Returning Player, time commitment at endgame?

Greetings,

So a lot of things have changed since I last really played at the end of 2016.
Leveled a new Lancer last week to reacquaint myself with the game mechanics and hit the start of endgame, i428, enchanting Guardian gear, and rather quickly hitting a gold wall.

Looking ahead to the more difficult sets, where you need more gold, gems, and do not have a 100% success rate, how much of a time commitment does the average person have to put in to get through Twistshard and Frostmetal, much less Stormcry?

I have a standard 9-5 job (+2 hr commuting), 2-3 gym days after work, so I get maybe 3-4 hours per night and most of the weekend to play (if I really focus on playing TERA).

- Is this remotely enough to progress in the current tier? Or at 3-4 hours/day, will I be struggling to hammer out my 16 Vanguards and eventually burn out from the grind?

- Are alts viable at this point? I am leveling Valk, so likely longer dungeon queues but easier solo instances and IoD. Will this alt essentially be resigned to the entry level set (I understand there's a new patch soonish), or will there be enough gold left over to at least get it into Twistshard?

- How soon do people expect the new patch to arrive? If it is within the next few weeks lets say, would it make sense to continue farming for enchantments/upgrades, or just level alts and start fresh with the new baseline set (skipping Guardian I imagine)?

Thanks in advance for your insights.
- Deicide

With that amount of time you should get Frostmetal from Guardian gear in a week at most.

You may even reach full stormcry and daylight accesories in less than a month without much trouble with that amount of time.

    Imho:

Full Stormcry +0 is doable for semi casuals, but i'll be honest and realistic (unlike most of what ppl say here), if you got no resource (i.e: gold) this can take a month or more, twisthard idk why is expensive af and it take time to cap exp on your gear...

To enchant from SC+0 it will be a lot easier if you're an old player with lots of resorces to buy a desing to convert rubies (farmed from ghilie/petrax) into emeralds on one alt and another alt to craft golden plate (master weapon crafting, lots of crafter cures and 155K gold just on designs, golden talents is ez to farm on IOD low tier bams), you can buy the plates or ask any friend to craft too.
If you got nothing of this and are starting from scratch, then you gear progression in this game will take a LOT longer farming gold on boring content.

Full Storm +5 is doable if you put effort, from SC+6 onwards you gonna need diamonds.
From a free to play perspective with a job i would stop with something like a SC+7 weapon and rest SC+4~+5.
You can cap you weapon exp and farm essences on CU/PVP boxes and if you get lucky (i.e: 2~3 tries) you can +8 your weapon w/o bothering too much with rke, a dungeon balanced arround k-tera talents that ppl love here....
Full SC+9 just forget, you gonna need a static and be rly hardcore farming rke on a "perfect party" so in the end you can fail RNG.
And don't forget, P2W route can do wonders in this game, you can just sell EMP (i.e: costumes) for gold, cap your gear exp on faceroll content like rknm or trnm and just buy things like essences and even marrow brooch from other players ;)

Prob next patch in 4~5 months from now idk, that's the time you got to enjoy your gear till it will be trash all over again. And ofc more broken classes (cof Zerk cof) cuz BHS will try everything so we reroll and trash our 2.0+1.5 dragons, qc brooches, expensives innerwears and costumes, laurels, etc.

I agree that artisan level crafting on weaponcrafting and alchemy are a boon to inexpensive leveling of gear. Being able to craft darics from talents for your own use and selling the extras is a good option. Check the broker for designs tho as a little patience there may find deep discounts over what the design costs from the weaponcrafting supply guy.

Being able to craft emeralds from found rubies is fantastic as well. (Ghillieglade is now your friend) Again, check the broker for emerald design, meanwhile stock what gems you can.

Run as many of the low level dungeons as you can, 16x VG at 600 each helps mightily. Finish with 2 GG for gems, start storing them up. If you can, get at least one alt to 65, that way on a weekend you can maybe max your VG on both of them. That's 19,000 gold more or less (38,000 for both days), WITHOUT selling any silver talents, etc, that you may be needing soon. That should help some of your gearing woes.

When you need gold talents, kill basilisks on Isle of Dawn.

Those same low level dungeons are decent for silver talents.

I think the best use of any entropic talents you encounter is still silver talents.

I hope this helps. PM me if you want. I'm super excited to see a returning lancer--I hope you have enough fun with this to stay with us!

OH and once you get into Frost, you can also get good gem drops from Pit of Petrax. I have no idea how much of a slog that might be on a lancer, tho.

Quick additional note--double posted b/c didn't want to lose my entry to the spam filter.

You will have your gear for AT LEAST 4-5 months--there is till no sign of a new gear cycle in KTERA. Instead there is class Awakening--and wait until you see what lancers get.

If I missed an important KTERA patch note, someone let me know, but I just did a quick check of the last month or so and nothing.

Thankfully there is a nerf to gold cost to upgrade Guardian/Twistshard gear that we should get in a couple months.

And currently the only new gear in KTera is a straight upgrade from Stormcry, and it can't be enchanted yet. It's just like another +1. Your overall assessment of their strategy is...not far off though. Who's excited to gear up their neglected Ninjas and ranged DPS when we get Awakening pt. 2 in a year and they blow the other classes away? =/
  • In a few months the amount of gold, golden talents, silver talents you need to enchat is going to decrease for guardian, twistshard and respective acc's, the enchat ments will now need more materials (wood scraps etc)

If you are low on gold, mats, gear and toons then i'd proitise what you need to do more then what you want

I'd personal aim for full frostmetal on one toon (allows you to do high teir vg's)
Also try to level more toons to 65, 6 or more is a good aim, ideally 12+ is great, with these 65's make sure you are doing your GG runs everyday, the gems can be sold to give you money to fund your guardian gear and twistshard gear, also the mats that drop can be useful as you can dismantle the ones you dont need for the ones you do

You can do low tier iod in guardian gear, this gives you a very good supply of golden talents, use these or sell them depending what you need more, you only need talents up till forstmetal so dont worry about darics or plates

Make sure to watch for events that may happen as usually you can get a lot of mats, gold or useful items that could help you

3/4 hours a day is fine, you can get sc +0 easy just gotta value if its worth while doing so

This right here is basically all you need to know. Pick a main, use all your mats on it to enchant its gear. Have as many 65s as possible to farm Pit and Ghilly on. I have 1 main and 6 other 65 alts, these 7 runs of both dungeons earn me over 10k per week in just gem sales alone and it only takes 1 hour to do all characters. These 2 dungeons are your highest gold earned per time invested.

After that is quick RG runs then IoD tier 1 farming which can be done in 30 mins for 16 vanguards and can be done on multiple alts. Although that will increase your burnout time.
