TERA Reward Points

So, am I not understanding how this works? Is mine bugged? I have a Founders account, 4 65s, spent probably $300 or so when it went live and have spent about $200 since then and I'm still only Tier 4(I don't think my Tier has increased since it went live but I know for a fact I spent $100 and did not move off of Tier 4) how much money do I have to spend to prove my "loyalty" #salty

People who have Tier 10 have spent around $10-12k in EMP, so that should give you an idea.

Is that actually what they intended it to be because if so that makes me even saltier haha #slingingthesalt
  • I found an old thread that outlines the tiers here:

    http://tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums/general-discussion/topics/RP-requirement-for-each-loyalty-tier

(Just keep in mind that they're using the dot as a thousand indicator, not a decimal point.)

So yeah, if you spent $500 in total, that'd be something like 60,000 EMP, which would put you in Tier 4 (getting close to Tier 5). And yeah, with the current point structure, most people won't hit Tier 10 for years, if ever. (The people who already did hit Tier 10 would have been spending about $260/month on the game since it launched.)

As a background info it should be mentioned, that it is NOT intended to have 95% of all players at Tier 10 within 5 months. Tier 10 is only for a very small amount of players, just have a look at the Tier 10 boni.

Besides that, I already predicted it at the loyality start: EME puts in special events or ingame-rewards to earn reward points to climb the next tier. Right now, they put in double Vanguard. The system already has "reward points chests" implemented; the daily dungeon you run for 10 points (well, that's what I get on Tier 4).

So I would bet that the next event has a reward points chest, filled with e.g. 300 points (depends on quantity), perhaps even tradeable.
  • Hmmm okay thanks both counterpoint and SaphirKanzaki for the very useful information. I just got (and honestly still am) very salty when I spent almost $200 a few weeks ago(mainly trying to get Castanic Male Castanica Demons outfit)and I only made it about halfway from Tier 4 to Tier 5. I'm not saying I should be able to get Tier 10 in just a few months, but I also don't find this reward system fair as it doesn't really reward loyalty all to much in my opinion it just rewards how much you spend and then you get some goodies...like I dunno I just feel it should have been a little different :/
  • I see it sort of like Airline Reward Point schemes that have different "tiers". The vast majority of customers will only ever be in the basic tier with minimal perks and occasional free flights if you save up for years, but the really high-end business class flyers who spent tons of money will get all the perks. It don't know if it's really the right fit for a game like TERA... but yeah. I feel your frustration, and I think a lot of people felt the same way when it was introduced. Now, I think people have mostly ignored it, while earning points bit by bit on the side.

Its the main problem of the system it should NOT be named loyalty system cause its not its just a p2w system, if it was a loyalty system it would actually reward people that put in more time in the game not make us feel like we haven't been loyal to a game cause we didn't spend 13k on a game.

I honestly don't mind if the system is in the game but its just an insult calling it "loyal" to spend unreasonable amounts of money on a game, especially if being loyal in the game would be around like 5-10 years of grinding to become the most "loyal" even after people have already put insane amounts of time in the game.
Yeah, it's a poor choice of words in this case. That's the name for it in business/marketing jargon. Like, around here movie theatres have a point system here where you can earn free movies after buying so many, and that's called a "loyalty system". Same with some other retail store chains that have the same, and airlines, and everything else. It's all just called "loyalty systems" and in every other context loyalty to a store is literally the same as spending money (because, with a store or most any customer-facing business, buying is loyalty).

They just should have avoided that term when talking about a F2P video game, because in that context, it sends a bad message. Loyalty is playing, not just paying. They used the word that applies everywhere else in the business world, but is the wrong word here.
  • I feel your pain. I've spent a whole lot of money on this game and only ended up with tier 5. Considering that most games I play, I pay a one time fee of $50 or so and get to play them forever, and this game I've spent probably 10x that amount, only to end up at tier 5??? Yeah, okay, let's forget the "loyalty" aspect here for a minute, because we all know the system doesn't reward anyone for having played since beta, it's all about the $$$. And that's fine, that's how they keep the lights on and keep the game running. I mean programmers need to eat too, right? I have no problem throwing them some money now and then. But $500+ is only tier 4/5? Seriously? Exactly what kind of billionaires are playing this game to be buying $12,000 in EMP? I mean that's just crazy. If I spent that much money on the game, I would expect my own permanent skycastle right on top of Velika with my name on it in big bright gold letters serious stock options.
  • Yeah I agree with counterpoint and Legerrawen it really does need a came change or something. It doesn't feel like it rewards loyalty. I'm just glad I'm not the only one who feels this way and sorry about being late to the party!

is there any other way to get those red tokens (forgot the name) , the ones you buy things in the reward store with.
Because if the only way is the daily dungeon that gives 10 tokens then its going to take 6 months to be able to afford anything from tier 4 and up.
as far as i can tell you can only buy those items if you spend emp to raise your tier and get more tokens per day..
i wont waste those tokens on alkahest , keys or spellbinds ..

tune in to the weekly streams, they always have a code redeemable for some reward points+credits. if you miss them, you can watch the vod on twitch after the stream, or check the subreddit (r/teraonline), they're usually posted shortly after being revealed.

whats the point of a scroll that makes something +9 that only works on TIER 8 ?!?!?!?!? and its 400 credits.
tier 8 is super easy to mw and enchant. why would any player waste credits on it. make it for tier 9, then its worth it

Those scrolls were for the previous patch and had never been updated.

The way I see it, the good tiers, the ones that give actually useful stuff, are 2 and 4 anyway. Tier 6 offers cosmetics and the random MP/HP/Stam mount which can be found elsewhere anyway, and tiers 8 and 10 offer either bulk of what you'd get on lower tiers (like 50 strongbox keys), more mounts, or exclusive cosmetics. Nothing there that could help you play the game at all. In fact, wearing one of those exclusive helmets only serves to label you as someone who has played a lot of vanguards or paid a lot of money. None are a show of skill or hard work in my opinion.

As for obtaining the stuff, the game gives points for the system. Both reward points (level) and reward credits (currency). It's slow but I see it as something that I'm getting extra that I wasn't getting before, just for doing the exact same I've been doing all these years in the game.

Tier 6 is the ultimate tier for players who don't want to bother with tier 9/10.

+2% enchanting rate and actually good cosmetics open up
