Does Archer get better in the higher levels? (New Player)

I don't want to bash any class but the first class I played was Ninja, I really really really enjoy it. Got her to 40 then created a Reaper and I would say I really really enjoy that class. Now I wanted something like a sniper at a distance but when I tried the class it really seemed painful and weaker to play. Do I have to give it a chance or?
Not looking to bash Archer but maybe it's just not for me.

So I'm a simpleton, casual and lazy? wow... nice welcome to the game.

Alright. let's try to fix this. Welcome to Tera. I'm Nopi. I'm a derp, but I try to give friendly comments.

Now, about ninja, reaper and archer, in a less sour tone. Archer is one of the old classes that started with the game. The first new class after the game went F2P was reaper, then they went for Gunner, brawler and recently Ninja. Thing is that the new classes were made to be easier to play. No way to explain this in another way. That's why you find ninja to be easier. And at end game it will hit harder as well. Ninja also have skills with low cool down that are auto arranged to be used through spacebar pretty much automatically. Archer, being an older class doesn't have these benefits as these were things the devs added afterwards.

Now, while archer is a bit underpowered at the moment, it's still a fun class to play and will keep you more on your toes. Ninja is so easy that there's a chance you will simply get bored. There's a revamp incoming in the coming months and hopefully the old classes will get closer to the new classes, all without making the new classes so less relevant.

Thanks, that explains alot. MMO's die if they can't draw new people in but I've always said play what you have the most fun playing. For me that's been Ninja and Reaper. I just wanted to mix it up with some ranged game play. What class has the longest ranged skills?

No Drama and thanks again for explaining to a new player.

  • Archer is a very fun class but it is currently under-powered.

Thanks for the answer. Do you know when are they going to revamp the original older classes?
So basically all the ranged classes aren't really ranged in Tera?

Some ranged skills have a max range, and a range at which they do their most dps. Game play in Tera is all generally close quarters compared to some other games. No Skyrim arrow sniping here, for example. For archer, around 10M is where some skills start degrading their DPS. Also, as previously said, some boss mechanics require players to be close by to be able to clear them.

    Gotcha, much appreciated.

According to the skill tips, only for pve. Though if we are only on a pve field, yeah, decay shouldn't be a problem.

I guess the main problem here is that reaper and ninja get most of their arsenal early, but archer get almost all of its core skills after level 58, meanwhile leveling is slow because you lack AoE and your mobility isn't that good. With brawlers, ninjas, gunners and reapers you'll know if the class is or not for you before hitting level 40, this is important because the game will force you to wait 1 day to delete any character level 40 and up, and all of the old classes feel incomplete until you reach at least level 50.

There are 3 ranged DPS classes right now, from slower to faster: sorcerer, archer and gunner. Currently gunner is the fastest, simplest, tankiest and strongest among ranged classes. A thing to note is that it will feel different to ninja, reaper and brawler not only because is a ranged class, but also because its playstyle is not based on combos as such, instead it relies on a priority system.

I think I'll give gunner a try and see if it fits me. Thx Cezzare!

Okay I was going to try to give an argument of why I think archer is a good class to try, in spite of the fact that it's considered "low tier" dps in the current build, but it seems you'd rather join the Dark Side. :(

I know, I know, "they have cookies".

Cookies are overrated. And they give you diabetes. :p

Welcome to TERA where new classes were designed to pull and attract new players with simpleton knowledge of the game to make you feel OP and Wowwy as you level.

Then you have older classes that feels sluggish and you actually got to put this so-called "Effort" to do good!

You make it sound like a more complicated playstyle somehow makes for a more enjoyable game experience (or somehow makes you a more virtuous individual).

As a new player, I started a Priest. For optimal normal group play, Priests need to use seven healing/curing skills, six fast-reaction "Oh ****!" skills, and three buff/debuff skills that should be used as soon as they come off cooldown. (The skills are noted below, just in case you want to debate my counting.)

I put two of the "Oh ****!" skills on the mouse (the movement skills) and I'm trying to cluster the other 14 skills around WASD. That said, I'm not sure how inflicting tendinitis on myself from contorting my hand into weird positions (so I can dodge and cast simultaneously) improves game-play, or makes me a better individual.

If I had four hands, I would find this degree of complexity to be perfectly acceptable. As it is, I think the complexity has exceeded the playability (or at least the level where the play is most enjoyable).

    Seven healing/curing skills:
    Divine Respite
    Focus Heal
    Heal Thyself
    Healing Circle
    Healing Immersion
    Purifying Circle
    Restorative Burst

Six "Oh ****!" skills to quickly save me or my teammates:
    Arise
    Backstep (on mouse)
    Fiery Escape (on mouse)
    Guardian Sanctuary
    Kaia's Shield
    Retaliate

Three buff/debuff skills used off cooldown:
    Energy Stars
    Mana Charge
    Triple Nemesis
