Can I get an official response for DPS meters please?

Hi,
Been playing TERA for a few years now and am finally interested in getting a DPS meter to improve my dps.

I've seen many players post the dps meter in party chat. Seen many people on youtube and moongourd. However, some I've seen some responses like 3rd party programs aren't allowed at all. And I've seen the response that its okay as long as you don't be a [filtered] about the results of the DPS meter.

So, quite frankly I'm very confused what the policy is and in what ways can we use the DPS meter. I don't want to banned but in very interested in downloading one.
Can someone help me out please, I'm very confused.

  • EME's policy is no 3rd party programs, since the DPS meter is a 3rd party program it's against their policy thus they don't actively state in public it's allowed.

However it's passively allowed, you wont get banned for it or in any sort of trouble unless you get repeatedly reported for harassing people with it. The EU publisher of Tera have claimed they don't actively ban players solely on the use of DPS meters either, and I'm fairly certain KR is pretty open with not caring as well.

Tera has an issue with 3rd party programs, a large portion of the active high-level player base uses 3rd party programs or mods, with a majority of overseas players that participate in ilvl 439+ content using more than just DPS meters as well. They could actively issue out bans for all these programs/mods but it would mean banning a really large portion of their active playerbase, which would be insanely detrimental to them as a company.

So in other words, if they do at some point actively take a stance against 3rd party programs and start issuing bans for them, you're more likely to see them target the creators or issue public warnings first.

Your official answer is this threat being locked because it will always delve into other things that are actually harmful. It's happened already in fact.
    But yeah, it's forbidden.

It's impossible for them to find out you are using 3rd party programs unless you are vocal about it. So it's "safe" to use.

You will get banned for harassing other players about their specific dps.

I've reported players that openly cheat and exploit. (People who run a broker negotiation script all day long) And they haven't been banned.

Like many other games, I think EME take disciplinary actions based on certain amount of reports. So if you have been the only one reporting them I think that report may get ignored, as many games publishers do.

If Tera's player base was a bit less caustic, we'd already have a DPS meter in game. This is why we can't have nice things.

The answer on this has always been the same:

    1) They're not allowed.
    2) If you get reported for using one (and there's evidence to support it), you may have disciplinary action taken against your account.

You can also assert that they are not actively going out of their way (right now at least) to scan people's computers and proactively ban people for using it, and so this causes some people to insinuate that the effective policy is "don't ask, don't tell." But it doesn't change the fact that, officially, it's forbidden, and any use is entirely at your own risk.

there you go...an official response from a player council member.

lol - well I wouldn't count it as an official response (they meant from actual staff, I know), but I'm just channeling/repeating what various staff have said on the forums for years (back with Minea, Treeshark, Harmonia, Spacecats, and many others). They've never changed the message on this over the years because it's straight from the EULA. They're not going to tell people it's okay to violate what they agreed to when they created their account, or their legal team would send them more than nasty glares.
