why do some people not want ch to merge
what's the point of role playing if you're doing it by yourself

Well, I can tell you that my reasons extend beyond RP (or alleged lack thereof). So that there's no confusion in case anyone else is reading this, population density is on a downward spiral because player retention is declining. Just about every new patch is more of the same sh*t and so people are taking their play time - and wallets - to other outlets.

Here's an example: updates and patches. Let's look at Warframe. It's been the talk of the town for about the past year or so, right? I remember when a new story patch(!) was about to come out and a sizable chunk of people online took their favorite frame, colored it red, then went to the nearest hub and just hung out waiting for the "red text" to start the countdown. People were ecstatic (it didn't hurt that the new story content didn't disappoint either, with its completion giving some new items and insight on the lore behind the game). Yes, that's a single and somewhat off-beat example, but people are generally excited for updates, patches, and hotfixes regardless, especially if a new frame/weapon/Prime drops or if there was something annoying players for a long time (melee specialists are looking forward to the new system, for example). Anything that goes wrong is usually handled within a few hours.

A new patch drops in TERA and people place bets on how many times maintenance gets extended. And/or they wonder what broke this time and the severity therein. And/or they wonder where the patch notes are or whether or not they're accurate. For a long time, patches took away more than added and some included "features" often led to negative shake-ups and shenanigans (PoP anyone?). Something that might go wrong remains wrong for what could be g*ddamn years regardless of how often it's mentioned (oh, hello scarf and cape glitch! how awful to see you again!).

So a merge will allow people to find parties faster due to more people in close vicinity. Cool? What about the lag? What about the graphical hiccups? What about class balance? What about loot balance? What about race balance? What about the fractured community? What about class homogenization? What about crafting? What about the enchant system? What about the cash shop? What the lack of customization for pad players? What about casual players who want to enjoy the story? What about hardcore players who want to push their abilities (and systems) to and beyond the brink of collapse? And so on, and so on, and so on.

I'll play according to my whims and wishes regardless. Having more people around isn't going to suddenly change my mind on me not doing something I already hated, nor will it solve any of the problems I listed above.

Checked some old CH lfg discords I used to frequent and sure enough everyone's moving off the server this week. I'd say "feels bad, man" but I don't even play anymore. Later!

Ok, at this point I kind of accept the fact that CH is not going to be merged with other servers for whatever the reasons EME has. I only hope that EME would do something to make CH lively again, especially I'd expect a lot of existing CH players would migrate to others servers during the free transfer period. Please host some CH focus events, such as role play or leveling events exclusively to attract more players. This merge will make the already low populated CH server even worse, and EME SHOULD put efforts to restore the population of CH. Don't leave CH to dust. Please.

Looks like this thread didn't help at all.

But I guess wait til tomorrow's stream for confirmation...

During the times I'm on after the transfers were opened, there seem to be new faces. Be it because of this thread or not, a decent number of people seem to be entering CH, even though a large number of CH people left. I am still not sure whether I like this or not, it seems like the veterans were substituted, even though in lesser numbers.

Edit: White discord! My eyes! I need darkness!

This could also mean offloading future transfer overloads, like 20+ characters going to CH to not get deleted.

Anyway, that is also somewhat of a plus to CH players yeah, whatever the reason it came to be.
  • But CH is beyond death, let a dead server alone will be terrible, i used to play in there now that free transfer comes i am going to let CH rest in peace, imagine massive transfers or delete in CH by the week before merge happen CH population will be almost zero.
  • Even if the server were to get merged later with new PvE server, we would be facing again name and guild name conflicts, provided that CH gets merged INTO the new PvE server and not a mutual merge under a new server name. I know of entire guilds moving out to either TR or MT, leaving behind only their least played/geared characters. Some active players might stay but a considerable portion of them will just jump ship.
Some of us tried to expose our concerns and discomfort with their decision but I think that even after 20 pages or so and over 300 posts, EME just looked away, our situation doesn't matter to them one bit, I don't think that the like Q&A will change anything either, it may even be taken down if they see too much "negativity" from CH players regarding their decision, since the stream is for those who are to be merged, not those who were cast aside.

Name conflicts happen with any merge it’s unavoidable

    Welp...

Just heard it on the Livestream, NO MERGE FOR CH.
basically (as a tip by @KitTeaCup ) CH can be used as a alt dumping server for the other servers accessive character to dump in...

I have no word anymore about this..

Eme making smart decisions everyday
  • In the end, even though I think it's probably inevitable that CH will need to be merged in eventually, merging 3 at once isn't tenable due to the temp bank limits. So even if we're back here in 3 months and it's painful in the short term... it's better than seeing people come back to have 1/3 of their bank/wardrobe vanished into the void. It sucks that there aren't other options.
  • I'm conflicted. I have my character on CH, but I don't know if I should transfer or not.

If you have only one character or not too many purchased slots, bank slots and wardrobes, I'd say to just transfer, EME already put the sentence on CH so transfer seems like the only way left.

EME said CH's fate will be determined next thursday, the 13th. SO its not a for sure decision yet. It depends on server population.
