Guardian Missions, You and some Heavy Damage Taken.
I am making this thread because i am extremely curious to know more about the guardian bams since they hit so hard that sometimes i feel like being send back to the future.
What i want to say is that for example right now i have +7SC boots/gloves with +5SC chest and i am playing a Tank class called Brawler while at the same time i use bravery potion and i have even more damage reduction from etchings or smart dyads on weapon plus other sources.. So i am pretty much "stacked" ... But then for example i go to solo this retar.. ret.. retaliator CRAB that jumps once and takes half of my hit points then i go at Basilisk and this vortex takes me in much like a demented lover leaving me trashed on the ground so i go at other bams and they are as much as nast.. nice! Of course, ever since i am doing these bams my reflexes reached almost lighning speed and now i am blocking or dodging so i am not taking that much damage but even so i am unable to understand the meaning of gear when these bosses hit so hard anyway? I mean, i might as well go with my other brawler with +0frost armor and most likely do as good since it is all about blocking/dodging.
So what is the point of trying to improve on damage reduction when such bams hit so hard anyway? And i would not bother but this is the main income for gold these days..
Also, on another subject but somewhat related: why is a lancer able to remove 8/8 jackhamer that has 12% and add 1/3 debilitate that has 4%? There should be a priority there and especially since most of lancers take more than a minute to build 3/3 debilitate unless they forget and restart with another 1/3...

1/8 jackhammer = 1.5%
the real problem is 3x debilitate takes much longer than 8x jackhammer since jackhammer hits 8 times by one casting, but debilitate requires actual 3+ (sometimes boss resists) casts. That's very old issue that people (mostly lancer users) have asked.
For guardians, I understand how you feels. But I think you can earn more contribution by doing Bastion/Tria missions (which are blue mission) than doing crab/basilisk missions since most people prioritize blue mission which means there are more people in bastion/tria mission. Indeed, bastion/tria mission Bosses are less toxic than basilisk/crab. They still have some hard-attacks, but it's way more straightforward and easier to block/dodge than toxic tornado(basilisk) and spheres(crab).
Anyway, I somewhat agree with you. Basilisk and Crab are pretty toxic to players compared to dreadreaper and vehemos. Basil/Crab are smaller size guardian mission than Blue ones, but they are more toxic.
Exactly. Just came back after 2 years away and these guardian missions sort of remind me of the old Nexus days only obviously far more frequent. There's always large pubs on the blue missions and are fun and quick.
I also thought about that. This is for party/raid purposes.
But healers are main dps and almost nobody wants or bothers to heal because they simply lose points from doing that and even like that they need to form or join a party/raid because they cannot see the HP of players and most of non lock on spells do not even heal/shield like for example the puddle or kaia from priest that from my point of view should at least heal/shield non party players at guardians ( i am also confused as of why healers do not get contribution points from healing even though at a lesser rate than their dps counterpart ).
Also, many times i end up soloing because there are not enough players online or they are simply too spread and my curiosity is why a bam hits as hard when i am soloing compared to when there are 5-15 players around? Shouldn't there be a scale on damage done from bams from a minimum up to a maximum based on how many players are in the area?
p.s. i did play some four years ago with forty players in a raid and i do not remember nexus being like this
The main problem is indeed the lack of tanks who can actually take some aggro instead of makin' the boss spin around, that's what's truly boring and makes you lose contribution; the reaper, for example, goes totally [filtered] w/o some1 keeping its aggro, swiping every 2 secs.
The reason why you take set %'s of damage, and are forced to dodge/block/iframe is so that there won't be a million botting brawlers running a script.
It's the same reason you can't get contribution from healing, because then there would just be a million mystics afking spamming totems, 24/7/365.
You can't be afk and get good contribution.
This must be the case because i kept looking and it seemed that my undergeared alts were getting hit by the same numbers as my geared main ( for example 25k damage per ball at the escape from quest ). And with this said it might actually be better to use HP Niveots.
