Game engine and optimization issues.

Just an observation:

It's been 30 days since I've played Tera; instead, I've been playing World of Warcraft.

During those 30 days of playing World of Warcraft, my client literally lagged less than twice, I had zero fps drops, and I had zero game crashes.

During the two days that I've been back playing Tera, I've literally had more than 5 game crashes, and lord knows how many lags and ping spikes, and fps drops.

Conclusion: This is why no one sticks around in this game.. it's a horrible gaming experience. Instead of adding update after update to a broken game engine, BHS needs to do the right thing and update it.. we are still stuck on DX9..........................

  • If I remember correctly BHS pretty openly stated in an interview or something that they don't intend to update the game client to support any newer engines or systems because they don't want their developers to learn those new engines/programming languages. That's why Tera, PUBG and even their new A:IR all run on UE3 with [filtered] optimisation.

Also quite sure they don't want to rework poorly performing parts of the game because it would take more work than they would be willing to invest and the improvement wouldn't be significant enough to warrant it.

All they care about is money and it shows.. Which is exactly why they will never see the level of success that Blizzard and other companies have.

Whether they can make it last will depend in part on whether they can address the optimization and cheating issues effectively. But yeah, they certainly made a ton of money on that, and that'll probably provide a nest egg for a while. My hope is that some of the lessons they learn about optimization and preventing cheating/exploits will trickle down to TERA, but it's a long shot.

They're more likely to sell off Tera than they are to optimize it at this point. I'm surprised they even bother with patches anymore.
  • Such a shame that this wonfull idea of an MMO get realized by such a lazy [filtered] company.
I really hope another, more serious, game studio make a similar game.
But they still insist on that Bless kind of trash.

  • Blue Hole Studios is only interested in one thing: $

They don't care about the quality of their games. (tera, pubg optimization, rushing pubg to console)
They don't care about their public perception. (suing epic, the licensor of UE3 engine, over fortnite battle royale)
They don't care about the integrity of their business practices (pubg loot box controversy)

    They just want your money.

I understand that its likely that Tera simply doesn't pull in enough money to invest in optimizing it. I`m sure that there are more technical reasons but those reasons don't matter to players because they just want to play. Like me. I just wanna play and I don`t care about their technical difficulties or whatever backstory comes with that. Hell i`m not even that picky as to how a game looks, either. What I care about is how something actually plays. And ive played some DOS games that run better then this BS.
  • I remember BHS saying long ago that WILL NOT update Tera's engine or assets in any way or form. So, complain all you want. Not gonna happen.
