Worth coming back?

Heya there!
It's been about 1 1/2 years since I've stopped logging in, I was wondering how the game is doing? Is it still widely played? Are the newer endgame dungeons challenging?
More importantly, how is the current class balance? Last time I played Priests stopped being the best healers and Mystics took that spot after so many years of being in the shadows. Archers and Slayers did no damage and the newer classes at the time were too OP. How is it nowadays? Especially concerning Archer?

    Q. It's been about 1 1/2 years since I've stopped logging in
    A. Whatever stopped you from playing will more likely make you stop again once you come back?

    Q. I was wondering how the game is doing?
    A. Fine I guess. But "fine" is subjective depending on the person whether they are content with life or miserable that only looks at the fault of things.

    Q. Is it still widely played?
    A. It's not a popular MMO, so no? Not sure your definition of "widely".

    Q. Are the newer endgame dungeons challenging?
    A. To new players, yes. To expert players, no.

    Q. More importantly, how is the current class balance?
    A. Same ol' bait and switch FOTM to make people reroll to feel relevent. Unless you aren't insecure and stick with your sole class and still do fine. Balances will never happen to make things interesting, or to stir up conversations or something.

    Q. Last time I played Priests stopped being the best healers and Mystics took that spot after so many years of being in the shadows.
    A. Meh that only works for high skill parse plays who cares about their numbers. You could still do any content with a Priest anyways. It's all about the player, not the class.

    Q. Archers and Slayers did no damage and the newer classes at the time were too OP. How is it nowadays? Especially concerning Archer?
    A. Archers and Slayers are fine, but Slayer just received their flashy awakening buffs so it's practically Slayer > Archer. But 1.5 years ago Archers were never in a bad spot? So I'm confused why you said that....

Also you are going to get mixed results form people. So honestly... it's a free time. You play it and you'll get a better answer than people like me and randoms here. Anything we say is merely subjective. We don't know what you want from a video game.

I find these posts about is it worth coming back funny. its a free to play game. if people want to know, log back in and try it. as the person above said, what made you quit in the first place may still be going on. asking people here that are still playing, will get you biased results for the most part. I still like playing tera. if I didn't, I would uninstall and not lurk in the forums.
give it another try. if you like the new changes, or realize that you like it again, then groovy. if you play it and hate it again, then the only thing lost is time, and you move on to something else. whichever you decide, good luck and have fun.

@DL7MMWLJ3W I appreciate your response. Reason I quit was I simply got burned out after having played since beta. Needed a break and played some other games but Tera will probably forever be my OTP as far as MMORPG's go.

Archers *were* in a bad spot for a very very long time. It's surprising that seems news to you. I did stick with mine, but quite frankly, if I hadn't been playing with good friends and an awesome guild I might have had troubles finding a group. Slayer, Warrior and Archers weren't that welcome because of lack of damage compared to the other classes.

I was not looking for answers tailored to me or I would have given detailed info about myself, I was asking in a general sense about it's population, class balance amd skill level needed. That has nothing to do with me as a person so I am not sure why you kept trying to make this so personal lol.

One more question, are the steam and official clients linked? Back when I played there was no steam version, though I am tempted to download that instead of the normal client. Would I be able to access my account? I am asking because in BDO the Steam Clients and official clients are not linked. I play it through Steam, if I were to download the official viewer instead I'd have no access to my account and vice versa.

Short answer, yes I believe it's worth coming back. The game is still fun.
  • Classes will never be balanced.
New classes are stil an Easymode for no-hand players. Specially Brawler. The easiest class on the game.
Even easier now with Apex skills. That is why there is a LOT more of Brawlers than Lancers.
  • ReaperElenaReaperElena ✭✭✭
Nah, it's more of a chore to play now than before. Still as much rng as ever or more.
  • RasseiRassei ✭✭
The game is fine and is still quite populated. Classes have also gone through several iterations of changes that have improved their fluidity and performance quite drastically.

Both Slayer and Archer are both extremely strong and feel great to play. RNG is still heavily present, but not enough to diminish enjoyment (at least for me) of the game.

At the end of the day it's you who has to decide if this game is worth your time and whether or not you will enjoy your time spent in Tera. Good luck out there.

Nop. Class balance is horrible, much worse than pre-awakening patch, maybe even the same garbage that was on brawler release (the most unbalanced patch since i started on vm4/5). You can check that moongourd site to see zerks dealing like 50% more than warrior (2nd best dps and op too) on all NM dungeons, the gap is much less on rke cuz there's lots of one shot mechs tho. The devs will do everything to force us reroll ecery 6 months. Btw the gap between top dps (zerk) and lowest (ninja) is insane and it'll be a problem on the next patch. Mystic thrall is broken on pvp too. There's still a lot of RNG even after gear revamp and lots of routing issues if you live outside of US.
  • If you’re looking for balance don’t even bother. Pvp? Mystic oneshots, priests even fully geared can’t survive with Kaia’s. DGs? Boring. Reskinned bosses you’ve probably faced while leveling up as regular BAMS. Honestly, look for something better.

Well... Zerkers on the original Tera are supossed to be that way. Top Dps but slow as hell.
In those glorious days of Tera BEFORE the easymodeclassforonehandedplayers (AKA brawler, ninja, reaper, gunner, valk) a zerker can one shoot anyone on CS (Yes, with [filtered] gear). But we dont have rush, or tacle or anything of those new skills (Not talking about apex, not even tank skills).
You have to catch someone unaware and land him a full charged TS and bum... u re dead.

Ohhh how i miss those days :(

Back to the topic... Zerkes are supossed to be the hardest hiter in the game, but they must deal with charges and slow movment restrictions. (That was a problem on some old mechanic as Wonderholme circle if u was caught to far away from it... With no rush and no dodge roll, u were pretty much dead :P )

For an awakened class, slayer's dps is hot garbage. Archer is the strongest non-awakened, almost on par with slayer. Zerk and warrior are playing on their own league. Class balance is as terrbible as ever.

I am pretty sure that Ninja and Reaper will not be viable in the new Hm and DS4.
  • Thanks everyone. I suppose I'll give it a cautious try and dust off my old archer and priest.

@MarcusCrassus I remember those golden days :) It was so frustrating trying to chase people down but once you got to whack someone it was bliss. Maybe I'll dust off my Zerker Trap.Run, too.

Gonna derp around for a while and see if I can get back into the game. As long as there's a decently sized playerbase it shan't be too bad.
  • Yeah problem now with zerker (pvp) is that all those new classes make your day impossible.
While not under TS effect, everything can stagger a zerker. And everything can KD one too. Reapers are a nightmare with their long range (Despite they are mid range.... :/ ) and instant speed AOE casts.
Valkyries can gather like 5 ppl on a ridiculous long radius too.
And Brawlers... Omg, can "KD" lock you to death, with nothing to do.
  • 1.5 years isn't that long ago in Tera's scope. It's likely almost the exact same game you left.

I'm impressed at all the post here of ppl trying to discourage someone from playing or giving tera a 2nd go, and they still play. Why discourage ppl from playing when you still play, it's hilarious.

On topic, not gonna disagree with some of the opinions above, but to each their own. Some people are raking it too far already with the negativity, some are giving constructive feedback that includes the pros and cons of the game. In the end, is gonna be up to you to decide if you stay or not. But let me tell you. Not all the fun of the game us on end game dungeons and such. You may find the game more enjoyable in the small things, without rushing, or feeling the pressure of having to have top gear to run stuff.

Give it a try and welcome back!
