Just a little PSA for Slayers regarding Savage Strike

Hi I'm posting this just in case there's people who don't know yet, and also because there's no actual class guide post-awakening.

Even though it's not listed in the skill description, Blazing ThrustSavage Strike chains into your usual combo skills, which are Overhand Strike, Eviscerate, Measured Slice, and Decimate.
Also, after using the first strike of Blazing ThrustSavage Strike, you will be animation locked unless you chain into the skills stated above (or Unsheathe) first, or use the second strike to remove the animation lock.

Hope this helps someone and have a good day.

  • Wasn't aware of this thanks. Outside of unsheathe I've been primarily using both strikes of the ability to reduce the cd on decimate.

    Hi, noob slayer here:

I don't see "Blazing Thrust" anywhere in my skill list.

Also... what skill is "Decimate" ....?

@Rassei Glad it helped someone. It's useful for when you know that you can't back hit a target, so you make full use of the "treats all hits as hits from the rear" buff that Blazing Thrust provides to attack from the side or front and still count as a back hit.

@CassandraTR If you haven't awakened your slayer, it should still appear as a greyed out skill in your skill tab/list.

    @Haloist

I awakened my slayer on the first day. I do not have those skills. I have these skills: https://imgur.com/a/XrIdM5V

  • Haven't gotten to apex slayer yet so i'll find out eventually. But does that mean that you can cast part 1 of blazing thrust chain OHS then part 2 then OHS again?
  • @CassandraTR He was probably referencing the translations on EM which are incorrect according to live servers on NA ie. Blazing Thrust=Savage Strike and Decimate=Punishing Blow.

@LaVolpi Yes that's exactly what that means. You can cast any skill in between the first and second strikes of Savage Strike as long as you use Savage Strike within 5 seconds of the first Strike.

Yes that's what I was referencing since I don't play on NA anymore.

As for how long you should wait till you cast the 2nd strike, I've read somewhere on the Tera subreddit that the "count all hits as from the rear" buff only gets refreshed after the invisible 4 second timer for the buff has expired, so it's not advisable to cast the 2nd strike too soon unless you're in a hurry or the situation forces you to.

I'm assuming that If you aren't having any problems staying behind a boss, bar certain fights/mechanics It's better to use both strikes to further reduce the cooldown on Decimate/Punishing Blow. I guess it's pretty situational.
  • I use savage strike as movement skill. I noticed that it works similiar to backstep, except its not an i-frame and more of a movement skill.
So if the boss turn toward me, i will savage strike > unsheathe if off CD/ ohs/ eviscerate. And when the boss turn again, i use backstab.
I dont use the second strike of savage strike tho..

Is it wrong to use savage strike that way.. I just awakened my slayer like 2 days ago..

I probably wouldn't use it as a movement skill since it has 2 pretty big components that impact your dps. It allows you to get rear attacks if you aren't able to stay behind the boss at all times whether it's a mechanic or your tank is having issues with aggro, The other perk is that each time you hit with savage strike it reduces the cooldown on Punishing blow by 1 second, 2 seconds max if you hit with savage strike twice which obviously lets you get off more punishing blows and considering punishing blow's damage is so high, you want to have as much uptime on it as possible. Considering the base damage on PB is over 9000 damage It's one of our hardest hitting abilities next to MS and Unsheathe. I wouldn't use it as a movement ability unless absolutely necessary.

@Rassei Yes that's what I meant, since there are situations whereby you know the boss is turning towards you, so you can choose to use Savage Strike's 1st hit to instantly "teleport" behind it, but since you also want to land the 2nd hit to reduce cd of Punishing Blow yet can't do that without dashing to the front/side of the boss again, you would have to either hit from the side after the 2nd hit or use Backstab or some movement skill to get to the back again.

@TheCatalyst Like what Rassei has mentioned, you should be landing both hits of Savage Strike to increase usage of Punishing Blow.
  • Have u tried it? Its really hard tho.

I tried it by starting it first with:
eviscerate > overhand strike > measured slice > punishing blow

To see if it could fit on the next one:
ht/kds/ww > savage strike > eviscerate > overhand strike > measure slice > punishing blow > savage strike > overhand strike

Doable but.. ping dependent, and might need some cd reduction somewhere..
The problem with savage strike is that it doesnt turn the camera, like backstab, so have to aim manually.
I havent tested it with boss in dungeon, but with iod bam i missed eviscerate after savage strike.. alot...
    :anguished:
  • Many thanks for this! It is much appreciated. <3

It's also not true what is written there about back dmg, both first and second cast give you about 5 sec each of back dmg. Effect doesn't end when you press it second time, it gets refreshed,
