It looks like they do not have x2 vanguards and they did not lower the item level requirements as happened here, but they instead increased the drop rate of this mote. So it's less rewarding, but the mote makes it go faster.
always go to middle ch. works for me. :chuffed:
Sorc, zerker, Archer, War and Priest shouldn't come IOD at all.
But exactly this clear definition is the strong suit of Tera. I bet BHS thought more than 100 times about changing the skill system into the hybrid system like WoW as. One click and suddenly I'm a shadow priest, firing mah lazors.
BHS is well aware of the problem. In the beginning, they put in equal collecting quests for the non-DPS classes (healers, tanks). Ghiliglade has a special healer power buff. However, you can't easily balance Vanguards. If 4 motes drop for me as priest, the Brawler just will pick up my motes after 1 min.
Perhaps this is why you can level a character in 24h (see ninja release) to max level and get Dreadnaught for free. It's also important that everything is shared among all your characters. In other MMOs, you have to bring up reputation for each character. Here you can even use Gold Enchanter with 1 alliance member for all your other characters or buy Belli/KS stuff for your other chars.
Keep in mind that balance is something dynamic and not easily done. I even remember the short time frame when Slayers were overpowered. Want to adjust motes every 2 months? I don't think so.
I havn't tried zerker, but I did solo the top tier bams with sorc, archer and priest (all in +12 slaughter weapon, rest dread). Archer and sorc were a bit more tedious and demanded more attention and actual playing. Archer performs quite well on low and mid tier bams with a trap/stun combo setup, while the high tier are a bit worse due to the high stun resistance that comes with higher level difference.
It's true that with brawler you can solo bams with only your left hand, using your right to eat dinner or... something. And for single minded grinding every day nothing beats it, but if you want to do some real playing the other classes work just fine.
Currently both priest and brawler are my two favorite classes for easy soloing of the bams. I just swap priest gloves to the damage version (dread), and swap to crit jewels (quite easy to get nowadays) + use a crit damage scroll and it becomes a breeze. Keening dawn + powerlink glyph for mana recharge makes shocking implosion hit for 1 million per critting tick.
Small tips from a noob (aka me). Crystals I use and few things I do.
Gunner: Side/Back crit. Fire away, spam stun bomb and the little rockets for easy KD.
Brawler: Front crit. Punch away and.... punch away.
Ninja: Back crit. Spam stun and decoy. Powerlink Glyph jagged path, double cut, skyfall.
Zerk: Back crit. USE DASH! Glyph Thunderstrike and cyclone for speed and power. And USE DASH!.... USE IT!
Slayer: Back crit. Learn to dodge through boss legs, chain all your stylish cuts, milk stuns with evades.
Archer: Side/back crit. Ranged stun trap + rain of arrows. Keep velik mark up always.
Mystic: Side/back crit. You have a thrall and three moves. 'nuff said. Edited crystals after test
Priest: Side/back crit. Implosion and tornado. Dance the rest of the fight. Edited crystals after test
Warrior: Front crit. Speed stack edge and scythe away.
Reaper: Back crit. Spacebar hero your way. You will do damage anyway.
Lancer: Front crit. Be extra aggressive. Don't block for longer than whatever attack is being tossed at you.
Sorc: Personally using front crit setup because I use celerity to empty all skills in less than 5 seconds. But wanna learn how to keep boss looking away while tossing firestorms. <.< Tuned weapon for CDR so I can keep firing skills nonstop.
IoD bams seem to have better defenses and crit resist if attacking from the front. So in general, unless your mobility lacks, try to always attack from behind. Side sees more crits than front, but I doubt the back crit crystals like Bitter work on side like the ranged Spiteful. I read somewhere that wrathful, the front crit crystal, also works on sides. But not sure myself. Need to read my crit numbers instead of just dismissing them as shiny blobs on my screen that just tell me I did more damage than usual.
As always. Not perfect tips. Perhaps won't work for some people, and maybe I can get better if I git gud myself. But hopefully these help someone.
Only do double back crit + enrage crit. I don't think most priest damage skills count as ranged, which makes the side crit crystal useless. I know they modified all sorc skills to count as ranged in an earlier patch, but never saw any mentions of priest skills. (Please correct me if I'm wrong here, because it would be nice if side crystal worked. :chuffed: I might actually do some testing to confirm it.)
Metamorphic Blast -> Final Reprisal reset spam does pretty good crit damage if used after a 40% boost from shocking implosion (even with the 25% boost without rare glyph or without boost it's still good). With double CDR rolls the bonus lasts until you can cast your next implosion so if the boss wishes to give you some backtime this really helps.
Use backstep / fiery escape to dodge through the boss as soon as he turns to make an attack to strike him in the back where it hurts.
Glad to hear(well read) from a more experienced priest. Mine is still only at low tier bams because lack of resources to enchant DN for all my characters. As I said, I have not tested well where exactly these new crystals can crit from. Or if there was an undocumented update to the old crystals. What if stuff like bitter and savage can crit from the side now as well? That'd solve many an issue.
With 100 percent, it would be too easy. You either get the keen or not, just have to deal with it either way and work for it.
I'm positive they can't.
They introduced the side crit crystal as a replacement for the bitter one (you can't use both at the same time), in order to reduce the dps loss for ranged classes when the boss decides to turn in the middle of their damage dealing. It never did much difference for gameplay though, since you still lose the 1.8 modifier to crit chance from hitting him in the back (so you'll crit a lot less) and the savage crystal is still back only.
I was just hopeful because I've read in a guide somewhere that wrathful, a crystal that specifically says is for front crit only, apparently works from the side too. Though maybe it's just what you experienced with starting an attack from wherever position the crystal activates and it's damage just rolling over as the enemy turns.
I never saw anything like that, but yes. It could be that they started the attack from the front and got the boost a while from the side. Or it could work from the side. Or the angle is just so forgiving it felt like they were hitting from the side. It sounds like something easily tested though. I'll add this to my testing list as well.
Just tested a few things on my priest. First. You are right. Spiteful won't work on most priest damage skills. It seems to only work on what's actually ranged. Need more testing on tornado because I couldn't crit with it at all, since I'm not on a crit build, but divine radiance benefited from Spiteful, while anything close ranged didn't. I assume then that Mystic is on the same boat, so it's better to just go full back crit on both classes, since both do have ways to have a lot of back time.
EDIT: Tornado doesn't benefit from spiteful either.
Great testing! Good to know it's confirmed.