Did you even read what i have just said above? My point was that the bosses hit so hard that they can almost two shot me as a tank regardless of gear and at this point i am kinda starting to not understand the point of having good armor anymore .. I mean, what is the point to improve the armor so much to spend even 1.5mil worth of gold when these bams do many times x3 special attacks one after another in under 8sec completely denying i-frames cooldowns with each attacking taking 25% up to 50% HP or even more depending on crits? Also, you seem to be unaware but the brawlers/lancers have the lowest gain bonus for contribution points out of everyone while they do so much in return for other players when tanking/providing back crits/debuffs for other classes and trust me that you need to work hard as a tank to get the quests done ( i am already seeing less tanks around by the way and it is no wonder since the other classes get more points for less gear and less effort ).
And i can understand that bots should be destroyed on sight because they can ruin games in so many ways ( BNS left me speechless ) but then again why do i get hit almost as hard with +7stormcry armor compared to a bot with +0 guardian?
Lancers actually have a decent contribution bonus, played right they can be right under DPS Healers (especially if played in back-crit setup, which of course spins the boss around and can cause issues, but some bosses aren't even tanked anyways so people would be used to it).
As mentioned previously most of the attacks are HP % based meaning you'll take roughly the same damage regardless of your armor, more so if you have more hp modifiers on your gear. The Blue Legion Mission bosses have really easy to dodge attacks (aside from the fireballs during the Bastion Mission which can go in random areas), much more easier than the Crab's attacks imo. I usually just spam the two Blue missions, swapping to the next channel when the current channel is finished and I find it much quicker and less painful then doing the green missions.
The point of the content is to farm gems, to upgrade your armor for actual pve and pvp content, not braindead solo content.
Then don't go on tank? If you aren't happy with your contribution as tank go on DPS? I use both my +7 SC brawler, My +2 SC lancer, and a +0 FM brawler. All can stay alive 100% of the time on every mission. I don't see the issue. It's not hard content.
Because the deadly attacks are HP % based. It is not meant to be quality difficult content. It is meant to assist you in gaining gems and enchantment materials. You are making it out to be more than what it is.
Thank you for all the replies ^^
I can't stand tanking guardian missions, though. I always hear people complaining about the lack of good tanks there, and that makes sense imo since tanking with 9 fps against 20+ people in stormcry is bad enough, but doing it basically without a healer to patch you up or restore your mana is just absolute dogshit. Brawlers get lucky there; they can attack and block at the same time. Every other tank class really really has to pay attention and play extremely carefully while maintaining high dps without any true party support to back them up and it just isn't fun at all imo. And then even when you're doing just fine and getting into a rhythm, some other tank will walk up and shout to steal aggro and then you have to deal with that [filtered].
Didn't mean to go on that tangent. I just think since guardian missions encourage team play, they should reward more than just raw dps. Healers should get rewards based on assists like in FWC, so that tanks don't feel like they have zero support when they have to hold threat against a beastly squad of dps in BiS gear. inb4 "but just healing is boring" then why are you maining a healer holy [filtered]
You shouldn't have problem with any guardian mission at low ping because they are very straightforward just not facetankable.
Oh and Tanks have an increased guardian point gain compared to DPS afaik, in fact I have more success getting boxes on my tanks than on my DPS.
This.
Yea people were supposed to work together, and you're supposed to get heals.
Except you don't because no one would bother. Hell I don't even bother healing myself, if i get too low I just pot, why waste time to heal when you can dps and get rank 1 and 8 boxes.
Brawler's jackhammer skill doesn't stack with lancer's debilitate. It's always been like that for a really long time, just like how they made it with mystic and priest. I believe it was done so you can't have both debuffs together or it would be too op for double tank parties. So the way I have seen it for a long time, lancer's debilitate overrides the jackhammer skill. It also overrides the warrior's traverse cut. Much of these changes were made many patches ago.
