i just noitced today that could buy these boxes or glyph ticket things with my token credits while leveling.
I didnt even realize we were going to have to get/buy new glyphs.
So, how exactly does this system work?
I get 'upgraded' glyphs? or unlock new ones?
can i just go ahead and choose whatever ones i want with these tokens?
i was about to activate one and it warned me it would be replacing the one i currently had or something.
in general, like what do i need to know here. thanks.
Now, again, you get the common (white) ones from leveling up. The uncommon (green) ones you have to get from glyph boxes or tokens. They can be either upgrades to existing common ones (in which case you get the upgrade dialog) or they can unlock a new glyph (in which case you don't get a dialog when you right-click the glyph item in your inventory). The rare (blue) glyphs are pretty much a repetition of the green ones. Mainly upgrades, a few that are only unlocked.
Some glyphs have all three versions, white, green, and blue. You can skip the green version there, if you so desire (and have the blue version available). You can neither access the lower quality version after an upgrade, nor can you apply a lower quality upgrade if you already have a higher one. That is part of why you have that dialog, though it honestly feels more like some legacy of the time where glyphs were single use items, rather than unlocks, so applying over an existing version actually destroyed something, as it were. But really, it's just that you will no longer have the common version available for use if you apply an uncommon over it. The same for the rare. The system will only let you use the best version that you have. (Green version items will simply be grayed out/appear red, if you have the Blue version of the glyph, whereas if you have the matching quality version in a duplicate it should list Already acquired in the item description. At least this was the case in the past, I have not checked recently if this behavior still matches.)
If you hover over the glyph it will show you all versions of it. It will also note if it has been unlocked. (Since this is in a thread about the console version, I think I saw that it just lists out the options there in the detail panel as you go over the skill list.)
You want to have the best version of each glyph that you can. (Or at least the ones that you actually use in your build.) Some builds even only work if you have the proper rare glyphs, due to point costs being lower with them. As well as certain glyphs even being only available in uncommon or rare versions. Thus the need to get the master (rare) glyphs.
Rare (blue) glyphs are available through either Plunder Boxes, the mid-tier (and up) Guardian Legion vendor, the Dawnstorm tokens. The Plunder Boxes are random and also will give you the green glyphs, so if you go down that path then you'll likely get duplicates (especially if you bought all of the green ones available via tokens.) Guardian Legion and Dawnstorm offer you to outright buy specific glyphs. Plunder Boxes can be bought via Dawnfall tokens (mid-tier Island of Dawn vanguard rewards). There are also a few other options to acquire them, but those aren't really grindable.
The uncommon (green) glyphs are available from various glyph boxes, the tokens that you already seem to have found, and also as direct buys from the same sources as the rare glyphs. (A select few might only be available from the RNG boxes.)
Builds put out in the various guides always will assume that you have all of your glyphs. If you don't then you will have higher costs and thus be unable to replicate it in its entirety. (Or outright be missing certain glyphs.)
Timely acquisition of Rare glyphs requires you to have reached at least mid-tier (Twistshard) gear ilvl. Or to get the necessary tokens with another character. (Please keep in mind that certain (tokens, glyphs, boxes) cannot be banked, if you go down that route, so double-check before just buying those on another character.)
You can get a starting point by just using left-over LX tokens from the leveling vanguards to buy the glyph tokens for your class, if you just want a mostly full set of green glyphs for your class upon reaching level 65, and don't want to grind Sabex Armory/Macellarius Catacombs dungeon for their glyph crates. These are the same as what you can buy from the vanguard quartermaster.
