really puzzling...the color flashes you report when it crashes are typical of a graphics problem, bad drivers, corrupted directx/openGL (note, i know ogl isn't an issue in this case just added for the sake of completeness) overheating...do you have another card you could test? onboard graphics? did you recently update drivers? maybe try a rollback to a previous version of your cards driver.
you could also grab some tools to stress test as a last resort...see if either a graphics stress or cpu stress test can force a crash.
I guess I could try rolling back a few months on graphics driver.
i'll grab prime 95 and kombustor for stress tests
Also, it's less a 'flash' of color, and more like the screen just goes to a random color, prompting me to once again hold the power switch. I've tried to wait and see if pc is responsive at all after it happens, but caps lock wont even light up on keyboard after it happens
http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/8847869
(also the highest my cpu temp got while prime 95 was running was 61c, without any doubt that's the hottest I've seen it)
I've not run kombustor yet
other than that testing with the onboard graphics could help localize the problem, if you can run kombuster or tera off the onboard without crashes then it's the drivers or the card itself, they can be failing and still work, just edge cases can push them over the top into lock up land. though i'm thinking (hoping) it's just the driver. seems too specific to be the card itself.
after a brief bout of googling came across some disturbing reports on the 470...
consistent lock up if it reaches 60c (few reports)
while it can be OC'ed adequate aftermarket cooling or a temp controlled room is recommended to avoid damage. (attributed to iffy QC, weak components, and paranoid factory over temp settings, depends on the manufacturer.)
and lots of general screw ups with various driver versions (tons)
rolling back the driver would be the easiest to check though since you have kombuster and you know it causes a crash. faster result than loading up tera and anxiously waiting to see if it runs or dies.
One of the fans that was hooked up to powersupply has a short in the wire/in the plug and it was causing the fan to kick on and off repeatedly, and I think it was causing fluctuations with the power getting to the gpu....i noticed once in afterburner that the voltage monitor spazzed out for a second, and on kombustor, i noticed it wasn't always getting 100% power.
Hopefully this was the one...but i've been tricked several times already

I recommend starting your own thread so you can thoroughly describe your issue.
a friend of mine has exact same problem.
TL;DR no idea what the f is wrong
first what to stress out, it occured only during some instances, and only instances.
we started off in Tera EU he lvled up his toon fine, but when started dungeoning BAH random freezes resulting in either a neccessity to crash game from task menager or complete hard reset...we tried few things here and there, with no success or whatsoever and when the suggestion came to reinstal game, we came here. again while leveling everything was smooth and fine, at lvl 65 - guardian legion open world fights ok, dungeons randomly crashed either game or whole PC.
we started digging. first maybe its something with IM dungeon server, as it has separate ip/port...forwarding, vpn, even tried proxy as its some sort of a mid-way connector (sorry for not being too much oriented, but differend sht came up to our heads) had no effect. one or twice the initial freeze let go after half a minute or so, so we had really thought something with connection. disabling any firewall also didnt help. but gave up on connection, since we had same results from monitoring/pinging server etc.
so time came to reinstalling of dx, framework, java etc so mb its something with libraries or graphic issues....no change. diagnosing pc under various benchmarks, putting pc under most stressful tests - all works fine.
while in game, getiing crashed, resource/hardware monitors didnt show any oddities
antimalware, found few threats, but minor and removing them had no impact on Tera problems.
reinstalled tera each time after few changes/tests
also found some old thread about that usb/controller leak of memory, but unplugging everything beside mouse/keyb - nothing
all drivers updated or reinstalled, registry cleaned
paging file set to like 10gb's
probably did everything possible, beside piece-by-piece of hardware replacement to find the cause yet havent find solution.
after 5-6weeks friend finally gave up on the game (tho not really sure how did he manage to stay so long)
odd things is it just happened in instances. at first not everyone too. he was "safe" to run lilith, kc/d, shattered. but rg, tr, ghilleglade was a no-go.
also finishing apex story....took him 9hrs? cuz each freeze was starting all over again....
doing vanguards on bams or guarian was all ok. for a month and then sht started to happen even in open areas so why he choose to give up since he couldnt do anything
also worth to state is fact that if he got freeze in instance resulting in having to crash game client, once he logged back another freeze meant he had to hard reset pc.
other thing is at first, crashes was resulting in this client pop up, that tera has been closed because of not enough memory, or fatal client exeption, but after a week or so, it stopped to show, game was just crashing, end of story.
no idea wheres the issue, its some minor problem, otherwise there would be storm of people giving same feedback
but maybe, someone who experienced it and found a solution gonna share it, cause digging through internetz whatever we found didnt work
GOT THE SOLUTION!
I tried out so many things before actually trying out things with my own brain...
first of all I've got i5 3.3GHz with Win7 64bit
and a old NVIDEA GeForce GTX 660 Ti
suggestions to set the shadows and light enrichment down BROUGHT ME THE SOLUTION!
open your temperature monitoring programm like Corsair Link or msi Afterburner
after playing around with the graphics.. I found out that if my light enrichment is on 0.. my temperature will go max to 52-55 degrees
if I put back on 1 it rushes up very very quickly... before it can even reach more then 70 I set it on "1" again and instinctly it drops!
So before giving up just check all your settings I am sure there are some options messing around with your graphicscard...
My graphicscard is old now thats why I recognixze more and more little thigns messign up my games... for example motion blur is nearly messign up every game for me now
I hope this helps everyone with the problem!
Tera should recognize graphiccards and give them the right setting.. gues they just never adjusted the option. there are threats with this problem from 2012 up to this date....
