Beginner tips?

Anyone have any good beginner tips or just things you wish you knew before you started?
I started playing this last night, so I'm only a few hours in. Enjoying it so far.

  • Play any race and class combo you like so you can get a feel for the game. Only Red Quest matter, and your vanguard initiatives will help with levels. You can currently get 2 PSN+ packs with some stuff, even a pretty good 280 speed mount. Gather everything you run past, as they give you passives and you can sell Mats to make money at the Brokers. You also get free cosmetics when your gathering skills reach certain levels.

In big cities, change channel so you can have better load. (options then press triangle and use the drop down to select another channel that isn't so busy)
  • Don't forget to gem out your gear appropriately and use potions. After gaining 30 levels the first time, I realized how critical they were. They make a big difference. Don't worry too much about enchanting your gear out until end game, as you get stuff so quickly it's hardly worth the effort. It does make things easier though.

If you want to level fast, just queue for dungeons and pvp. (vanguard quests while waiting) If you want to enjoy the game and see different zones, then just follow the red quest chains. Yellow quests are typically a waste of time.
  • Wow. it really sucks that literally half of the quests in the game are useless.

Maybe to you they seem useless but to others they might not if they enjoy quests. I've played since alpha on PC and on console with some of my alts I've followed quests for a change of pace. Doing yellow quest will show you more of the world than just following the main quest. They also give reputation if you plan on doing feats, extra mounts and other rewards. Yes by doing the extra quests you will outlevel an area fast but it gives you something to do instead of grinding dailies and endgame mats all the time.
  • Totally agree with that, but I thought the purpose of side quests was to assist in the leveling process.
If you can level easily without ever using side quests, then the purpose of side quests would be diminished. Or eliminated.

Why do I want .1% of my exp bar over murdering some grimy pig-faced half naked sexy soldier if I can just go do something else lol. Like actually leveling up? Or endgame content? Or plain chatting instead?

I dont think the side quests matter in here.

    But thats just me.

  • Let me add more, you ignore yellow quest because at endgame when you decide to do green quest for rep, the yellow quest give rep for factions. So if you do them you will have a harder grind later.

Vanguard / Red Quest / Instance Queue to 65 then yellow, green and dungeons for GearScore and etc.
  • It's good that I found this topic. I found some really good advices for myself.
