If you want to know if you are the lagger you should open CMD and tracert to diag.enmasse.com. If theres a huge latency difference in the beginning which is 1-3 for me then the issue is somewhere within the local network. If theres one near the end/middle then lag is caused by one of the internet exchange points. In my case I could pinpoint the lag was caused by a transit point from zayo which I was told to use vpn from support with proof shown.

If the problem is from your side then you need some techsavy to take a look at your network. It could be caused by many things such as bad cheap modem/router. Double/tripple firewall from modem+router+software, electrical interference on network cable which I had in the past that caused my network to dc every 10 minutes. Can be quite expensive task to fix them.

and I did a hardworking to pay for my good ping like everyone else can do as well, right! Do not expect good stuff for a low price like an old PC running Tera in 4K. There is a specific equipment for everything, you do not need to buy the best one but check that one can supply your necessity, as I did. For example, my internet now is 100MB, I could go for 500MB? Yes, but just to improve almost nothing my ping for 3 times more in the bill? No thanks. Balance what you can, put in a paper, search, get more info and you will see that there are solutions for a bit more.
We cannot make a Ferrari a rally car. Internet is a combination of many components where if one is not ok everything else will not work properly.

    Let’s be realist.

If you do not want to spend money initially, try to talk with the provider, make some tests, change the route with your provider, ask them for another better modem, maybe they have something specify for games with their equipment/technology. Try read some tutorials in the internet about modems, links, ping, ethernet, how to improve your ping/link, try to check how people succeed it to have a good ping.

Please note: I was not able to post everything together that's why I create a new post.

I get you better now. It was honestly pretty badly worded and resumable in just "fork out, you're screwed", and while I do know as well that there is much that could be improved on some cases by literally upgrading the possible parts, that's not the case on that specific situation, hence I called it counter productive on a... possibly too pissed way, and by the uncalled trigger I apologize, it's just that there's been too much of this case so I just lumped it together.

Now to keep the productive parts of that: all the stuff I tried have shown same or worse results. Upgrading ISP modem is something only the ISPs can do here other than the few remaining ADSL links, since it's tied to specific authorization codes to avoid tapping the line for piracy of the connection, and sadly whenever they change the modem it's always the exact same ping. The physical distance does make the 180ms a normal and expected condition tho, the upload speeds didn't seem to neither increase or decrease the ping (when I started TERA I had a 10Mb/s down, 1Mb/s up link), only the change to a mobile connection changed it very slightly (which is to be expected considering it's gonna be a different routing to the mobile operator and then forward). Wifi vs cable has been tested as well, heck on some slower torrent upload moments I can leave it on and it doesn't affect it.

The OP's issue is very clearly some routing issue that happens on specific times, jumping ping considerably. That's probably sadly out of anyone's control other than VPN to change the routing (which I do not bet alllll that much in decreasing it, rather an increase but constant ping without that fluctuation). Heck En Masse barely can fix the issue for NA player let alone South America ones...

Adding to that, yes I've had pretty bad experiences with double/triple firewall on routers. I don't understand why they even have them turned on to be fair since it's so bad it's barely better than nothing, if not worse.

Disabling every single firewall on a router can help a lot, my issues with this were not the sudden increase of ping during certain times of the day, but rather fully disconnect out of the blue, to the point I couldn't play anything in TERA. Barely running on open world was possible.

This is thankfully possible with most operator modems as well, even if they'll not tell you how to do it or do it for you. You'll just have to find the device's manual online to see which is the configuration page IP (usually 192.168.0.1) and what combination of user and password you need, which may be written at the bottom of the machine as well on some sticker.
I leave the connection security always up to the devices. Mobile devices nowadays have enough of it and so does a PC, the router there is just screwing things up most of the time.
  • I cannot say much more to improve the ping I believe there are more steps but it's good as well to find out at google.
Like, VPN, windows configuration, regedit, ip configuration, etc. as I said it can works for some people but for me it never works never even.
As you can see up, disable the firewalls, antivirus and try out. Also another software can be running in the background and causing a conflict with Tera, it cannot be discarded.

I do not remember Tera server IP address right now but you can trace in windows CMD to see the route has been taken.

