Unexplained/Forced removal of TERA letters from bank?

As the title says. Logged in today (haven't logged in for about 2-3 days) after hearing about how they're using the TERA letters for another anniversary event - I'd kept a few from the last one since the last event gave out the lioness mount and I had that already.
Moments ago I was informed by a friend that his TERA letters had disappeared from his bank. I promptly logged on to discover mine were also missing from my bank.

This is disappointing for a number of reasons, but I'm sure I'll get a fair amount of responses saying "Well why should you have a headstart on the event", and to that I'd probably agree with you to an extent. I personally just planned on using the singular token I'd probably be getting just to check out the new armours, but there could be individuals who could just buy everything that they wanted from the event on the first day if they'd saved up enough letters. Not like it'd flood the market since nothing is tradeable, but still.

However, I'm NOT okay with bank items spontaneously disappearing without anything said within any patch notes. That's honestly an underhanded trick, and it's seriously put me off of wanting to do any anniversary events especially after discovering that an EME employee will only be visiting each server once a week for a specific period of time (that happens to be in the middle of the day during the week so rip if you work normal 9-5PST hours) AND that the scarves that'll be handed out are limited.

Sincerely hoping that this is some sort of bug regarding the re-implementation of the letters, but whatever.
I'd be interested to know if this has happened to anyone else.

Cheers.

  • I believe the key point to the post being in the first sentence of the third paragraph. While it is good that the letter removal was addressed, it not being clearly stated in the patch notes and instead only on an updated forum thread that may not be as widely noticed lies the issue.

It was said that there will be more ways to obtain the scarves other than "find an eme employee during work hours".

There were no other patch notes for that particular update. The actual Patch Notes categories seems to be reserved for big content patches, thus why we only have three entries in there, as of this date. The notification for this was posted in News & Announcements, so it's not like it was some EME post buried in some other thread/discussion.

News & Announcements has pretty much taken over for all of the small news blurbs that used to be found on the main page as news, as far as I can tell. (Something related to the amount of effort that goes into making a web page news entry compared to just writing a forum post.) If you don't yet, you really should start checking there as well, or you will miss things. (Though there are also other locations where information will be found, so sadly there is no single location to get everything.)

Calm down guys. The Scarf wont have stats no more, and you will be able to get it through farming the TERA letters. Time zone wont be an issue no more since the Terrons will drop the TERA letters to buy scarfs, and they will be 24/7 through the entire month. Just as Cobaltdragon said.

Dang. I missed that message of the removal. I also had a bunch of letters stocked up from the last event. Came as a surprise to see it missing when I logged into my character... :'(

I kept the letters too and it was not for a headstart in future events, I just like to keep old items. It'd be better if they made the new TERA letters as a different item rather than removing with only a forum post as notice. Not everyone who plays checks the forums, and those who do check may not check often enough to see it, I'm on the forums somewhat but I didn't notice until the letters were already gone.

I really wish they had been a bit more clear on this (as in maybe a link on the log-in banner - I very rarely check the forums)... I had several complete sets that I would have turned into Jade Dragons if I had known.

Same. A guild mate noticed she didn't have it in the bank anymore. Then I checked my bank and saw they were gone. (RIP 16 sets of letters). I regularly check general discussion forums and patch notes but i rarely ever look in News & Announcements. Sad days.

While I hate to see letters gone (I use them to write out things on global sometimes), I can see why they are removed. The most important thing is that it allows the devs to not require more item codes (and in turn causes more server overhead for unnecessary reasons). This is a different arguments from campfires (which people argued could be used as just a cosmetic item and I actually agree on that), because outside of what it is used as an event, the letters server absolutely no purpose other than decorating your inventory. In fact, I was genuinely surprised that until today EME has not removed some of the event only items from my item claim.

My issue isn't so much that they removed the letters from the bank (although, I sympathize for those who lost sets or wanted to keep them), but that they did so without exchanging any kind of credit for them. As most players here already know, in order to receive the letters they had to fight BAM monsters, and even then each defeat was not guaranteed a letter drop. To just remove these letters without any credit acknowledgement for the player's efforts was just plain wrong. ):^/
  • I just realized today that mine were gone. I held onto a set after the event a couple years ago that gave the Jade mounts because at that time EME's official stance was that we could hold onto the letters and save them for a future letter event. I wasn't playing during the last one, which is my issue, but I'm disappointed that they were removed from my bank. The only silver lining at this point is that I didn't want anything currently in anniversary token shop in the first place.

Is it weird that i still have mine albeit not stackable/usable with the new letters?

Lucky. I wanted to keep my old ones just as keepsakes/memorabilia.
