    wait like... actual fishing?

They are fishing, for your money
  • Honestly, having side-systems like this in an MMO isn't a bad idea (although I'm not sure it would have been my first choice as a priority), and fishing is definitely an RPG staple. The real question is whether they'll come up with some way of making it relevant and worth doing. The history on the treatment of crafting and gathering in this game is... spotty at best. But if the development of this new feature means that they're going to start treating these side-systems more seriously... we'll see.

If implemented correctly, I am definitely interested.

Fishing can be a thing.. But I doubt it'd make much of a difference.

Most MMOs that I've played have had fishing in them (minus Guild Wars 2, Echo of Soul and Ragnarok Online 2 from the top of my head) and for the most part they were good for having people either semi-afk or fully afk and getting tons of useless items they can sell for a tiny profit. I think fishing would be nice if it was implemented, as I tend to sometimes find stuff I COULD do, but don't want to, so I instead end up just quitting the game and doing something else. Giving the option of fishing could have the potential to keep me on for a bit more. Though it really depends on implementation.

I would despise a fishing system that would:
    1. Be an EMP cash grab, for example, having to buy "premium bait" to catch "premium fish" which would give you items you can get on your own, in larger quantities.
    2. Bait overpriced/ Fish caught are worthless. Aka. there is no reason to fish apart from a afk to semi-afk fishing system
    3. Be a gathering node with a new 'crafting profession'
    4. Fishing spots are in out of reach and/or not showing on the map

But would appreciate it more if:
    1. There was actual profit to gain from fishing, either by selling the fishes for a reasonable gold reward
    2. You can 'open' the fishes like lootboxes to get dungeon materials or talents
    3. Areas where you can fish are easy to reach, either by teleport (VGs) or in a capital city like Velika (Outside the city? Or an area we havent found out yet inside the city)

All this is considering that this fishing system is mostly for afking or semi-afking, as most MMOs that have fishing have done. It's relatively safe, and could increase concurrent server population generally. But most MMOs have done it so it would be far from unique and can also end up being another useless game feature that adds little substance to the game. I can always be wrong however and we can all be happy.
  • Yay Fishing! I hope its real!

If Warframe, a game that was so underrated and deemed to fail, is now successful and have a fishing system that rewards you, then i dont see why TERA cannot have a similar one. I just hope is not like @Berogi said, pls do not give em more ideas. :(

If anything Bluehole has already decided what will happen, EME can't do much to change BHS' decision once it's made in Korea. At least that's the case from what I know anyway. Not a big change like cash grab I wouldn't think.
  • knowing BHS, expect it to suck

A lot of my friends have been playing on kTERA lately to test awakening skills on the new classes. They've all shown that rewards for just logging into the game are often much better than ours (they get tokens exchangeable for elite vouchers, as well as raw talents, while we get valkyon potions, for example) and the game itself generally has events that the players can enjoy and use to get things that they actually want, including talents. In other words, for some reason or another, BHS doesn't mind doling out OP events and rewards for their Korean players, but seems to enjoy putting a chokehold on the North American players. In other words, expect their fish to be really big and contain talents and noct and goldfinger tokens and stuff, while ours give nostrums and cruxes or something equally terrible.

Don't get me wrong either. I think this game needs more "fluff" content. But let's be real m8. Knowing BHS, they probably haven't even told their other branches about this yet.

Is mostly from EME since Spacecats left. With Spacecats, we had lots of events that constantly poured materials and stuff we all need for enchanting and stuff, he didnt mind giving all of that away. However, as our community is, there were people who constantly complained abou it because of the so called economy of the game. While its true that those events were op on rewards, they were also fun, and somehow ruined economy, but i noticed it was only ruined for those who hoarded, and waited too long, and then when they realized their stashes were gonna worth 50% less of what they thought, they came to complain and demand a shutdown of the event.

Apparently EME is catering to that minority now, when the vast majority of us just wanna have op events with op rewards that will for sure increase participation, and also the level of fun, which unfortunately we wont see because EME is giving me the feeling that they are too scared of the outcome of an event or the reply of this minority. EME has shown us in the past they have total control of what items are distributed in an event held in the NA region without the consent of BHS, so they could add, reduce, etc to the current event. How long does it take gathering feedback to them, i dont know, but they clearly can alter the rewards of the event to make it more enjoyable, and are not doing it for some god knows what reason.
  • What do the other dates say?

Honestly, some people here rally against good proposed changes like it's their grandmother's neck on a chopping block. Someone once proposed just resetting skill cooldowns after a boss wipe or when a boss dies, so that players don't have to stand around waiting before each boss for cooldowns, and even *that* had the same idiotic subset of posters coming out to argue about why it "wasn't needed." It's so bothersome that these people exist and continue to provide [filtered] feedback every single day, but at least the head developers at bluehole don't give a [filtered] and wouldn't listen to us regardless.