By the way just for an extra info, I had asked some friends and one of them use a very good modem that can be configure for specific online games and Tera is in the list. It improved his ping from Europe to NA from 130 ~ 170 to 115 ~ 145.

I recommend to try every single option like up from the guys and be "VERY" patience because it takes a "lot" of time, like a lot. Maybe you can improve or even find a solution but needs to test every single option.

We can stay here during days posting steps, videos, etc. and you can succeed or not.

I will leave 3 questions for you:

    1. What kind configuration, app installed, etc you have done so far?
    2. It looks ridiculous but, have you check if your Wifi/Ethernet driver is up to date? My wife had this problem and we solve like this!
    3. Your current modem has been updated (firmware)?

It can be weird but it's easy to do, fast, do not need spend money and you do not need to be a engineer to perform it.
I'm very perfectionist related to lag once I had this demon in my house.

For most people, it's *probably* not their DNS. DNS could have some impact in a few cases, but it's not like the game is constantly sitting there doing DNS lookups once you're connected (or if it is, there's something wrong). So sure, it's one thing to try, but probably it won't help for most people.

    Indeed Counter.
But please try, as I said, every single configuration is valid for you!

Hello all Brazilian players and everyone else,

The internet speed of 4MB will impact unfortunately in your ping.
The topic "lag" is very complicate to solve it and I fought with your enemy lag for 1 year.

Here 3 steps I did that solve my lag issue.

    1. Internet at least 100MB (fibre if is possible);
    2. Very good modem (I got one 5G and 2GB transfer through cable). Modems from the internet companies mostly are limited and it's not enough in almost all cases if you are using it for "games".
    3. Make sure you have a Ethernet connection of 1GB, most of the laptop or motherboard bring a trash one, sometimes still with Ethernet 100, so you limited with 100 MB internet by the cable. You can buy a USB converter. Avoid wifi if it's not 5G.

There is no "miracle", really. You can configure your regedit, Windows stuff, software to reduce the ping (this is the worse) and none will solve the case and does not change anything, fly with a dragon at midnight, kill a vampire with garlic, whatever. Nothing can change the distance you are from the server + bad internet!

If you do not put your hands on the pocket no way to solve "ping issue".

I would say more, Enmasse is very nice to analyse so many cases with Ping issue but for those 3 steps is the only solution.

    I'm also from Brazil.
My internet is 100mb, fiber... I've switched from companies several times (so I have used different peripherals such as modems and cables as King has mentioned above), i've dealt with several internet speeds as well - 5mb, then 15, then 10, and now, 100mb (fiber). My best ping was during the time when I had the 5mb internet which OBVIOUSLY isn't the reason why my ping was better, given that it was years ago.
I've been having lag issues since VM7 patch hit - SSHM/DS3 patch - (my ping before was around 170. Then it went up to 250, and after that, it hasn't been playable since. Always 300-400+ and the spikes are terrible) the last patch I remember of being able to actually play as a dps and do a decent amount of damage was the VM6 - FIHM/DS2 patch. Ever since VM7 it's gone to [filtered].

And the issue is all day long, night time does not affect any more than any other time of the day does. Before, during the early morning and the late night, it'd be a bit better, but then it didn't matter anymore.

I have thought that it could be my laptop even, but today I have a desktop setup, completely different computer, and it all remains the same.
So, NOPE, the chances of it being your internet's fault are extremely slim compared to being the servers' fault. It is, for sure, the routes fault. And it's been this ridiculous mess for a really long time, so don't raise your hopes and expectations, really. Either get used to it or don't play at all like most of people do these days lol.

Since we're from South America and we're not part of their playerbase, technically, there isn't much we can do or complain about, so I have tried several VPNs as well but the only one that actually worked was mudfish. it isn't free, though. but it is extremely worth it if you think tera is worth it. it ends my spike lag and my ping goes from 400-spikes to 180 stableish. I'm sure it'll work for you and your friends as well, you should give it a try.
As I mentioned before, we're not from North America, given that, whatever their planned routes are, they aim for a better service for NA players and yet, even the NA players have been, in your majority, complaining of lag for a while.

Said all that, I wish you goodluck, I've given up a while ago, but it isn't exclusively because of the lag though, so I hope you figure it out and keep having fun playing.
