak problems if I leave the game on for too long but a relog fixes it. No controllers

Yeah, heard about that too, and funny enough I have an Xbox 360 controller on it and no matter how long I leave it open, do other stuff (as in, minimize and go do something else on the PC) and such, always 1.6GB tops.

That's the issue with this game: way too many possibilities of problems. The code is a puzzle

Maybe you never played at higher resolutions. I play at 2560x1440 and have done so for 2 years, this game easily goes above 2GB ram for me. (Not video ram, system ram)
That said, with 8 it shouldn't be a problem.

Graphic ram on Tera doesn't really matter these days. Even older cards like a Radeon 6000 series with 1 GB video ram should be okay.
But that said IF you are using one of those, then that could be your problem, lack of power..... even at 1920x1080
At 2560x1440 this game peaks at 1GB Video ram and maybe a little above.

The problem when you get 30 fps is just Tera being Tera. Your system config/parts won't even matter, you'll still get drops.

My system is a 4670k @4.6ghz and Super Clocked GTX 970 and I play at 2560x1440. Sometimes the fps is great and randomly at times without doing anything it turns to crap.
  • So in other words, I'm most likely just doomed with this game, and there's nothing I can do about it.

It's just all over the place at times. But pretty much.
You have to learn to live with it to enjoy it sadly.

My suggestion if it does bother you a lot, I guess turn down the settings :/
Although honestly with our rig, we shouldn't have too.
  • Alright, thanks everyone for the help. If there are any other suggestions or any further insights, they are more than welcome.

if you wanna change something on the game (~hint hint S1.Engine~) I suggest UI mods to remove stuff like names and such. The interface is the biggest CPU drain of TERA, and what will most likely cap your FPS.

Yeah Tera is a complete mess with problems, some people can get well over 100 fps at all times others really crappy fps.

@Y6KLKHTXM5 have you tried lowering your nvidia settings? I tired that and got an 10 fps increase

real question how the [filtered] do you people play with your graphics jacked all the way up without going [filtered] blind. this game is so overly bright, shiny and saturated that looking at it makes my eyes water, especially in particularly bright+crowded places like velika
