In the interest of full disclosure the Scarf in question has the following stats:
Increases Max Hp by 600
Increases Max MP by 200
And yes, there is also a version that has no stats.
Secondly, modest stats on a costume now might be a precursor to more essential stats such as power or crit factor on cosmetics. Since there's already an hp scarf, perhaps they'd add a power or crit scarf. And of course those will end up cash shop exclusive, like the 2.0 crit power mounts. This makes the game more pay-to-win and also creates a situation where you have to choose between having the best stats, or being able to look pretty and unique. It will destroy people's originality with costumes, limit character customization, and just overall will degrade the experience for everyone playing this game.
No one wins from stat cosmetics.
It's in the best interest of the playerbase to fight this.

_This is the exact mentality that both kills games and the mentality that corporate heads love from their customers. I respect your point, but I can't for the life of me agree to it one bit. Sorry. And the whole "or quit" thing? Much worse. Not how customers should handle products. This just generates lack of competition, lack of company improvement and also fosters stagnant monopolies. Not good for World progress at all.
all.=================================================================================================================
My response to that statement being my mentality is incorrect, because that statement is not my mentality. It was just an honest opinion of how BH looks at and listens to the N/A player base.So let me be perfectly clear, I totally agree that punting stats on cosmetics is a bad ideal in my opinion, but as a counter point opinion, Elite players get an in-game advantage over non-elite players so that's fine, also players that use pots/nocts/ etc. get an advantage over players that don't use them, same with players who have crit/dragon and those that don't, my point is that there will always be players in MMORPG's that will get some-kind of advantage justified/fair or not and i just don't see the point in whining about it. And again let me be clear about my mentality here, I have played this game for over 5yrs. and in the beginning i also supported this game financially with Elite/EMP etc., because BH/Eme cared about & listened to their N/A players and you could tell by their respect/words/actions and we probably got a little spoiled by that TBH , and i really did love this game back in the day, and I still do love some aspects of this game that's why I still play it. But as BH/Eme changed and the effect on this game so did my mentality. as it is right know I will not support this game financially like in the past , because I won't give BH not one red-cent of my R/L money, also I'm not saying that other players that do that are wrong because they do, I just won't do that anymore because i don't believe they deserve that from me anymore. BH doesn't listen/respect/care about it's N/A players anymore and are only focused on their Korean players and it's all about sucking as much cash from N/A as they can. Also because Eme has no impact or sway with BH like they once did, and honestly I'm not really sure if Eme really still gives [email protected] anymore event though that's just my opinion. So when you said company's like players like me, honesty they really hate players like me, because I won't give them real money if i don't think they respect me or my opinion or my years of loyalty. Also i wasn't telling players to quit, but i was just saying that you have the right to Rant/Vent/Whine if you chose, but if you think that will change anything that BH does or will decide to do in the future you are mistaking, because for that to happen BH would have to give 2sh$ts about what N/A players think, and everything they have done and everything they will or will not do proves that our opinion is completely irrelevant to them, and the only available option is to deal with it or just walk away a go play other MMORPG and hope that the devs who make that game still listen/care about what their players think. TERA was like that in the past but the past is long gone and I don't see a return to the old glory days unfortunately. But I'm still here grinding away and dealing with all the BS like everyone else, So how other players deal with stuff is always fine with me so no offense meant.
600hp: Not gonna save you from attacks that deal thousands of damage and kill you in a single shot
200MP: Have you seen how fast some classes run out of mana regardless of whatever boost you may give em? Example: Lancer
In PvP, this stats wont help you at all either, so you are not getting an upper hand over the others for having an exclusive item fashion item with stats that will be handed only once.
First it was "EME please, allow us to have more ways to obtain the scarf, my time zone sucks and you too because you dont make events on my time zone"
Now is this? "EME please, remove the stats on the scarf! is P2W! And it means that there will be more!"
Or is it that some of you are already salty that you wont be able to get your ohh so powerful game breaker scarf with stats that do not help you at all to be a better player? What have we become? the CoD community?
Don't get me wrong, i am all 100% against the distribution of power in the shop. But to already assume and confirm that a scarf with stats that don't even give you an edge over other players, will open the doors to more stat based cosmetics that will break the game, Its just absurd to me.
Heck, not even the innerwears that are sold in the shop are that all amazing. I have yet to see 2 equally geared and skilled players, duel and the one with the stronger innerwear winning, because duhh, "i bought my shiny innerwear that i paid 200 dollars worth of loot boxes, and now i am more powerful than you"
Not even those stats on innerwear can make you a better player. If the item in question doesnt give you the upper hand on the battlefield, then you cannot even begin to call it P2W, let alone selling power. And the mounts? As if you can use 2.0 crit buffs in PvP.
And now, a scarf with stats that do not appeal the current meta, is released and people are already this salty?
I wonder what will be of this community in the future if we keep whining about every single thing.
Seen your name around and I like and respect a bunch of your posts. So I'll try to explain my point in the most exalted manner I can.
