J-TERA is practically those who are keeping Tera alive ($$$) so their freedom to do experiments is logical.
This is basically the important point. As a time-limited thing, it makes sense since they don't have to worry about porting back anything. Just let it be "as is" for a limited time, and then patch it to the latest version and all the updates (including cash shop, etc. etc.) come back. Even if they don't have a cash shop at all on that server for these two months, that's fine. Then after the event's over, it's back to normal again.
It's a sort of clever way to let people experience the old game again (whether you missed it or just feel nostalgic), but it's not really quite the same as what people are wanting in this thread: a permanent, maintained classic server. (If they did this same event approach here, I'm guessing it'd only cause people to keep asking for this permanent version even more.)
For most people it is just nostalgia and they'll quickly grow tired of it after realizing that just having a classic server around won't recreate the memories they miss.
However even just opening a temporary event classic server would cost a lot of resources that EmE can't spare, and it wouldn't change anything anyways since 4 months after it ends the topic of opening a classic server will arise again even if the hype from the first one died quickly. Nostalgia is very powerful and I've experienced this exact same scenario with another game which is why I question any requests for old-school variations of games since generally most people will go for the version with newer features and more QoL changes.
All of those are huge pluses, the sad thing is if it comes with minuses like what I used to call "15 tiers of hate" enchant system.
Oh, and keep the new Elin hairstyles, I love the braids and deep black color.
Tho as you mentioned Lv 30+ CS and Kumasylum, I would definitely play on that server again. I used to love those two so much it was basically the 2nd thing that made me so addicted to the game 1st being obviously Elins
I would play it pure for the nostalgia bliss
I think is hard to pull this on NA region because of the amount of people on-line at a time. If more people stop playing for that long on the normal servers then new players will see servers even more emtier and lack of guidance in the game from veteran players.
That could bring more harm than good, I remember wonderholme server gutted the server population greatly for many days on launch until people got bored and came back to their original servers.
its just wishful thinking. it will never happen. I would love to see it happen and then if they update any of it, they could include the new skills like we have now and flying mounts from the store.
just imagine the original island of dawn as the starting area again, being able to go to cs as level 30 again, having campfires again.
It is actually happening on JTera, but no it most likely won't happen here due to the resource costs. Also pick and choosing aspects is exactly the reason why Classic servers only run on nostalgia which quickly fades since it lacks features that were later introduced that make the game a bit "better". Picking and choosing features is also not a path that can be taken for Tera at all since the original development team from BHS is gone, BHS wouldn't put forth any resources for it (since it seems they barely put any effort into future content in the first place) and EmE has no development team themselves.
Tbh I don't know why BHS never kept campfires around as cosmetics .
When I started to play Tera back in 2012 it was something completely different. The game was interesting and immersive. It was hard to get a grip on things it because everything was a bit like "explore it and learn it yourself" which in my opinion is really good for an mmo, unlike now.. where evything is handed to you and explained in the interface.
The journey to lvl 60 was a really long and memorable experience, you had to travel the world, and do most quest to get to lvl 60, visit all zones also...unlike now. The story was awesome, and how the quest system was laid out was really cool , with the red quests being the story, and the yellow ones the regular quests. Places like Lumbertown when I had my first PVP encounter and those little "portal less instances" like the witch castle and the cathedral in the desert. You don't even get to visit these places anymore because they are removed or the quests are removed from there. So sad.
The interface was alot better back then also, now it's just smudged out with stuff all over, it was way cleaner.
I would love to do ACHM and MCHM again, even Kelsiak 20 - those were good times.
I know there are loads of people feeling the same way, or atleast those who started to play the game before the lvl 65 "expansion" when the game turned to something really horrible in my opinion. With all those pointless zones and green quests. Like the first zones, it's so linear...
And when they redesigned Island of dawn.. I don't even know where to start. The old Island of dawn was a really good way to see what the game offers, now they can't even place the collectable poo or whetever it is in the begining without it hanging in the air and looking just terrible.. I mean wth..
I would really love to the a classic server, the only things I think we should keep as it is, is the new character selection screen, it's just so awesome, and also the remodelling system back then was bad, I would like to keep the "armor template exchange for ticket shop" but maybe split the armor into leggs, chest and hands, so you can mix a little.
Classic Tera stands for what Tera really is unlike the BS it is right now. It's not even worth playing in this state.
