Archer vs Sorcerer Damage
So I have both archer and sorcerer with twistshard gear, but I'm a bit confused about their damage. I read from posts that archer has higher damage, while sorcerer has higher survivability. However, when I do Ghillieglade, IOD bams, and 431 dungeons, it feels like sorcerer has higher damage. It's not like a huge difference, but it is kinda noticeable to me. It kinda makes sense because meteor and thunderbolt have similar base damage, but meteor is on a much shorter cd. Sorcerer also has the mana boost steroid (not the best steroid, but still 20% increase in all skill damage). My sorcerer is building full crit, while my archer is building towards the crit cap and adding power. Will sorcerer damage fall off later compared to archer once I upgrade to fm/sc because of full crit build?

- Twistshard gear is not optimal, you're still missing a lot of stats at that level.
- Solo content like IoD and GG aren't a great representation of DPS.
- Party composition heavily influences your DPS. A Lancer will increase your DPS more than a Brawler, a Mystic typically more than a Priest, and overall party DPS will increase your personal DPS significantly. All that on top of RNG from mechanics, boss positioning and more.
It also depends on rotation and ping. Archer DPS is extremely heavily reliant on Rapid Fire, but if you have higher ping Rapid Fire deals significantly less DPS to the point where over 150 ping Rapid Fire becomes almost detrimental. Meanwhile Sorc is still ping reliant but much less so than Archer.
As for rotation, your rotation likely wont be optimal until you have proper etchings as Energetic is commonplace for both classes. But realistically you likely haven't played long enough to have proper rotation for either class, I would definitely recommend reading a guide though for both classes.
- Yeah twistshard isn't optimal, which is why I wanna know if the DPS of archer will increase more compared to sorcerer when upgrading to fm and sc (kinda like what I asked in my question).
- In terms of both solo content and party (with a composition of lancer and priest to keep things constant with both classes and no crit buff), it feels like my sorcerer is currently doing a bit more DPS than archer at this level of gear. This is partying while maintaining similar levels of back positioning when I play both classes.
I should've mentioned that ping isn't a problem for me, so I'm able to play archer with rapid fire properly.
I'm currently at 1 tier II and tier III energetic etchings for both classes, so neither have an advantage of gear and set up over the other. Only difference is sorcerer has full crit jewelry, while archer has a mix of crit and power jewelry (so archer isn't at crit cap yet).
This is sorcerer and archer we're talking about, so there is no proper rotation for them. They both play similarly based off of priority skills. I wasn't really asking for help on how to get better at the classes. I'd look for a guide if that was the case (which I've already done before playing the classes). I was asking if archer gets ahead in DPS after it reaches crit cap and opts into power, compared to sorcerer that builds full crit.
Your first sentence is what I keep hearing from other posts, which is why I'm asking this question. From fresh 65 to twistshard, sorcerer has higher DPS . So I'll just assume it's the case of archer generally scaling better than sorcerer as the gear gets better because of crit/power vs full crit.
Moongourd doesn't really help as much either because neither are really far ahead of each other like berserker is to everyone lol.
It's not really what I was asking for, and you kinda just assumed I was a new player that didn't know how the game worked, but thanks for your reply and trying to help.
Archers tend to stand further making it very difficult for healers to buff them whereas sorc can hug the boss and all ranged skills will strike.
I'm not sure why you are obsessed which one does more damage. They aren't awakened nor do they do carry damage compared to zerker and warrior. If you are that much concerned over numbers, then don't play non-awakened classes and keep rerolling to every FOTM that happens.
OR
Have some pride and continue to play the class to extremely master it to deal damage than no commoners can do. People that keeps rerolling will never master the class because of swapping classes over and over thinking they have to be relevant.
You want to be that precise about numbers? Don't. Moongourd, parsing, low ping, have 5 no lifers, high-end computer, 3rd party tools, and scripts are needed to get big numbers. Period. If you can't obtain these, then you shouldn't worry about numbers. Just play the game and master a class that you can enjoy.
If you call curiosity obsession, then sure I'm obsessed with finding out information about the classes I like and how what I'm seeing in game is different from what people are saying in posts. If you think I'm so concerned about numbers, do you really think I'd play archer and sorcerer over berserker or warrior? Idk about you, but I try to figure things out or ask questions when I'm curious. The latter being easier because I don't have enough resources to test it myself.
