The NEW Sushi Loot Boxes

Has anyone gambled with the sushi boxs? What's your luck on getting one of the mounts?

Comments

  • I haven't myself but I've seen a few people get lucky with them today
  • Mount odds are legitimately around 25% on any box, on rare occasions 2 of the choices may be mounts.

FWIW, and to avoid any disappointment/confusion... there's no guarantee to be a mount behind one of the "doors", and the odds of most lootboxes are considerably less than 25%. There's no way to know what they are exactly without data (and console might be different from PC), but on PC I'd estimate that the odds are probably closer to 3% (higher if the box is more expensive). I would very much like if they would post the odds and implement a failure cap on all loot boxes.
  • Since launch i have opened more or less 50 gachapon box.
    Nothing gained so far

Mounts are one of the higher chance things along with weapon smartboxes. Even when there isn't a mount you are just unlucky that one box, there aren't a significant number of possibilities in mount boxes so the chance of getting a mount in the mix is very high, leading to a technical probability of 25% on most boxes.

25% isn't the overall chance of getting the mount, just the base chance when it is one of the rewards. Which is far better than most MMOs.

It's flying mounts (the good ones) and limited edition fashion that have terribad roll chances. Usually you're better off buying the Account Wide mount you really want, it's cheaper most of the time.

Then again, given that it's very easy to buy mounts off other people, that can save you so much money in the long run. A good endgame grind can get you enough Gold to buy 3-4 mounts easily every day, even expensive/rare ones. Even more if you're dedicated.
  • How could it be 25% when there is only 2 options.

    A: You get Mount
    B: You don't get Mount

    Which means the odds are
    1. 50:50
    2. Fiddy Fiddy

On a more realistic note, I can't image that the odds of pulling a mount are the same as pulling a lower tier item like arcane supplies. 25% seems like a highly inflated estimate. At those odds @Minardi should have pulled 12.5 mounts, to which they attest acquiring Zero/Zilch/Nada. The odds of hitting 50 duds on a 25% gamble are like hitting the State lottery in reverse.

But just to be clear, the amount of items in the loot pool doesn't determine the odds either. It's not like "there are 6 items in the pool, so your chance is 1/6" or something. The lootbox has a loot table and each item has a probability to appear. For example, it could be like this:

    3% Chase Item
    15% Consumable A
    27% Consumable B
    20% Consumable C
    20% Consumable D
    15% Consumable E

(totally made-up example; it's actually way more complicated because typically the different consumables also come in varying quantities too)

Any time you open a lootbox, regardless of what box you choose, the chance is the same according to these odds.

It may well be that the mount loot boxes have higher odds than some of the other boxes; we'd have to start gathering lots of stats to try to figure out what the rate actually is. But I doubt it is anywhere near 25% at all -- otherwise it'd be way cheaper than direct-buy on average. Lootbox items in TERA are all "rares."

If you are actually getting 25% win rates on lootboxes in TERA... well, I have some lottery tickets I'd like you to pick for me. :p

(Just to be clear, my saying all this is just so that people go into it with their eyes wide open. Over the years I've seen way too many people rage-quit F2P/gacha games because they spent too much money and didn't get what they wanted. Manage your expectations and your budget, and you'll stay happy. At least in TERA, there's nearly always a direct-buy version, and there's always the broker if your luck runs out. I know a lot of people who let other people do the risky work, while they just farm the gold to buy it from them.)
  • For an actual practical demonstration of odds:

We all know that every person's individual "luck" will determine how they fare against probability, believe in Luck or not, it affects every person individually whether you like it or not.

In the 15-20 years I have played MMOs I have never pulled a Legendary/Mythic item from an RNG situation in another game. Never. Not even once. My luck is pure garbage against low probability chance.

For the sake of argument we'll consider mounts the "Legendary" pull from Mount boxes.

So what is my best pull ever in 1 day?

666 Mount boxes (was feeling satanic, lol). ~500 Mounts, closer to 530 but I don't remember the exact number. There is no way someone with luck as terribad as mine could pull that without the odds being highly favorable. I ran out of space for the mount tomes so I had to take multiple breaks to move them around between characters.

If there is a mount in the pull, you have 25% chance minimum to obtain it. The chance of loading a mount into the pull is of course lower but it happens so often that it's almost pointless to care about.

Wait, are you saying this occurred in TERA Console since early access or launch?

If so, which specific box was it? (One of the sushi cat boxes?) And are you on PS4 or XB1?
  • I got it in 3 pulls just picking the first option on each

I've only seen the orange and the black/white you can purchase from the emp store but how do you get the grey kitty? The bento box has got 4 different versions (hearty, spring, claw, noble) but I'm assuming they all the same color but with hp mp regen skill?

The grey cat is in the TERA Item Pack.

And yeah, hearty, spring, claw, noble refer to the different HP/MP regen effects. Noble is usually the best version.
