Are there any plans/ideas to bring back old players?

I'm just curious if there are any intentions on implementing any kind of plans, ideas, or events to bring back older players.

With the server merge happening; it's a good time to try to maximize the amount of players that are actually playing the game.

I really enjoyed playing Tera, and will probably always keep up to date on information; but as someone who's played since before the steam launch... There honestly isn't a whole lot around for me to do anymore.

What, you're not a fan of the mindless dungeon grind for a meager 5% chance at that +1 enchantment?

I believe the only enticement they tried recently for bringing back players who hadn't played in a while was an email with a free costume. There was a thread going around (I'll edit this with the link when I can be bothered to go back and find it) where someone had asked why they had received an email with a code to a free costume while their girlfriend/wife/fiance who also played Tera didn't.

Other than that, there hasn't been any news about future events. EME's new thing is to announce stuff right before its about to happen or not announce it at all.
  • Ah, I see. There always used to be something to do.

I find the events have been kind of lackluster. There pretty much always used to be an event going on; and lately the events have just been multiplier events for vanguard or what have you. That's appreciated, but not enough to draw people back.

Most of the events recently have been along the lines of doing X specific dungeon in hopes of Y special loot drop, or scouring the open world for mobs in hope of getting more enchanting materials.
All the while fending off 3rd party users who can just teleport cycle through pre-determined spawn locations.
Or there have been leveling "events" where if you get a specific class to 65 you get some Lv. 65 gear with random (usually terrible) rolls and some enchanting materials that won't get you very far in the long run.

I'm not saying the game isn't fun anymore, but there definitely isn't a whole lot of creative effort going into drawing existing/older players back. Just the few big patches down the road like Awakening Pt. 2, Fishing, and "new" things like Elin Brawler. There's very little that's done by EME to actually create and promote original and unique events.
  • But when those players come back , may they are going to discover that their characters dissapearing xd.
Remember people have been creating characters between old servers for years, And maybe tons of characters from abandoned accounts are going to to die forever.

So may they dont like the surprise after merge. But names lovers are going to be happy lot of names will be avalaible soon.
Will be a play from scrath again. Or leave

Pretty sure the server merge is the enticement. From what I understand, a lot of people who haven't played in a while have been getting emails about the merge, since it's something people asked about for over a year. For many people, the ability to finally play on a lively server with a decent economy is enough to revitalize the game. Whether or not it's enough is of course up to the individual, but yeah.

I do think that events could be advertised better though. Apparently there have been Caiman events this week designed to give out talents, but it's nowhere on the front page of the website or on the launcher, and I had to keep hearing about it from people in discord when it was already over. As someone who hasn't been playing much (especially this week, with the server virtually empty before the merge), I would've logged in for that if I'd known it was happening.

How true is this. The last actual event I remember is back when attack on titan costumes got released back in late spring since then the game had ran dry and I think that’s contributed to people quitting to other games.

some of those old players I still talk to because they're my real friends that brought me here don't wanna come back because it's p2w AF and don't wanna grind endlessly to have decent gear to do endgame dungeon and to compete against other no lifers that can keep up with it.

They're all playing WoW or GW2 right now and if Tera has something better to offer then those games then you can't expect them to come back. Not with the current situation that Tera is in from BHS greedy decision making which will follow Wildstar demise.

Hmm, I never really considered Tera p2w at all, maybe slightly pay to progress. Sure there is a grind, but it's doable. Of all the games I've played, I've probably only dropped a few hundred dollars on Tera and mostly for Elite/cosmetics. Some other games I have spent way, way more. Then again, I am patient.

    .....

    Are you serious?

If I known that, I would have logged in.

EME what the hell are you doing with your communication...
  • I'm still not understanding the p2w complaint. Tera is not even remotely pay to win.

If I can make it to end game in a reasonable amount of time with how bad I am at this game with only 1-2 hours a day to play, anyone can.
  • I'll agree that there need to be better events. I like when they spawned the dreadspire bams (like meldita, shandra etc.) or the older past dungeon bams in open world and many people in raid go to fight them together. Still won't forget when they spawned kelsaik and even vergos. Also the rewards are usually pretty good most times. Ever since Spacecats left, haven't seen a really good event in the open world. The last great event we had was that Kyra event where you can find a blue box, one of the best events. But it's been meme ever since.

Also the golden/silver talents issue we all know is one of the big issues in game right now. If they implement a token feature, that would sure I think make it appealing for more comebacks and ofc for the current player base making it less grindy.
  • I mean if I can put it bluntly; I just want something to do.

Running the same dungeon night after night after night isn't fun. It would be nice to have something different to do to break up the dungeon grind.

I remember the good ol days when corsairs popped constantly, or you could do alliance stuff, or gather and do crafting things, or participate in whatever current event may be happening at the time (rootstock, or blue boxes, or mongos, or boss spawns, or what have you).

^ This. If someone is calling this a P2W game, they have NEVER, I repeat, NEVER played a P2W game in their life. Period. Are there SOME small benefits of spending money on this game? Sure. But game-breaking pay2win? No. LOL. Just... no. There could be an entire thread created to just discrediting anyone's argument that this is a P2W game by people just saying games that are REAL p2w games. Games that if you have 0 life you MIGHT be able to KIND OF smell the heels of p2winners, but not really. We very casually play this and are on par with people in our guild who have paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars into this... I even know a few thousand dollar players... they don't have any real step-up from f2players. Sorry to tell you guys.

Most p2w games now-a-days are on phones. But those are a given and don't count, we're only talking about real games on PC or console. Prime example of serious P2W gaps from F2Players: Scions of Fate.... WolfTeam, sh|t like that. THAT is p2w.