Here's how things went. I read a post about archer doing more damage and sorcerer having more survivability. I go in game and play them for myself while enjoying it. I see a discrepancy with what I'm seeing in game and what the post said. I go on forums to ask about it. You reply with a brief statement about positioning and asking why I care so much about numbers, while stating the obvious about awakened classes and FOTM. I don't care about having the highest numbers. This post would be called "What's the Highest DPS Class and How Do I Get the Highest Numbers?" if I did care. Try to fix your misconceptions.
My question was literally a yes or no question, not asking about precise numbers. I know both classes have more than enough damage to clear any current content.
"Will sorcerer damage fall off later compared to archer once I upgrade to fm/sc because of full crit build?" <- That was the question in case you didn't read it because you were talking about a completely different topic. Nothing about precise numbers or which one is the most OP. I don't care about FOTM. I'd be playing berserker right now until second batch of awakenings if that was the case. This is strictly curiosity because I really enjoy both archer and sorcerer.
Thank you for your reply and trying to help though. I get that you had good intentions and that would be good advice to players trying to play the most OP class.
Classes with crit caps, particularly lower ones, that stack power after a certain point or have innate power buffs (Valkyrie/Archer/etc) scale harder with weapon upgrades than crit classes because of power adding damage primarily based off your weapon damage stat.
An Archer would gain, on average more damage per weapon upgrade than a Sorc because of the increased power they have due to power stacking from their lower crit cap.
Max gear would result in the Sorc having roughly +132 power unbuffed with full crit gear, and the archer having around an additional +50 power from gear not having to stack crit and +30 from Archer's eye buff for +80 total. Each upgrade at SC adds around 350 attack modifier for both classes since their weapons have very similar attack stats.
For Sorc that means 1,732 +1385 (total 3,117) attack per upgrade.
For Archer that means 1,732 +2,157 (total 3,889) attack per upgrade.
So the answer is yes, Archer hits harder than Sorc with max gear because power scales with weapon damage while crit does not. So it's not apparent with trash gear and low stats, but it is with high tier gear and max stats.
Regardless of whether I was a new or veteran player, you didn't even answer the question that was being asked in your first response. Yes, power classes generally scale better than full crit classes in terms of damage. However, that's not always the case. If I asked for a comparison between warrior DPS and berseker DPS, that comment wouldn't apply because berserker has higher DPS as a full crit class. Both of them are awakened classes, but warrior builds power after hitting the desired crit rate. Berserker weapon attack stat is higher than warrior's, and the skill base damage is all around higher as well. Berserker will crit with more main skills than warrior because warrior just aims for a scythe crit cap (maybe a bit more crit now for aerial scythe). After reaching max gear, berserker is still doing more damage than warrior, even though warrior should scale better.
Because of this, we can't say that power classes always scale better than crit classes. This can lead to the possibility of the general information not applying to other classes as well. Generally, archer would scale better than sorcerer because it opts into power after the crit cap. They both have similar weapon attack stats, like you said. Their priority skills also have similar base damage, but their biggest damaging skill cooldown is where things can get iffy. Sorcerer meteor and archer thunderbolt have similar base damage, but once they both use their skills, sorcerer can use an additional 3 meteors before archer's thunderbolt comes back off of cooldown. Along with having a steroid, sorcerer has enough ways to catch up to archer's built power. Sorcerer will also crit more in their main skills than archer because archer just aims for a thunderbolt and radiant arrow crit cap.
It's possible that the people who stated that archer has higher DPS than sorcerer were just basing that off of general information. Anyway, I was just asking out of curiosity. It would be interesting if sorcerer actually does more damage than archer, contrary to popular belief. I didn't ask for any detailed math because there was no need for any. There are a lot of factors that affect DPS, so I wanted someone who is well-versed in both archer and sorcerer to give an answer.
I'm starting to move out of the trash gear and am currently at FM +6 for both classes. I decided I wanted to play both rather than just focus on one because I really like them too much. Gotta get more resources, upgrade them both to SC, then focus on one to +9. Thanks for the responses and trying to help. I won't be replying to this thread anymore because I've decided to just test the numbers myself. It's more time consuming, but it will probably be more fun to figure it out rather than replying to general statements here. Sorcerer and archer are probably getting their awakenings in KTera soon-ish, so that's something to look forward to.
