Does Archer get better in the higher levels? (New Player)

  • @ArchExorcist general rule of thumb in TERA is to leave monsters alone when another player is already fighting it, unless you're in a group with that person. And even then, in cases like the Island of Dawn, the game only gives kill credit credit to one of the players. DO NOT try to "help" other random players unless you have contacted them and agreed to fight together in a party; if you attack a monster they are already fighting, there is a chance that they will lose the credit for that kill, and they probably won't be very happy with you (this is considered to be KS, or "kill stealing"; very much BM). I made that mistake myself when I was new, trying to "help" other players kill monsters. Turns out all I was doing was stealing kill credit from them and they were, let's say "less than grateful" for my "help" as a result.

Another off topic question from a new player.
Is there such a thing as "tapping" in Tera? In other MMO's if you cause damage to a monster while someone else is fighting it.. it causes the player to lose xp. Some MMO's i've played don't take away xp for helping another player kill a monster.

A few cases. If you are not in a party with someone hitting a monster, you can kill steal, or in some cases, it's been reported that the mob gives exp to nobody. If in a party, even a one level difference means less exp for the character with lower level. I tested this back when Tera was pay to play so it may have changed.

I just wanted to make sure, I'll just mind my own business and leave other players alone unless I'm grouped. I've had quite a few people one hitting a monster and just leaving... I don't understand it.

Happens to me on IoD once in awhile. I suppose not everyone knows.
  • Honestly sometimes my potato of a computer doesn't render everything fast enough, so I will come up and attack a monster that I think is "free" only to suddenly realize that someone is already fighting it. In that case I quickly walk away because I want them to get credit for the kill (usually they'll still get credit if you only inflict a little bit of damage). Just an honest mistake on my part, because I am a ranged char and my computer doesn't always give me line of sight 30+ meters out (sorry guys, didn't mean to hit your BAM). Occasionally happens to me as well, and I don't sweat it as long as the other person moves on after seeing that I'm already fighting it.
  • Ohhhh what about these!?

A new passive skill has been added that increases the crit chance of all your skills by 15% against Monsters only. Learned at level 60.

I'm gonna roll an archer now, can't decide between castanic, human or high elf. I've heard elin or popo are better but I have enough of those races.

Edit: can anyone tell me what these buddy codes are? Thank You

Archer is easy, in a sense you actually dont have an actual rotation but rather a hierachy of skills to use. Even the number of main skills to use in PvE is low compared to probably sorcerer and slightly more or the same as Gunner. Don't Spacebar on Archer ever though, you get 0dps with combo key.

You will like Archer more once you get experienced in PvP. Invisible traps, an honestly easy-to-use Rain of Arrows if you get that engage, and when well positioned you wont ever be touched.

Cant quote on my phone, but the priest who is complaining has nearly nothing to complain about. If you are only PvEing you dont really need 3 skills: Arise, Guardian's Sanctuary and Divine Respite. And the fact that skills are so split up is largely is to prevent them from actually being completely immortal. Then again I am used to reaching for 15 skills and brooch without the need for relying on combokey (aside from retaliate and counter skills) and using a regular mouse so I am probably an outlier.

Of course, people can argue that newer classes are easier, and it is really to an extent too easy for beginners to make themselves feel better.

Just keep in mind the leveling proces won't change so much, the big damage boost will come for archers at lvl 60. About the other question, BuddyUp codes are part of some sort of mentoring system. Any character lvl 40 and up can generate a BuddyUp code, and the said code can only be redeemed on characters lvl 9 or lower in new accounts or in accounts that remained inactive for a month or longer (you can also start anew in another server and use a BuddyUp code even if you haven't been innactive) . A buddy-up code grants benefits for both the new character and the old one as the former levels up: http://tera.enmasse.com/game-guide/buddyup-system

I have 3 classes that I am currently playing - Warrior (Main) - Archer and Sorcerer.

Nice those are the classes I play too, with sorc being my main.

I like archer. I had to get it max level and read the guide on essential mana to figure out how to comfortably do damage though. It's sure a challenge to weave in charging up those skills and finishing up with final salvo all while being able to seamlessly iframe. I love it. Yeah it's a little underpowered, they gonna change that in less then a month though, and i still get [filtered] done
  • I love my archer and all, but I started getting a little frustrated with having to share Velik's Mark with other archers. I've only played one month and maybe I just haven't learned to live with it yet, but does the Aces Wild crit buff balance this out?

Nothing has been said about Velik mark share yet(as far as I know), but any crit chance coming our way for our old classes is good for me. Sure, I'd love it if they fixed velik mark and warrior edge sharing. In an ideal world perhaps.
