so even a daddy play tera ?
maybe - seandynamite does
1. I agree about no one owning anything in tera and it can all be taken away from us at any given moment. the reason why I refuse to buy 30-50 dollar character mounts. I will buy account bound mounts.
2. a. I don't have any short names for any of my characters, not even any anime names. b. I got my first set of names about 5 years ago, and the rest over the years pretty much all before the name wipe. c. I didn't even try for any of the most wanted names after the wipe. d. I lost a few due to the server merges. all my names are ones I put a lot of thought in, from tv shows that many do not watch, from books that I love, and lastly my actual name.
3. many people's argument is that they want the names of those that are 40 or below. also many want people's play time taken into consideration as well. in this post and in past posts.
4. I don't play other mmos anymore , but I know many people here that do.
5.
6. I have a few level 1 characters holding some of my names, but they are on other servers, just in case I decide to play on them or I want to try a different race, gender, or class. I don't sell my names, nor would I ever. I did however held a name when I first knew about the ninja class coming to ktera and made the same name on each server due to the play on words due to the class and race, and I have that name still on a couple of servers, but I did eventually let it go on a couple of them. if people think about it hard enough, they will figure out that name lol.
all in all, I think the way they did it last time was fair, giving people warnings ahead of time, but what I have a problem with, is these people that want it taken from those that are level 40 or below, or if their play time on their characters is low. those are the ones I called entitled, spoiled adults and kids. I put a lot of effort into naming mine, why cant they do the same. trying to find a cool or clever name in a 6 year old game is going to take some thought now, and I doubt people will be able to find the 3-6 letter word or anime name they want. I do wish people luck.
I think you have seen lots of people getting upset because of all the good names on low level characters that are never even loaded up, I don't think anyone has suggested that they should be able to just take the name on that basis alone.
The main path toward loosing a name that I would support is a 12 month absence from the game followed by a failure to respond to numerous warning emails over the course of 3 months alerting the person to a name wipe.
I might support a shorter absence period for leveling characters to prevent name hoarding.
e.g. if you don't login with your lv1 character for 2 months, you get 1 warning email (or in game post to main characters) 1 month before hand followed by a wipe. But I would want to find out from the community if this was supported before implementing it.
As I say, I am yet to come up with the perfect solution to prevent name hoarding and would solute anyone who did.
I think its more about coming up with the least worst solution.
takes time to come here and whine all good names taken need name wipe
wont take time to think up or research suitable names as this is too hard ~ just sayin
because tera is his job
Honestly, this would be an excellent method.
If they notified everyone affected in advance so they have a chance to save their name, and then afterwards released them secretly/randomly to the pool, then yeah. So long as the people at risk of losing them are given ample opportunity to take action.
That said, I honestly don't think the situation is as bad as it used to be before Steam launch. I find it not hard to come up with good one word names even on MT/TR these days. I do feel like it's mostly that it bugs people when there's a name they want to see it "hoarded" by someone who isn't playing that character.
ye stole angel in secret before than elinu1 wake up
EME should take the FFXIV/Wildstar approach and just add last names to characters.
This way:
1) You have a MUCH better ability to get the name you want, assuming you're trying to create an original name, rather than be Drizzt Do'urden.
2) You don't upset returning players - nothing slaps a returning player back out of the game faster than finding out all of their characters lost their names due to a server merge or some other bull-poopery.
Or just allow duplicated names and use a unique account number. Then people would actually create some unique original name instead of a three letter name.
