What's "real-time optimization?"

I've re-read this numerous times and even tried to see its effects during gameplay... but I really didn't notice anything different? What does this exactly do, and what are the changes between sliders?

I checked some links, but they were either outdated or dead.

    As far as my experience and guesswork goes, the game reduces texture quality and some effects when the FPS drops too much (say bellow 30), like in Velika's Freedom Plaza or commonly in Highwatch

    To be honest I do not know this well enough. One thing that is an old enough technique that does real time optimization for 3D graphics is Tesselation, it reduces the geometry detail the further it goes from the camera. This could be another one of the options enabled by this "real time optimization". It's honestly my guess only.

    They both basically do the same thing, but to different textures, afaik realtime changes mostly skill effects and the "low memory" thing is characters/etc... the low memory one was also added MUCH later than realtime optimization - it's just a hack to stop tera from hitting it's garbage collection cap so quickly (it's 32 bit and limited to ~3.2 gigs of ram, the game crashes if it tries to use more than that)
