Or -- sadly, more likely -- they worked so well they decided to strike while the iron was hot.

I wish people didn't buy this and so it didn't encourage them, but from what I saw last time... my hope was in vain.

Agreed - but this is why companies like EA are willing to challenge entire governments in order to keep these practices going. People just cannot help themselves from that endorphin rush of opening a loot box, and EME wants every penny they can get their hands on as fast as they can get it. You know what they say, "A fool and his money are easily parted."

Yeah. Well, most likely they'd issue the legal challenge anyway just because they don't want the precedent of being not allowed to do whatever they want, but I know what you mean.

The only thing with a game like this vs. some EA juggernaut is that a game like this probably needs "fools," sadly. When it's the big EA games where you already buy the game upfront at full-price (or more for the premium editions) and then they try to make you keep paying indefinitely, it feels like nothing but "maximizing shareholder value." But here... someone's got to pay at some point. I truly wish we could have a game that was funded 100% by reasonably-priced direct-buy cosmetics and simple account services, but just not sure if it's possible for a niche game like TERA. As they try to take more lootbox items out of the box and put them up for direct sale, people's eyes bug out with sticker shock, but technically speaking if you do the math on the RNG boxes it's objectively a better deal. So it shows just how much money they were making on the RNG boxes before. Seeing those big numbers upfront give a lot of people chills unless they are objective enough to compare it to the alternative -- but eliminate the alternative entirely...

Still doesn't make me happy about any of it though.
  • Why are so many people concerned with how other people spend THEIR OWN money?

Selling these lust crates made it possible for me to buy an Azure and Diamond Dragon mount.

Got some good news for you. Now you can just buy them directly without all the hassle. Enjoy!

The concern is because giving them a positive reaction to a P2W move encourages them to nerf out the game's rewarding system in favor of real money paid stuff. If they can get away with milking you, they will. If it sells, they can force it, and still get away with it with people buying it, why not do it?

Adding to it the RNG lootboxes as well: the more we pay for this sort of casino crap, the more incentive we give them to earn less without casino crap mechanics, for reasons stated above.

I for one don't want to have to resort to spending real life cash on anything non-cute. In my view, gearing and anything related to increasing stats in-game should always be obtained by "git gud" mode, not the swipe of a card. But if they can make money forcing you to pay for it, they will. They'll only NOT charge you for gear and such if they cannot, if the population declines too much or it simply doesn't sell. It's all a matter of how the community reacts to it, so sadly how one spends his money on this game, IS of our concern even tho in an ideal situation it shouldn't matter.

Because it tells EME that desperate ppl can't handle their finances will work on whoever is left in this game. If it becomes successful no matter how much complaint is shown, they will continue to do it on worst case scenarios. So if this horrible practice ends up working, I would not be surprised if they start selling Stormcry gear set in cash shop.

Because this is by far one of the most egregious pay-to-win things EME has ever done, and when people like you swipe your cards and eat this ^#%$% up, every transaction tells EME that this practice is okay, and that removing/nerfing our options to get these materials in-game, and then pushing them through the real-money store was not only profitable, but accepted by the community.

Every time you swipe your card, you encourage this game's decline little by little - and I'm sure you're doing some Olympian-level mental gymnastics to convince yourself that it's not a problem, and how i'm just some salty pleb, but no matter what you think/say, the fact remains - encouraging pay-to-win practices like this has proven time and time again to be detrimental to a game's overall health and will eventually lead to its end.

Regardless, as long as we get some decent events here and there getting some improvements slowly but steadily then i guess that i can live with it.

p.s. i have seen far worse publishers that simply milked the game until exaustion then moved on and on.. so we are somehow lucky here

I know that what I chose to do with my own money is my business. I sold over 100 lust crates at 22k gold each. People snipe them up like no tomorrow.

Due to real life career and hobbies, I do not have hours upon hours to sit infront a computer playing Tera. I have been playing Tera since 2013 though. If they make SC gear boxes, I will buy them and sell them for more gold :)

Then I hope for the sake of the game at large that your stance on the matter is not a popular one...

I'm confused here. If you are already spending real money, then why do you need in-game gold for? People buy the crates from the broker because they don't want to spend real money. If you are really desperate for virtual currency, you should have just stocked up on the gem crates and just sell the gems to npc. You'll be very wealthy (in-game =) ) possible even more wealthy than Kamizuma.

I do farm Ghili 6 times a day. I then sell those items for a steady income. However, a Diamond Dragon 2.0 is pricey as is a SC+9 Weapon and would require hours upon hours of farming.. I will never use RNG lootboxes to get an item because it is a slot machine. I would rather buy the item outright. However it will cost more initially, but I am guaranteed the item that I want.,

    no rng.

Let someone else with far less impulse control do the work for you (crit2.0 dragon), then capitalize on a floundering market to get the funds you need to make the purchase from the broker (talent crates).

Can't exactly disagree with that, if I'm being honest. The timing of everything was still dildoes though.

Better stock up on this while it's available.

I hear EME will have the HO gear box in the cash shop too. No RNG required.