I'm definitely not whining about 200 mp. I'm alerting, and will keep alerting every time such a thing happens, that there's a line that shouldn't be crossed with those. If the next cosmetic gives also 500 HP, It's also a minor thing. If BHS makes it clear that they will never ever use the cash shop to sell power, then all this issue will stay in the past and everyone will be happy. But as I said before. What if people stay silent and they decide to go up? What if in the future and after a dozen or so 500 HP cosmetics they drop a rng box with something having substantial power and crit factor stats? Would they be good and remove the item after the outcry? Or will it stay in the market and finally drop the game into the p2w vat other games have fallen?
Sure, maybe some fights are to be fought when the enemy is at the door, but I still strongly believe that some fair warning should be posted before that even happens.
Here's the fine print:
It is unfortunate but our community will simply whine and complain about everything. I clearly remember this same thing happened when the first set of innerwears was released. People went all out and started to claim that the game was going full P2W shop (even when they were available through in game methods, but had different looks) The innerwears were tested, and was proved the impact of innerwears on gameplay was hardly noticeable to be called P2W. The topic was left and now we live normally in the game with the Innerwears still in the shop.
Now that an item with worse stats is being released, people are acting the same and even worse than when the innerwears or crit mounts were released. Perhaps because this is an exclusive item that will only be available once? Or because they dont want to make the effort to get it through the anniversary events and instead, want it handed down like the wings of the 5th anniversary?
There is nothing wrong with fair warnings, in fact, by talking to an EME employee through discord to fix something for my account, i took the opportunity to give him feedback, and he was of the same mind as we the players: RNG sucks, Loot boxes suck, stat based cosmetics suck. So that gives me to believe that the employees at EME do not do anything for just doing it. There is a big papa here, called BHS, and EME decisions are sadly tied to what BHS says.
What i say is that some people are already going as far as to confirm that the event is rigged, that the release of this scarf will be the opening for more stat based cosmetics, and are even confirming it without doubt in their words.
Just look at this guy here
https://forums.enmasse.com/tera/discussion/25728/tera-event#latest
Maybe clickbait? yeah probably, but it still gives me to think what does the community really want.
To be honest, just from watching the anniversary event calendar, this year seems to be much more active and filled with more prizes than the last year. And yet some people are already calling it quits. I do not understand that part of our community.
Now, there's a tiny difference between the Innerwear, the dragons and the scarf. Innerwear and dragons can be earned in game. All of the possible stats can be obtained by playing the game. Even if the window to obtain them is realistically low, they are there. This scarf, it will be also free to those who can get it, but a similar thing won't be available after this event ends. Now again, I'm not complaining because the stats are pretty much a joke, but I still feel that we cannot drop our guard.
The Korean version of Devilian (as well the Thai version which was the same version except localized) had stats on the cosmetic items. The stats on each item by themselves wasn't a big deal but as you equipped different cosmetics, it could end up making a difference. For those more interested in the appearance of cosmetics, they naturally could not use certain cosmetics in a slot all the time because it didn't have the preferred stat (since each cosmetic item had a specific set of stats associated with them). The game also lacked any sort of transmog feature or ability to migrate such stats to other cosmetic items (like the system that XLGames created for ArcheAge).
When the game was brought over to NA/EU, one of the biggest feedback/request from early play testers during the alpha was the complete removal of the stat system from those cosmetic items. The base rationale for that was to have cosmetic items as just that, cosmetics where you didn't have to use specific ones (at end game) if you were a min/maxer. The other was also pre-emptive considering the publisher (Trion Worlds) had this tendency towards marketplace cash grabs (and stats on cosmetics presented a potential vector for them to use down the road if the play testers did not make it clear they would not support a game that left in the parts of the game that worked in Asia, but could be seen as being construed as p2w by the target demographic.
To make a long story short, this sort of feedback loop early on resulted in what amounted to a version of the game that ended up being a different fork from the Korean version since the NA/EU version had a lot of the potential p2w systems as well as item destruction on failed enchant mechanics completely removed (on top of a lot of quality of life improvements plus streamlining of the consumables the game dropped when it came to potion buffs and equipment enchanting/refining materials). That was actually one of the first Korean MMO's I played which differed so drastically from the original (since most times, Korean development teams will not make that much design/system changes for another region).
Myself, the stats on the 6th anniversary scarf isn't that big of a deal since it's trivial. But out of preference, I'd prefer that cosmetics not have any stats at all such that it doesn't end up potentially going down that slippery slope.
I hope so because last year anniversary was a failure.
You could still wear anything you wanted while being afk, and we do see a lot of players afk often enough.
Also, these scarves aren't tradeable. The crit mounts as stupid p2w as they are, are tradeable. I guess most people's fears are that untradeable stat cosmetics will make it onto the cash shop store eventually, even if they're being given out as a freebie for this event.
The same people who didn't like the p2wness of the crit mounts don't want any MORE of that crap.
to make it known, or reminded, some of us also had an issue with stat enhancing mounts. We were not OK with it, and I would be happy if their stat boosts were removed. But that won't happen. And the stat on this new cosmetic won't be removed either. But since I suppose I'm in a minority here between three opinions (those who don't want these, those who want them, and those who totally don't care), we are limited to simply keep the warning up.
