Everyone who says NO NO NO are just name hoarders who want to make gold off their stolen names

how can I be a name hoarder ?? every alt only has one name as I cant leave them nameless

and how could I steal a name that was available when I named my alt ?? their my alts names and ill use them how I like
  • The people that scream "first come first serve" are likely the people who hoard names to sell. So long as you're active on all your characters what does it matter if there is a name sweep? It doesn't matter at all. I play all 20 of my characters at least once a week so, it doesn't affect me at all.

im in a agree with this post there is a dude that got a name i want, its a level 1 gunner and it havent play since the last name wipe so thats like 4 years ago maybe. there should be a character delete timer if the person doesnt reach an specific level, like "your character getting deleted if not reaching 65 in 1 year" or so

    what.

i've been playing somewhat actively for the past 5 years but 95% of all my characters are level 1. Why should they get deleted???

sorry i meant, if the account havent been active for 1 year...
  • I know the perfect solution. Tera should only allow to name the characters Code from now on, so every single player will be 'Code'. And you don't know who you are talking to. :)

Anyway. I agree that the lvl 1 characters (at least the ones who has less than 1 play hour in total) should loose their names, because they are being inactive, and seriously what's the point in keeping lvl 1 characters? Just because of the name? If you already made the character, then you should at least play with it. What's so good in keeping a character just to own the name? Nothing.
But on the other hand, if a character is lvl 65, and/or has for example 50-100 play hours in total, then they shouldn't loose their names, even if they are being inactive for a year or so. Well, because they might come back, and they might like to use that name still. And just because you want a name so badly, it doens't mean they don't want it as badly as you do. But there should be an option to give their names to someone if that someone wants it, and they don't mind it. A free name swap options for returning players or something like that.
Plus if the name is already taken that means you aren't trying to be unique. Imo unique names are better, because then there're won't be any Code, Code01, I.Code.I, Code.Someone and players like that, but only you with that unique name.

I understand the temptation. I wanted a Sindarin name for my high elf, found a perfect word--matched her appearance and sounded cool besides that--but it was taken. And now I have to live with one letter different. Which irks because the person who claimed it has not moved from level 40 in 3 years.

I would pay them gold gladly--but there is no means of contact. So I understand the temptation.

However, I would not support a name wipe. Because I have also been the person who snagged a great name and left it on a level one character until I was ready to use it. And if that person who owns the name I want ever returns to the game, I don't want the first thing they discover to be that they no longer have their name.

    But that's my take.

I dont "want" the name idiot. <~< I just want Eme to get rid of the inactive players that have no playing hours at all or ones that probably wont be coming back like my guildies friend for instance whom said wont be coming back to tera.

why should you be able to dictate how long we should play a character for? many of us have level 1 characters so we can have our name for when a new class comes out or when we want to try a different one or race.

I understand that you like one specific name and want to use it later, but a game is a game because you play it, not because of what your character is named. So imo it's better to play with the characters and not just leave them alone to hold the name until you want to make another character and use it again. To me, names don't matter, I like the characters themeselves, not the names, so I don't completly undestand why people like to own names in a game. But it's just my opinion. Eme will decide if there is a need for a name wipe or not, so nothing we can do about that.

we shouldn't have to be expected to play tera the same way everyone else does. for example, I play solo. if I run a dungeon, I run it solo. I paid for my character slots from the tera store so I can do whatever I want with those characters and name them what I want if the name is available. i don't tell others how to play tera, so we shouldn't have to be told how others want us to play. we aren't breaking any rules.
name wipes wouldn't fix anything to stop name hoarders, because once they find out that eme is going to do a name wipe, they will log back in and just be active enough or level to 65 just so they can keep the names.
telling us that level 1 players should have their names deleted because they don't do enough on that character ( even if the person plays on a different one ), is like saying a level 65 that is just afking in velika should lose their names cause they aren't running content. what would you do about those players that are level 65 and only afk in velika or highwatch?

I understand your point, and I don't want to tell you what to do in the game, because of course it is up to you. It's fine be me if you are keeping a name to yourself, I just simply don't understand why names can be this special. Some people would even fight for them, but they are just names after all.
Also, afking is not the same as not playing at all with the character. I mean, if you are logging into the game and keep afking for hours every day and basically not play at all, then it could be considered the same, but otherwise it's different.

there are many people that afk as level 1 and level 65 all day everyday. many people quit playing the gear grind and just use tera as a different form of social media. so if a level 65 does nothing but afk in velika or highwatch or hangs out in the tavern and rp, and never runs any content at all, its no different than a level 1 doing the same thing on babysitting island. I know of people that are level 1 that hangs out in babysitting island just to hang out and talk at the starting area. I have also hung around there talking to others as well.
I understand people want other people's name but just because you want something doesn't mean that its right to take it from other people. there are also inactive players that are deployed in the military that doesn't have the luxury of having the internet that plays tera. I know some in that situation also and they have spend hundreds of dollars in the store and have been playing since beta. so do they deserve to lose their names?
the argument about name hoarders/sellers wont work because the ones that are doing that logs back in and doesn't lose their names when a name wipe is announced. the argument that you should lose your name if you aren't level 40 or above is b.s. also because it goes back to trying to dictate how people should be playing tera. many of those inactive players still hang out in forums watching whats going on, some are waiting for the game to get better or new content that they want to play. and when eme announces a name wipe, then they log in and play just enough to not lose it. people also have lives outside of tera and life happens. they don't always have the luxury of playing sometimes for months.
eme staff has already talked about these same things last year and basically said there would be no clear winners from name wipes.
there are a few names I would like to have but are on inactive players, but I don't want them to lose it just because I want it. I just use my imagination and come up with new and better names. leave other players alone and don't worry about what they do or don't do. you do you and let them do them and the game will be much better for it.

I don't understand why everyone's so against it.
It won't even harm you if you're still an active player.
The point is to release names of INACTIVE characters, that haven't been online for well over a year.
This is just giving others a chance to use a name that hasn't been active in forever, I don't see how that's a bad thing.
Besides, they send out an e-mail if they do end up doing a name release, so if you so desperately want to save the names of your inactive account, you can just log in on them for a minute and BAM, you won't lose them. *shrug*
