Does the game have basic sets still?

Last time I came back I got the armor sets you could buy with rep and that was perfectly adequate to do most of the basic dungeons and stuff. A basic catch up set.

Does the game still have that or are returnees expected to regear before they can do anything?

  • If you do the story quest in Island of Dawn you are given a complete set of the new basic gear as well as materials to help enchant it.

I'm guessing you're referring to Fulminate, which was the last of the unenchantable basic gear sets (they went back to using idoneal as the absolute basic gear). As JoHighnes mentioned above, you should head to IOD to claim your set of Dreadnaught gear from the quests they give you. It's basically the ambit/wroth of this patch and will suffice for most basic dungeons.

You get Idoneal after 65 by just talking to Dougal in Highwatch. An island of dawn quest will give you a full set of Dreadnaught gear(unenchanted), ship accessories for your class, and some enchanting materials(enough for a single piece with enough luck).

There's nothing else, nor any unenchantable Dreadnaught equivalent.
