This does seem extremely odd to me too as they are stuffing their most valuable customers.
First they remove the vast majority of items from the store.
Then do lacklustre daily deals.
Finally they do a decent EMP deal on keys which people buy with real money as talent prices are high.
Then stuff all the people who bought keys with EMP on the daily deal by announcing no more jackpots.
The problem is that without jackpot events keys are not worth anything like their cost in EMP. Also given talent prices this woudl be a perfect time for a jackpot event to help the economy. But by doing things this way EME manages to stuff both the the people who bought keys with Real money and the players in game who are having issues with extremely high and increasing talent prices....

and from what I can tell even winning the best rewards barely makes up for the cost to a key in EMP. So why on Earth would anyone bother to buy strongbox keys now with EMP? A lot of people are talking about leaving anyway with recent issues and now anyone who bought keys with real money recently is going to be even less likely to want to stay.
I can't understand the reasoning behind this but if for some utterly unknown reason EME was utterly determined to do this do wouldn't a much better way be to announce that they are changing things BEFORE having an EMP sale on strongbox keys.
Even better EME could have announced a final jackpot event before they made the changes, which would have actually massively boosted EMP key sales and helped the economy, at least temporarily.. As it is this seems purely like a bait and switch, which incredibly hurts both they buyer and the seller which is frankly quire an achievement....
I am glad I have dumped most of my keys now. I know a whale that had over 10k keys from both emp and tera rewards. Needless to say he might not come back. Way to go eme.
The reason is that I realised in hindsight that the biggest market players on my server have always been trying to buy (at pretty terrible rates of course) EMP and strongbox keys in trade chat. But at least some of them stopped offering to buy keys in the last few days, which I thought was a bit odd given talent prices are increasing.
Could just be selective memory or a coincidence of course, but given the debacle with Essentialmana obtaining (and spreading to their friends) valuable insider information it is hard to not be paranoid now about these things....
Suspicious activity about keys prices maybe.
I am sure when no strongbox events are up keys sells for even 500g, but surprisingly few days before the oficial announcement that there is not going to be more strongbox events keys were selling for almost 2k gold.
I could be a coincidence but it is pretty nasty to think that could be a leak or something that was not informed oficially to everyone but only a few players.

Opened 50 Locked Gem boxes for science too and got nothing. EME keeps finding ways to one-up each other, aka, shooting themselves in the foot.
I am telling people straight fact so they don't blindly open boxes and get hardly another of their gold back. Besides don't you have economies to ruin economy parasite.
